I've sold stuff to newbs in my comm for cheaper than the market value before. It works out as a good deal all round; I get to avoid the hassle of putting it for sale online and potentially waiting weeks for it to sell, and they get a deal $10-20 cheaper than current market value.

>>8203784
I would have liked to see price pointed out too, it's not clear when it's just totals. Price pointed out would make the composition messy.

I'm that anon and it's really just what >>8204620 said. My everyday bag is a rucksack and I've had quite a lot of £8-15 ones over the years and they don't hold up to heavy use and end up tearing within a few months, so I spend more nowadays. My current shoes were £120 but they're leather and they've lasted two and a half years, were resoled once.. I don't buy shoes from charity shops as I've never seen a non-occasion pair that weren't already heavily worn by the time they were donated (and I work in one), but a lot of my other clothing is either bought cheaply from charity shops or given to me as a gift by a relative who loves car boot sales and bargain hunting.

This makes me wonder how many of you don't give a shit about fashion Or just your daily style outside of lolita?

Personally I got interested into lolita over "normal" Japanese fashion like Yojji Yamaoto, Julius, then Alice Auaa, soon hNaoto, Boz, Motie and Meta. I never bought any of the high fashion brands but an average outfit in summer will always hit $100 and way more in winter with leather shoes and coats.

I'm the OP and I like a bunch of other styles but since I'm usually in a hurry, have to adherents a smartish casuap dresscode and have to leave the house at 7:15am my daily wear is almost always some variation on the theme of nice jeans/trousers + long-sleeve + T-shirt (+ nice jumper/jacket + coat). I have a colour palette I work with so it's pretty cohesive but I really only bring out nice outfits, lolita or otherwise, on the weekends. It's a pain to move all my stuff from one handbag to another so if I need a different bag to match an outfit I'm probably only gonna wear it on weekends. When I was a student I used to dress up more but I had a lot more time then.

I got some part-time work in an office that requires smarter clothes and I put more effort into that, but that's because I'm a corpgoth at heart so I like being able to wear pinstriped suits. But even that's a pretty limited wardrobe - charcoal pinstripe trouser suit, black pinstripe trouser suit, couple of other pairs of office pants, black coal neck jumper, wine cowl neck jumper, couple of white shirts, grey silk shirt, wine silk shirt.

I like all kinds of fashion, though I'm not a big fan of the usual casual wear you see people wear like jeans and a shirt or jeans and a cheap sweater(these are my don't give a fuck I'm late for class go to outfits).

I like Japanese fashions and Japanese designers (like Yojji), but I also like western stuff though I don't really keep up with designers as much as I try to keep up with what's being shown and made for the season.

I tend to just look afar rather than dress in them though since a) poor and b) I don't think I'd suit most of the western stuff I like since my body isn't androgynous enough thanks to a short torso and wide pelvis, and I don't like the "sexy" look. A lot of other stuff I see in celeb mags and on the street while "fashionable", I find them boring. No interesting shapes or textures irl.
I have a couple of "higher end" as in retails for $200+, but they were things I found thrifting(most with tags still on)

It's too hot 90% of the year where I live to rock my mainstream wardrobe. (All of my good stuff is for a colder climate--I moved down here not quite two years ago.)
& I'm chubby (or fat, idfk) so all of the warm-weather fashions...eh. They're inappropriate for work and even if they're comfortable, I'd be mistaken for a slob if I wore them because of my weight.

However, I've been building a more polished, professional wardrobe outside of lolita. I graduate this summer and will need business clothing, which I don't have at all. I'd love if I could incorporate some of the j-fash aesthetics, but I'm not sure how to even do that.

I wear cute dresses and sandals daily right now but it's pretty repetitive.

A lot of the girls in my comm are super cute but they really don't care for fashion much outside of lolita. Usually jeans or shorts, a cute top, and flats.

I used to not give a shit what I wore yet paradoxically read a lot about both alternative and and mainstream fashion and get judgey over the latest trends before lolita. Kind of an "I can't afford the stuff I like, and when I saven up for a piece it's out of style within six months, so I won't bother with fashion at all". Plus a lot of trends are too extreme for daily wear (or so I thought). I had a goth phase, but I didn't gave much money and couldn't buy online so it just manifested as wearing black T-shirts and jeans. Really liked the cyber aesthetic for a couple of years but again, without money it just meant adding neons to the same wardrobe. Then I was seriously depressed for a couple of years and genuinely put no effort into my appearance at all. This was all as a teen. Got out of that and into a better place with more disposable income, realised I deserved to look pretty etc etc and started putting effort in with thrifted stuff. Then realised that now I had money, it wasn't a crime to spend money on myself and started buying lolita seriously on my 20th birthday.

Nowadays I mostly dress casual-but-cute (lots of knitwear in colours that suit me, plaid skirts, nice jeans) because I have to look presentable for my major, then at the weekends it's lolita, boyish urban shit (trainers, graffiti prints) or normalfag clothing with a slightly punky vibe (black leather jackets, more plaid, distressed jeans). Had an abortive attempt to get into mori because it's so easy to find clothes suitable for the style in thrift shops near me, but I realised it didn't suit me. I don't spend loads on clothes unless they're real leather or wool though, and I never buy non-lolita designer because the price is so out of proportion to the quality or ethics. Plus I don't like most of it; the only non-lolita designer brand whose shit I consistently like is Demobaza.

I'm not in love with Lolita anymore. It's sucking the life out of me instead of making me feel beautiful. But no matter what I do I can't bring myself to actually leave the fashion. I still love the clothes deep down.
I'm not really sure where to go from here because I don't want to sell my clothes, and in fact part of me still wants to get a few more things to "complete" my wardrobe, but at the same time it's just not for me anymore. I want to go my own way and separate myself from Lolita and the label and the community, but I don't want to get rid of all my clothes because I still love them.

I love Lolita clothes, I just don't love Lolita fashion, and I am a bit lost.

I thought about it but I don't know if I can get into otome or if it's even the right fashion for me. Maybe I'll look through some otome pics later and see how I feel.

To be honest I'm starting to think about leaving fashion completely. Just not giving a damn about clothes at all anymore. I can't quite place exactly why, but I think a lot of it has to do with just feeling like clothes take up a lot of my time but offer me little happiness in return. But I'm one of those creative artsy people and always loved clothes so I don't think I could ever just quit caring.

I'm in a weird place in life right now and that's probably the reason for this identity crisis, but it's just making things more complicated. Is it very common for people to have problems with this? It just seems like such a stupid thing to let bother you, and yet at the same time I'm incredibly bothered.

I've been into Lolita for 7 years now, so it's sort of become a part of my identity, which is why I'm struggling so much with this I think. Part of the problem about asking this question is that pretty much all of the popular lolitas are vocally disliked by someone that posts here. They will complain about their coords, beauty, attitude and personality, people they associate with, pretty much anything they could complain about. No one is universally liked.

I'd say your best bet is to look through tumblr for coords you like and start following those people. Weed out the drama mongerers as you go.

I have liked some of the coords by aerynsys, siriusc, altered-imagery, choke, cadney, neko-story-lolita, victorianme, realisticsweet, nokecha, gwynium, obsixwi, and mysubarashiilolidays, but I'm not sure who on that list is super active and/or low drama.

There's not really any particular method? Binders from different places have different sizing, but when they list "bust" measurement it's no different from in lolita when someone lists the bust measurement. Most places will list either a "band size" kind of thing that correlates with what your bust measurement is (at it's widest, so not the underbust) or just list a size that accommodates a span of measurements. (so it might be like, size 32 or size M for 30-32 in bust)
It may do good to do something like google your bra size + binder or read reviews on what you want to get an idea for sizing, sometimes people have to go up or down for some reason or another.

I think what initially made me like lolita is just, the pretty clothes. I consider myself a pretty fashionable person outside of lolita, but lots of clothing just don't have the kind of details that lolita pieces do, weather it's a detailed print or a really extravagant or well thought out plain-cloth design. I'm also into eccentric things, so the "odd" accessories like donut-shaped purses, headpieces that look like cake, batwing headbands and handbags, bright colors and detailed prints, etc really pulled me in.

I on't really think I have any reason for liking lolita that is that much different from why girls like it aside from the fact that j-fashion for men (as with most of menswear) is dull and repetitive. I like lolita fashion's aesthetic and happen to be thin enough to fit into most brand pieces, so why not?

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but if you order something from IW and it is listed as "sold out" before they invoice you, does that mean you won't be able to get it?
Also, if I can't get this one item, I don't want any of that order. Do they allow cancellations because of this?

Q1: No, you can still get it, they will usually put the item aside for you before they invoice so it depends on if you got your order in before it sold out.
Q2: If the sold out item is the biggest/most expensive, they understand if you cancel everything. If the sold out item is small, they might let you cancel but could be not as nice about it.

Anon, I'm going to suggest you find a local tailor or seamstress that you can visit in person. Some of your measurements are really drastic, and while places like The Floral Notebook, Anna House, Bunny House or Fan plus Friend do a pretty decent job of making lolita blouses, you're really better off with someone who can actually see you in person, note what kind of problems you have, and during fitting you can actually try on the blouse and point out any problems rather than wait for a finished blouse to be shipped halfway across the world to you and then find it doesn't fit well.

For the fabric and lace quality, tell the tailor you'd like to use your own lace, that way you can keep a grip on quality by buying the lace yourself; buy them off etsy or taobao if nice lace is not available in your local shops. Most blouses are made from the same basic cotton and chiffon as any other office blouse, so you can probably work something out with your tailor whether you buy your own fabric or they supply some for you.

Other things I'd suggest are to start with a simpler blouse, so both you and the tailor can concentrate on getting a good fit (you can come back for a more complicated blouse if the simpler one works out). Since you have wide shoulders, try looking up what looks good on you and chose your blouse designs to suit, for instance I think you should avoid cotton blouses with puff sleeves as they'd make your shoulders look wider.

Orders are filled in the order they are recieved. The English site (idk about Japanese one) isn't kept updated constantly, they must manually do it or the stock items refresh every x hours. Something can show up as being not sold out on the site but still be sold out. You may still be able to get it.

When I ordered from them once and the dress I wanted wasn't in stock by the time they tried to fill my order, they let me change the dress. However they messed up and thought I meant a different dress than the one I had told them due to translation error, so I told them to cancel my order and I would submit another one with yet another dress (because both jsks I wanted had sold out!) and the other items I wanted. Didn't give them a choice, just told them and then made a new order. They might have only let me get away with it because I did end up buying the dress (plus even more items) and they had made an error.

They will send you a personal email if the dress is sold out and you can tell them what you want in response. Should be fine, their staff are lovely!

I like lolita because it's so elegant and detailed. I like the aesthetics of the major lolita substyles, and honestly I like that it's "just clothes"-although lolita lifestylers are a thing, I like that you don't have to fit some perfect lolita mold to wear the fashion without getting looked down upon. It's more avant-garde than normal fashion, and I like that aspect of it too.

I wear lolita because I love it, and it makes me happy.

>> No.8209333

>>8208874
When I first saw it (oldschool/gothic stuff when I was 13 or 14) I liked the style because I thought it looked gothic and cool and yet was different from what was popular in the gothic scene at the time. So the usual young teen motivations of wanting to be ~different~ from all the normal people, only with enough self-awareness to realise that the alternative crowd often all looked the same too. And I'll admit that I also thought it looked like anime girls (even though at that point I'd never seen any lolitas in anime), and I thought anime girls were hot and therefore wearing lolita would make me hot. Looking back on it, I'm really glad I didn't have any money for clothes or ability to buy online. I bought ita disaster dresses (although at least I would probably too shy to wear them out). I rationalized that it was too feminine and too expensive for me, so I basically just forgot about it for a while.

Fast forward a few years and I saw the style mentioned online again, and Googling led me to the handbook and more examples of proper lolita. This time what drew me in was the resemblance to historical fashions (I'm a big history buff), and the fact it was feminine but yet not conformist. When I'd been younger I'd been a tomboy and I'd felt a lot of pressure to be more girly and more "normal", which meant for a long while I didn't like any girly things because I felt like they were being forced on me. Lolita was a way for me to embrace feminine things on my own terms. I was originally just an observer of the fashion because I thought it was too expensive and I wouldn't have the confidence to wear it around my family, but when I moved out and got more disposable income I started buying it.

I like how it can make me feel cute, pretty or like a gothic lady of darkness depending on the coord. I also like that it has rules rather than being as subjective as ordinary fashion, where one season double denim is a fashion disaster and another season it's on trend.

IW bodices have a rep for being mostly tube-shaped. Someone posted a pic of the designer being boobloafed in her own dress.

It's really frustrating and perplexing. They obviously cut the blouses to allow for some amount of boobs, but the jsks don't seem to have the same bust allowance that the blouses do. It turns me off a lot of their clothes because I know all their dresses will boobloaf me, even the underbust styles, so no matter how gorgeous their print is, I have to think twice about dealing with the boobloaf before committing to a purchase.

I'd try to make it work, or at least keep it around for a couple of weeks and see if I can come up with fresh ideas, or some other use/way of wearing it.

For eg, If you fit into a jsk but the bodice sits funny, it can usually be hidden with a bolero, or I deepened the darts on one of my JetJ dresses to stop it gaping so much. If you fit into a blouse but the rest of it looks odd (like the waist being too low or the third button won't button), most of the blouse can be hidden under a jsk so it still works as long as I only wear it under a jsk, vest, or something. If the OTKs turn out to be UTKs, you can reserve them for use with tea-length dresses only. It's not really any different than buying a flower crown that you can only wear to a fancy tea party, it has limited uses but it's still useful.

Even for things like a dress that doesn't zip up, you can decide to take it to a tailor's and have them alter it to fit, if you really like it that much.

It usually harder to make a good decision whether to sell an item and take a $30 loss, or keep it and live with its imperfections while you're still emotional over being dissappointed, so it's better to hang on to it for a couple of weeks, come back and make the decision when you can think rationally.

It's a high-waisted skirt that I was between sizes for so I got the larger size, and now I have to make the corset lacing really tight even if I want to wear it with something bulky tucked into it. I feel like making the lacing that tight makes it sit oddly but IDK if anyone else would even notice.

I also noticed when I was trying on coords for it that it was a slightly different shade than I thought and doesn't perfectly match the items I'd planned to coord it with. I was just wondering about this..

How old is Misako Aoki? I've seen her birth date listed as May 15 1982, which would make her 32 (33 in a few months). This makes sense to me as she was appearing in the lolita bibles and elsewhere as early as 2002 (possibly earlier?), at which point I think she was training to be a nurse or was newly qualified(?).

I'm mostly curious as she's around a year younger than me, and I've been seeing her around since I first discovered lolita fashion in roughly late 2002.

I really hope she has no intention of abandoning lolita fashion any time soon, as I think she looks wonderful in it. I'd love to see her still in the fashion at say, 40+ and beyond.

Well, you always have the option of getting the skirt taken in by a tailor, it's just a matter of deciding whether you like the skirt enough to sink even more money into it. As for the colour difference, so long as it doesn't clash, a little bit of difference won't be all that obvious.

Of course, the alternative is you could wear the skirt however you liked, eg- hide the ill fit by wearing untucked blouses, vests, bustiers, etc over the skirt. Use it a couple of times, and then selling it off for $30-40 loss wouldn't feel like such a huge deal, since you've had some fun times in it already.

>> No.8210018

>>8209985
I think the colour difference could be well-disguised by getting an overdress, so I suppose that's next on my to-buy list. Or I might list it for trade for the size down online...

I'm definitely "have a couple of fun times, then sell" kind of person usually, especially when I've already planned the coords to wear with an item, but I've realised lately that doing that probably hurts the market value. "Worn twice" items go for less than "BNWT" ones.

If I created a lolita review blog on tumblr, like a lolita yelp, would that go over well? My idea is that we're such a small community it can be hard to review things publicly and honestly. So people could submit anonymously (or not if they choose). I thought about this when I saw people on BTB talking about that one seamstress being horrible but they're afraid to upset her by calling her out after she screwed them over. To stop false reviews you can require proof pictures and accept submissions from only verified tumblr users rather than anons. You can also link from real reviews on other sites.

I have a tumblr already taken out called "thelolitaspace" and it was going to be a master list type thing linking to all information lolitas could need so if you make your blog post here what it is called and I will be sure to include it as reviews were going to be a big part of my blog, but unnecessary if someone else is doing it.

As for any that let you pin a post to the top, I'm not really sure, I don't think I've ever personally seen one like that. I did some googling for ya, might be able to look at these for a start?

http://theme-hunter.tumblr.com/
http://bajuz-themes.tumblr.com/
http://themetopia.tumblr.com/

Also would be worth finding some disqus friendly themes to allow comments from non-tumblr users. Some other search terms you could use that might help could be tumblr themes for writers, tumblr themes for text posts, professional tumblr themes (might get more hits on organizable themes?)
Don't be afraid to spend time on trying to find one that you like! There's a lot of the typical themes that are more catered towards image sharing, but I've come across plenty of really interesting ones either on people's blogs or just trying to find a theme for myself. Wish I had more specific suggestions for you.

Worst comes to worst, you get a theme with a drop-down navigation bar or a navigation bar in the side column or header and just put links to pages up, with specific tags linked on those pages. ("taobao" "indie" "commisioner" "shopping services" then like, "kidsyoyo" "elegy" on respective pages etc) Doesn't work out that bad.

Noob question here, is it considered rude to sell off a piece immediately after receiving it from a seller? One of the shopgirls told me that half of their customers are Chinese. They do vet out obvious resellers on release days but from what I've seen from releases and instagrams, there are a whole fuckton of Chinese lolitas living in Tokyo. I think most of them do SS on the side too.

I would say if the seller came across your listing they might find it kinda weird, but not rude, unless you're selling it for more than what they sold it to you for. I think it's super shitty to buy something and then immediately sell it at a price where you're obviously trying to make money off of it.

If it makes you feel better, just say something like "bought this, but found it wasn't my style, so hoping to sell it to someone else who will enjoy it!" in the description.

They don't really vet SS. They take names for very popular releases and mark which items you bought (to ensure that you don't buy like two of the same cut if that's against the rules for the release), but other than that, they don't really do shit if you're a girl (I've seen them turn away guys, but I've also seen what appeared to be boyfriends buy with their girlfriends at less popular releases). I still don't understand how people like CT acquire so many dresses unless the rules at her store are wildly different than the ones at the Tokyo shops or she enlists her friends to help her buy stuff.

There are a lot of Chinese people living in Tokyo, but it still seems weird that they make up such a large proportion of release goers.

The Tokyo store is stricter than the rest as Candy (she's the manager) is salty as fuck about resellers. I've heard of people being banned from the Tokyo store, apparently they take down your name and won't be able to attend releases.

I know other stores are more lax, like you could purchase a headbow without buying the matching dress though you aren't the only one wondering how CT manages to get so many dresses.

If she's the one I'm thinking of, she's just kind of a bitch in general.
I visit both the Tokyo (Harajuku) and Shinjuku shops fairly regularly, and the staff at the Tokyo shop is pretty shit in general. The one girl (who I think is probably the manager) rarely even welcomes you into the shop, is kind of curt when you ask questions/buy an item, and was a total bitch the one time I pulled out my phone to check the time during a release. Shinjuku is a bit nicer, but in general I think AP's staff are not as sweet or welcoming as Baby or brands like ETC's staff.
On a tangentially related note, the Laforet LG staff are super sweet, by the way. If you can speak a bit of Japanese, they'll probably engage you in a little conversation. I like that they come off as nice and helpful without seeming too fake (even if they are just being polite). Ank Rouge staff are also pretty chatty, but they seemed to be a bit more fake/cloying and really tried to push a sale.

I think the manager is pretty ok actually, but the Harajuku staff has to put up with a lot more scalpers, as well as SS (looking at you Mariana) and tourists taking pictures, and foreign lolitas who think screaming at them in English is how to communicate. I can see why they come off as having a tude.

>> No.8211346

>>8211314
The Shinjuku shop also deals with scalpers and SS, but they don't seem nearly as rude/cold.
Also, I don't know where the all of the rude foreigners are, but I've only seen a handful of foreigners at all of the releases I've been to, and as far as I know, most of them were people living in Japan/somewhat capable in Japanese. Not to mention plenty of other stores have to deal with foreigners on a regular basis, too.
Being a shop staff means dealing with shitty customers no matter where you work; responding in kind is never appropriate.
I guess it's especially kind of jarring in comparison to most other shop staff in Japan, who try to help you (sometimes a little too much) and repeat 'welcome' every time a person walks through the door (or like every 30 seconds at some of the lower end stores).

No, they're mostly dressed in lolita. I would say, for example, at the Milky Cross release, ~90% of people were dressed in lolita. Maybe 50% were wearing newer/popular prints, and the rest were either wearing coats (mostly lolita) or were wearing older/simpler pieces. I saw a girl in a Nameless Poem OP, actually.
I think the resellers are honestly probably lolitas themselves or like related to a lolita somehow, though, and ever since last year's "no lolita, no entry" release, I wouldn't be surprised if they come dressed up just to be safe. I think there's actually a lot of overlap between "genuine customer" and "shady reseller," so it makes it even harder to really combat the issue.

It felt like a pointless act even though I agree with the sentiments involved. It doesn't make me feel better at all to know that one small group of people cared enough to make a few secrets, when the comments are full of vitriolic trolls. If everyone accessed BtB by just looking at the pictures, rather than reading the comments, it would have been an injection of positivity. I don't really see how going "lolita =/= white" injects positivity, it's a negative statement. If you took the hamplanet they used for "lolita =/= thin" and made a secret that said "I really admire the way you dress and wish I could make my own dresses as well as you" that'd be positivity. This is just really uninspired, bitter and negative towards white, thin or female people (imagine the reaction towards "lolita =/= black" or "lolita =/= overweight").

This so much! And why did it have to be repeated over and over? As a white person I do not think lolita equals white, that is just nonsense. In fact, I'm a member of many online comms and haven't actually seen anyone claim it was, perhaps from less than a handful of trolls.
To assume that all white lolitas think that way by itself is a racist assumption and a generalization against whites.
If they want racism to end I suggest they should take a long hard look in the mirror because they are no better. This is fighting fire with fire and pointless.
I'm not an sjw but I am against racism, from all sides. It's not a one sided/one way street, racism exists in all cultures and amongst all races and it isn't just Caucasians that are "guilty" of it.
And don't even get me started on the lolita =/= female and lolita =/= thin ones.
Most of us are very accepting of brolitas and trans peeps, and no, not everyone hates plus sized lolitas. Once again, to assume we all hate trans/brolitas and plus sized lolitas is by itself really ignorant and a generalization.
These images were (I think) supposed to be positive but if you look at the underlying message they really aren't. There was also no need to make 12. They could have combines them in 2 or 3 images and I think they would have been welcomed more. Right now, they just seem to peeve everyone off and they had the opposite effect of what the sjw OP was trying to achieve.

Nor do I think it's particularly negative towards female people when only one secret featured a brolita, and all the rest were female anyway (it'd be different if they were all overweight black brolitas but that's not what happened).

Bodyline's actually a pretty shit suggestion because their non-print skirts, L325 aside, are actually nearly all awful. It's easy to handmake a simple rectangle skirt in a more oldschool design, you can buy them from indie brands if you really can't do that (Peacockalorum/Stocking Shock does decent plain skirts). There's also F+F - what you get can be hit-and-miss, but they have some nice simpler designs. Of course if you bothered to look through the long list of Taobao shops out there you'd find that a lot offer plainer skirts, typically in at least three or four colourways. For simple designs that can be customized, I recommend Miss Point. I like pic related, and you can pick the colour.

This is their skirt section: http://miss-point.taobao.com/category-366295100.htm?spm=a1z10.1-c.0.0.OG96Ky&search=y&parentCatId=260471336&parentCatName=%B0%AE%C9%E8%BC%C6+%D4%AD%B4%B4%B7%FE%D7%B0%26amp%3B%B7%FE%CA%CE&catName=%B0%EB%C8%B9%B6%CC%BF%E3

I'm interested in the cardigan pictured, but when the dress went up for pre-order, the cardi and otks didn't. Does anyone know anything about how JetJ does non-main piece releases? Do they come out a week later, or not go up for pre-order or something?

I suggest the antaina wedge shoe. It has a cork bottom and is relatively flat but reps the sweet lolita look. Use an insole, but the shoe in general is pretty wide. You can also get the star engineer boots in pink (by AP or replica by secret shop).

Its probably not the right size then. Just sell them and go up a size.

The first time I wore lolita out was at an anime con two years ago. At the time I felt really happy because I got a lot of compliments on my outfit and six or so people asked for photos during the four hours I was at the con, and some positive comments when I later posted it anonymously online. But looking back on it I feel a bit embarrassed to think that people have photos of it, since it wasn't a great coord. No hair accessory, didn't trim bangs on wig (although it wasn't that noticeable because they were pretty much the right length anyway), nothing on hands or wrists despite wearing a short-sleeved dress, makeup wasn't great and I'd had an outbreak of spots just before the con that I couldn't completely cover up. But then on the other hand, even though it was incomplete I at least didn't have any issues with colour coordination, the dress and bag were both good quality and matched really well, the tights and shoes were cute and still match, and the necklace and wig I had matched too.

Problem is that I'm so used to /cgl/ standards of nitpicking that I can't tell if it was merely a "not perfect" coord or one that's actually worth getting embarrassed about, and I don't have photos of it any more.

Has anyone else had similar experiences with being embarrassed in hindsight by a first coord even though it wasn't outright ita? Can they advise?

That might be a good idea. I should probably just not worry about it and thank Mana-sama that I didn't have a really ita first coord, but people on here are so quick to scream "No hair accessory? Ita!" that it makes me paranoid. I never even realised how much people cherry-picked photos for BtB and the like until I joined a comm. Seeing a girl in my comm get a secret posted about her with a photo so old I didn't even recognise her until I saw people commenting "Is this X?" made me realise how deep people trawled for them. Before that I'd always assumed they just used current photos with the most unflattering expressions they could find.

I'm looking to investing in some new petticoats. I have a good idea of what I want for my full bell-shaped and A-line petticoat, but now I want a softer A-line petticoat that's good for my high/empire waist dresses because the skirts are not very wide. I've had a mixed experience with Victoriangirldress's petticoat, and I was wondering if there was something similar to it that isn't made with such a scratchy material (I don't want the material scratching against the skirt's lining) - kind of like kirakirajenjen's ?

Would CP's A-line #3 be too full of a silhouette?

I adore IW style florals, but I also wish that they were available in more colors.
I have contemplated painting my own socks to match my dresses, but I don't know how.
