I'm on a possibly ill fated journey to make a cute new wa inspired sundress (not necessarily lolita, but cute full skirt etc) I'd love some good inspo that isn't horrible.. I've been looking at Kimono Hime for color combos and ideas, but I'd like to see some other good examples. Please post what you've got

It has a lot of potential - the things I would nitpick in it are mainly fabric choices. The front could be less shiny, and I'm not really sure about the use of checked(?) fabric at the sides - I really would have preferred something more solid. I also personally wouldn't have used ruffles at the side. The dress design itself is solid though - reminiscent of a lot of taobao qi lolita dresses though, and i really like the colors of the dress.

If you go through the yukata category on yja, sometimes you come across sellers who make things like this floor-length wa-loli-type yukata. Considering it's being sold to the Japanese market, I'm not sure who buys them or why.

I love these but I think the trick is to use a really simple cut to let the pattern do the talking. Once you ad all ht sleeves and folds of a pseudo kimono it starts getting too visually busy and bulky

Has anyone ever tried incorporating some Takuya Angel kimono stuff into a wa coord?

I have a reaaaallly old top of his made out of yukata that would actually look really nice if I got a good skirt to go with it. I wonder if anyone has tried that yet, though. And I don't mean his cheesy rave pieces, I mean the stuff that was 100% kimono at some point; for the most part, his older pieces.

I am planning to eventually do a coord similar to >>8215333. I know both lolita and kitsuke and have thought a lot about how to pull of wa lolita. I think there are 2 approaches. Either, the kimono part on top, incorporating the sleeves (which look best if they hit the same length as the skirt or above it) and a single color on bottom. Kimono with designs just on the sleeves or a similar print that isn't "all over" look very feminine. Playing up the Western stylings works well with this approach because it balances out the kimono sleeves.

The other approach I've considered is doing what you seem to want to do anon, which is make a skirt out of a kimono or a Japanese print. I think in this case the print can be more bold like the Meta ones, because the key is keeping the kimono aspect to the print and NOT the shape. So you'd want a more lolita style blouse, but I think that in the accessories you can up the kimono/Japanese aspects. The real problem with most wa lolita failures is that it's too over the top kimono and not enough lolita. You still need those elements, but wa lolita does bend a lot of traditional lolita rules.

Just my opinions. I love wa lolita and am really sad it's not well liked.
