Cute, but tooooooo much clutter. Living on my own (and moving back with the rents) made me realize that I don't need so many things in my life.

I'm starting to blame the books - since I got rid of/moved most of the ones in my room, it's noticeably less dusty.

She's been posting in LSE selling her worse-quality Bodyline pieces. It's kind of depressing how people jump all over fug Bodyline pieces (as in, not that all Bodyline pieces are good, but that she doesn't seem to be selling the nicer ones) from her straight away. The one I saw was that one that isn't Fruits Parlor but has a similar ugly stripe thing going on (l136?), in the colourway that's fucking impossible to coord with modern lolita because instead of pastel pink and blue it's like, intense dark-ish pink and blue. Just do what you want.
I'm glad nobody comes into my room so I can decorate it with posters and figures of half-naked lolis, but I also make sure to make it look nice with good furniture and not be messy and stuff. People like to act all high and mighty when it comes to weebsht but tbh, if that's what you wanna do, feel free to do so. It's your own living space.

Maybe make your own curtains? They're pretty simple to make if you can sew at all, or even if you have a friend who sews. Then you can test the quality of the materials before buying.

Just kicked my husband out of the house and getting started on divorce proceedings.
It fucking sucks, gulls.
Anyhow, I need to start fresh.

I'd like to re-do my house in kind of a mori/shabby chic style, going for more of a forest cottage look.
I like white, but I really can't/don't want to do mostly white in my home, since I have a small kiddo, a dog, and a puke-y cat.
It's my dream to have some cream/off-white carpets, though.

Pic related is my shitty inspo collage.

Also contributing some lolita-inspired decor.
Not all housing stuff, per-say, but it's pretty cool and I think fits with the theme.
Hope that's okay?

Room-related feel, posting here because r9k have shitted up the feels thread.

>tfw half of me wants my things to be historical, cute and generally lolita-appropriate
>the other half is utilitarian as fuck
>guy actually commented to me in class today that he was surprised that I ate my bento lunch out of plain clear plastic stackable Tupperware containers and didn't bother making the food cute shapes when my clothes are so frilly
>looked around my room and realised this contradiction is everywhere
>don't like stuff that's hard to wash, dust or take care of so have a ton of plain stuff
>storage is mostly open (like, shelves not drawers) or just as utilitarian so all my modern shit is exposed and clashes with the rest of the decor

Looking for advice on how to hide it without resorting to dust traps like draping cloths everywhere, since I tried that when I had a dorm room and it was a pain in the ass to keep clean.

I'm starting with replacing all the plastic storage boxes under my bed with Cath Kidston-style floral ones. It's hard to find ones that are big enough though - most seem to be the size of a large shoebox and are made of cardboard, which is no good for keeping toiletries or kitchen utensils/supplies in (I keep them in my room not the bathroom or kitchen because otherwise my housemates use them and some of it is expensive to). Thinking of covering some of the old Bodyline shoeboxes I use for lolita stuff in wrapping paper or something so I don't have to spend a lot of money on new boxes.

I wonder if maybe I should get a separate jewelery box or tree? I don't have much jewelery though, so I think the current system of storing it in smaller boxes inside the boxes holding similar accessories works. Also wondering about getting a hat stand, because a lot of my ridiculous amount of boxes is attempts to store proper hats without squishing them, but I don't know where to find a cute one. I should get hooks for parasols and coats too, but they're easy to buy.

tl;dr how do I hide the ugly shit in my room for cheap without draping cloths everywhere (long term I'd like to buy cabinet furniture and, y'know, be able to keep my kitchen stuff in the kitchen but that's not possible for uni).

Also holy shit do I have a lot of boxes. Just counted and for lolita alone I have nine different Bodyline shoeboxes at the moment for lolita alone (hair accessories, waist ties + bag straps, detachable bows + brooches + necklaces, wristcuffs + bracelets + rings, lolita tights, lolita socks, woolly hats + berets, other winter gear, non-curly wigs), plus five hatboxes, plus large storage boxes for cutlery/crockery, utensils/pans, some food and bathroom stuff. I also have to find space for twelve lolita bags, ten pairs of lolita shoes, and seven pairs of boots. I guess I'm at least lucky that my regular wardrobe fits in the wardrobe provided and there's space for a clothing rail for lolita.

Bottom middle is nice. You could use the green with brown as the main 'highlight' of the room, and have the walls and carpet neutral. Depending on how bright the room is, you could use the grey bottom right pic, but be wary about decorating tiny, dark rooms with dark colours because they'll look like a torture dungeon.

Whatever you end up going with, the most important part of mori is to use natural textures and shapes. Stay away from glass and metal, and use simplistic furniture where you can - The bedframe in the middle top picture completely dwarfs the room and is a bit ostentatious, whereas the furniture in the middle right picture is cosy and brings the room together.

Sure. Food-themed cushions and fabric prints are pretty popular, and you can use bright, fruity colours to tie the room together. The foody wallpaper might be harder to come across, but you could consider stencilling onto plain wallpaper if you're completely dedicated to the theme.

Consider using plain neutral wallpaper and adding food-themed wall art. You can buy it very cheaply, or even have a go at painting it yourself!

She creeps me out, her room is embarrassing for someone of her age. She is also slowly looking older and might want to start toning it down and go for more mature sweet styles.

I wonder if she is a ageplayer or just someone who has issues and can't accept getting older.

I wonder if she does it because it helps her cope illnesses (she has Myalgic Encephalomylitis and Joint Hypermobility Syndrome, they give her pain joint pain and chronic exhaustion).Maybe having all the that extreme decor makes her feel better since she is limited in going out and doing things that normal people can do. I also think that's why she acts so bubbly and hyper, so she won't sink into despair over her illnesses. She mentioned on her tumblr that she was depressed about it when she was first diagnosed with it.

i think you might be right. i dont have ME or JHS (i have EDS and a plethora of unrelated mental health issues) but i still don't leave the house more than 2 times a week, and honestly, surrounding myself in what i love helps keep me sane.

its why i struggle to agree when anons point out how lacklustre her hair is, or how bad her eye bags are that day, because that can happen with these types of illnesses. and other people with chronic illnesses have lots of things matching their decor like pillows and blankets and stuffed toys. it's comforting.

i dont want to sound pretentious but i think its hard to understand chronic illness if you havent dealt with it firsthand or had a close relative who is affected.

I have JHS.

I understand where you are coming from about chronic illness. Its hard to get it until you "get" it. My classmates wonder why I'm registered as a disabled student who can't sit handwritten exams when I am able to hold a pen and sign my name on an attendance sheet without any problems. Until you sit through the chronic pain following an exam with JHS you can't even imagine it. I'll not even start on all the other minor tasks which can be a total pain.

Personally, I think Peachie is a bit mad with all those toys and things lying around simply because they must catch so much dust and cleaning with JHS is such a pain. I barely manage to hoover and mop the house every 2-3 days so I couldn't cope with all that dusting too. I think she should get a glass cabinet to keep her trinkets in and to keep them dust free, but thats just me being a little pedantic. Honestly, I see where you are both (anon and Peachie) coming from. I had a dark room during the worst parts of my illness until I managed to get a little bit of control over the pain, once I had the money to buy new furniture my parents helped me paint and redecorate and a bright airy-princess room lifts my mood.
