Finished my Sith Acolyte pepa assembly. Looks alot better now that I adjusted the size and learned where each piece folds specifically

And any smaller and it would be too small again. I have a 24" circumference head, and to ensure it would fit after all the work is done, I had to increase the size by an inch. Previous one was 25" circumference and was too small.

>Doesn't understand that the pepakura process is just another form of sculpting
Wow people are stupid, is this what happens when we take away funding from art in school?

Pepakura is a tool. Same as a hammer, screwdriver, or yourself.
Some people make their own 3d models for pepakura which takes some skill and knowledge, saying there's no skill to making something from pep is kinda ignorant of the work that goes in after. You have to know how to fiberglass well, shape bondo as you're applying it, sanding and carving detail for hours, spot putty and wet sanding for even longer, painting in multiple layers for finer details...The list of shit that needs to be done goes on.
There's more that goes into it than just paper folding, Op just finished step one on his first helmet. Pretty damn sure nobody who does pep the first time gets it perfect. You guys are acting as if that's already the end result, can you not tell the difference from work in progress to finished result?

Ive noticed there's two types of people when It comes to pepakura on the internet:
The first being someone who learns and understands the process and can do it with ease, they can make some pretty crazy shit starting with just some paper, with pep or not.
The second is someone who's too fucking stupid to glue tabs, do the work that comes after making a paper model, then because they're upset they get on the new people to pep and discourage it.
Its classic "If I can't do it, no one will, and I'll cry if they try" mentality

Shit /r9k/ if we knew you were visiting today we would have brought out our Coat hangers for your trench coats and trilbys.

Im fat too dude.Get used to this in pep threads, this is why we said post in progress threads. Plus /cgl/ is no different than that extra stupid kid in the class that points out the obvious "SKY BLUE, GRASS GREEN, YOU FAT, IS FUNNY."

Where are you dividing the helmet? Between the front and back halves? It took me a while to find pictures of the back, but it looks like a better place might be... uh, hard to describe, so I'll just show this picture from someone else who made one by hand, and looks to have put a seam in a good place. Along existing molded seams is a good place, as long as it's not a shallow fold that's really light and/or full of detail like areas around the nose might be if you had considered for example the mouth area and possibly the nose area.

Plan to divide it along the red line, with the latches placed along the green line.

Wish I could find a pepakura file that looked closer to you, or knew how to make a helmet more professionally without using pepakura, but I'm a shitter when it comes to more complex masks/helmets.

Is there a reason the seam won't be closer to a fold like at the base of the ridge of the front half? It would be easier to hide it if it conforms to existing folds. If you still need the latch to have plenty of clearance on either side where you're currently going to have it, you could still bend the seam under the horizontal seam just above it.

Also with more work you could probably get one that looks smaller but still fits, since there's a huge ledge in between, it looks like the front half is much larger than the back half. If you shrunk the front part it would probably still fit. Do you still have the smaller version you made earlier? Maybe you could stick the front of that onto the back of this one, though the seam might not line up as well.

>>8265476
Pepakura's perfect if you have 3D models straight from the source that are then smoothed out by hand. I hate seeing hand-made stuff that looks off because it's done poorly by eye, or has horrible texture on it because it's carved out of foam blocks or some other light-weight material that just looks terrible and inappropriate.

>> No.8268828

>>8267699
Agreed, but I have also seen some really terrible paperkura helmets. 3d printing seems way better if you have a big scale 3d printer. But I have seen dead space masks made from cardboards/foam and they look pretty good too.

>> No.8268831

Small recommendation here, once you done with your helmet try to install small fans inside to keep you cool.
