Thanks, I'll probably keep it, just disappointed that after waiting for it to set it came out like that, and due to such a silly mistake.

Thankfully it's for a navy, white and pink accessory, so maybe I can use the blue to my advantage, try to paint it and make it mottled along the lines of pic related

I'm about to work with worbla for the first time for this - this is the first part of Justicar Syndra's headpiece that I've cut out into foam for a base model.

I was wondering if you guys think this looks okay enough to go ahead and start putting worbla over? I know having a good base is important for the worbla to look good, and I'm a bit nervous about committing to it since I'm really new to the material.

>> No.8320363

>>8319918
If you haven't already got over Wirru's tutorial and take your time. If you haven't used worbla before take a little bit to heat up and play with some scraps and get used to it since it's a weeeeiiiird material. Also I'm a little worried your details are too shallow and they might not show through that well even with the scissors and poke method. Personally I think your base looks great as it is and you could seal and paint it as is.

In person I think the sanding I did too looks decent, but there were definitely places that i didnt give attention to.The middle part of the hilt below the blade is going to get covered,so thats why I didn't give much attention to that part.

>> No.8321140

>>8321069
Well, yeah, the middle part is fine. But the sides are too lumpy and I strongly recommend sanding them down and filling the holes with putty. A smooth surface is what distinguishes cheap amateur props from good ones.

>>8320944
To be fair I haven't used worbla much, I usually do props, not costumes or armor.

That said, you should never use hot glue for anything. It's a very poor cement. I recommend, depending on how strong the bond needs to be and how much time you have, either simple wood glue or a two part epoxy. Either way, sand both contact surfaces down with 100 grit sandpaper before gluing, and I strongly suggest using some rivets too, as worbla tends to be bendy, while sintra is rather stiff.

This a thousand times. Don't get me wrong hot glue can be useful in some instances, but if you need something strong and fast, dap weldwoood contact cement, I've been using it and its the fastest strongest glue I've ever used, and completely flexible without breaking bonds.

Nice! It looks super clean. Do know that worbla is pretty fragile/bendy as 1 layer though, so you may want to back the mask with craft foam or something. It'll also get distorted in super hot weather/in a hot car.

Just think logically about it anon, what would your props be dirtied by, in what spots, and how would they look in real life? there isn't a one size fits all tutorial for it, despite what Kamui might have you believe. If it's plain ol dirt, then yes you'll want to use some dark brown. If it's blood or rust you'll be working with some more reddish hues, or even some slight greens if you're going for an oxidised copper type look. See what I'm getting at?

You're off to a good start but, in the reference he isn't wearing just a simple vest. It has a collar to it, and silver buttons. You should add a collar and get totally new buttons. Weather your belts some, find a darker more velvety red fabric for the sash, long enough to wrap around maybe twice.

You're also not going to want that rectangular belt buckle, it's nothing like the one in the reference image.

Taking things you already own and making a cosplay is easy, but if you want accuracy you're going to have to be prepared to alter just about everything.

Get a lace front wig, I guess a straight one will make it easier.
What you need to do is braid small sections of hair going in the direction you need, do it tightly. Then use hot air to make the wig fibers adapt to the new shape, let it cool and remove the braids, you should get yourself something similar to a rhapsody wig texture

cgl could you offer me some advice?
Basically I'm a shit tier sewer and my boyfriends grandma has been helping me make my cosplay which was really nice of her. I really respect that she's helped me and everything, but basically whats happened is this:

>Be me
>Making world is mine Miku dress (inb4 basic bitch cosplay, I mentioned above I'm shit tier sewer and don't do it to be popular it's literally just for a con and I really like the outfit)
>Buys pattern that will suit
>Pattern is for a top so will need to elongate skirt part
>Take the pattern to his grandma
>Bfs grandma cuts the dress pattern whilst i'm not there and the skirt part which needed to be elongated
>Skirt pattern is too thin, not enough poof, not even enough room for a petti
>Feel like absolute bitch r/n for wanting to take it back to her to see if we can make the skirt part more poofy

What can I do to amend the skirt issue? The top part looks fine and all I need to do is sew the black crosses on by hand.
I still have lots of fabric left too so that isn't an issue

Seam rip the skirt off or if the skirt and top are one piece, cut the skirt off and make it two pieces. I recommend doing a circle skirt for the amount of poof you want, they're very easy to make and attach if you do a bit of searching around. I really wouldn't recommend this, but I used card stock and covered it with a few layers of paper mache for stability, then put paper clay over it like I did here >>8309512 and sanded it down. It's finished off with layers of gesso and more sanding. In the picture they just happen to fit on my legs but theyre going to have velcro attached to the insides, which will attach to the tights I'll be wearing.

They're pretty sturdy but if you're not careful with the sanding, the paper clay texture will show through when you paint them. They also have a tendency to warp while being paper mached. Definitely find an alternative if you can.

Did some more things. Not entirely sure about the straps, though. Maybe I'll remove those. They're on the original, but the base isn't perfect. I can't even fit those straps on next to the mouth piece since there's no room.

And I am stumped again. I need to place the tube on the other side as well, but the filter port's on the way. Maybe I can work around it, but it wouldn't look that good. I'm not gonna rip it off either, because gaping hole on the side wouldn't look that good. Any tips, anyone?

The staff photographs nicely. I'm personally not a fan of the fabric you used for the cloak but it all looks neatly constructed. Great job!

Loving the staff and the texture of the cloak gives it a real dark magic feel

Daaaamn looks great. I disagree with other guy though. The fabric is perfect for wizardry

Thanks for the feedback everyone! There's a guy who wants to do a photoshoot so I would like to fix anything if needed. The white thing on the belt is from the costume contest # sticker and the pouch was a personal addition to keep my car keys, money and cell at the con. I also had a bunch of those chocolate gold coins and I would hand them out to kids and photographers haha.

Almost done, I need to fix a few things and finish painting the tights .

I'm a bit unhappy with the skirt, I might end up redoing it, it doesn't resemble much the character's

Painting went better than expected but it looks quite lumpy, I'll need to do more sanding on the next ones.

Yeah this is me! Awkward open mouth - really excited for my shoot photos to come back. >>8351490
And the behind is fine I think, but the spike base has less crystals so I could get out.

I feel your pain, I'm this close to rip my skin appart making my gloves. I should've customized ones instead of starting from scratch, I learned my lesson.

What do your gloves look like, anon ? I'm curious. I finished mine today, but I had no idea this part of the costume would turn out to be so annoying... at least it feels like I'm learning new things.

The top is solid wood, which is where probably 75% of the weight is. The rest is wood too, but lighter woods (poplar and redwood) than the top (pine plywood and MDF, if I recall correctly).

once the con is over, or now if you've got the time, and if you plan on doing this cosplay again you should look into making a mold of the staff in a few parts and then casting in a lighter material.
