Cat/Animal Ears on Lolita Coordinate.

What works and what doesn't? What is considered acceptable in a theme and what makes it ita?

Opinions please!

Sparingly & rarely.

Most of the people who put cat ears on are throwing whatever style/color they happen to have ontop of an outfit that has nothing to do with it. It's kinda like guys who put a fedora on top of whatever, "I put this accessory on and it made me cuter/classier."

Misako gets away with it because it matches the dress, it's like the only animal piece, and I can't think of another time she's done it.

Ears like what Misako is wearing, or what baby puts out aren't full fur(if fur at all) and usually have some cute frills and lace to them rather than those 'kawaiinekochandesu' ones that weebs wear at cons. They also should match the theme of the coord and not just be random.

i know this is just the start of the thread, but i'm really glad to see this change in opinion. i've felt that a few years ago we'd have had this knee-jerk reaction to anything 'weeby' and it's good to see some of us are mature enough to see that this isn't always the case.

I'm definitely of the opinion that if the dress is animal-themed (like cats or bunnies) then ears as part of the headdress should be acceptable. But they should also be understated, and not meant to look like actual animal ears--i.e. made of lace or built in to an actual headbow/headdress.

Wearing those molded resin ones or fuzzy ones made to look like a costume never really work to me. I've seen some cute ones made of lace or those metal ones with pearls/gems, and those would probably work as long as they were part of the outfit's theme.

Basically, as long as it's understated and not costume-y, I don't have a problem with it.

Misako also wore cat ears with My sweet mate Kumya’s Trick or Treat print at a tea party in Canada. She looked really cute.

All though that is a Halloweeny print, I think people can make it work.

No judgements here as long as others have said, they don't look like con cat/rabbit/whatever ears. They have to be lolita as well.

If anything to be honest, I find veils weirder in lolita than nice looking cat ears. I like the veil look with some co-ords but they seem to be thrown all over the place?

I don't think race is an issue as long as the outfit is put together properly; anyone can do it as long as the wearer looks well groomed obviously, and there is a (ONE) set theme for the entire coord that animal ears can work with.

Or else you'd get like.. Time travelling catbunnydog lolita with a chainsaw and that doesn't work, regardless of what race you are.

I find all the 'animal ears automatically = ita' palaver really perplexing because if the people that bang on about it stopped to take a breath and look at all the stuff brands have put out over the years, they would realise that animal ears have always featured in lolita, ok not a major part, but they've always been there and at one point (2004-2007 ish I think) they were really popular.

Like with most things, if you pay attention to the balance and overall quality of your coord, you can make them work just fine.

The reason people say ears are unacceptable is because of weebs and noobs coming in and putting them in coords badly. I worry that if we soften our stance, this will become acceptable.
