i've been searchign craigslist but my town generally doesn't have much in the way of good craigslist shit.
i would say go to thrift stores, make a craigslist post in the wanted section, check the free section daily, and give your local dump a shot.
the one in my town has a huge area where they sell the useful stuff people brought to throw out, and they often have broken tvs there because some people like to use the spare parts.
i need to make a trip to that dump actually, see what i can find.
i'd call your local dump ahead though, make sure they do that.
or if you think your carpentry is good enough you could try making your own. you could also try giving it a much more cartoon tv look which could be fun if done right.

Go to antique stores. Not boutique/antique stores. Legit ones. Ones that smell old when you walk in. Find a run down little mom and pop shop and you're great. If there's a small town near you that you can visit on a day-trip, do that, but research if there's any in the town before you leave. I guess my argument is people are still making books. CRTs are not being made anymore (or in relatively small quantities) I don't care if people burn/tear books. They can always print more out. You can always read it on the ereader, it doesn't change the experience. However, there are games that specifically don't work on a flat screen tv. It causes lag and all other sorts of problems. However, you are correct, people do usually use broken monitors do this.

Nah you've got to be careful about shocking yourself with a CRT because portions of the computer because it can hold a charge for years after use. Mine come out in one big hunk and I didn't have to worry much, but if you look around on the internet there's plenty of tutorials on how to discharge them safely.

it's two different things that both end in cool costumes.
