Use a thick wig or sew in extra wefts so the netting doesn't show, and follow this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2KjFky3nSNg&feature=youtu.be

A pastebin would be a great idea.

My question would probably be a pretty common one too; I want to make odangoes for my Luna cosplay. My first thought is to find some lightweight balls (like styrofoam) and cover them in wefts and clip them on, but I have a feeling that may look like a hot mess, since styrofoam is generally white, and the wig color is dark. inb4 painting styrofoam balls, I'm afraid to get enough coverage, I would have to use a lot of paint, which will make it heavier. Are there any other suggestions out there?

What would you all say is the easiest way to make wefts out of loose hair? I have a kanekalon wig that I ordered that had a thin-ish spot, so I ordered some hair from doctored locks in a matching shade to fill it in. Cover the styrofoam balls in felt (the really cheap kind) first. then you get full coverage and the cheap felt tends to stick to the wig fibers (well, alittle bit aleast with my experince with arda and epic fibers on felt)

>>8189638
both epic and arda wigs run large, both can accodomate up to ~25"-26" head circumfrence. in my experince, epic is about 1 to 2" smaller than arda with arda having the absolute largest cap sizes.

as for wig, my friend bought a hasel from arda wigs
>http://arda-wigs.com/products/hansel
it's literally perfect for his cosplay. the wig flips the way masayoshi's hair does with ease.

the only issues was color, as the most accurate color for masa's hair (from arda) IMO is "sandy brown" however, the hansel does not come in that color. so you're going to have to pick, do you want do little wig styling with an inaccurate color or more styling with the correct color and a completely different wig? (again, all of this is IMO, do w/e you like)

That way if someone takes a picture of me and posts it here I could just say "I tried" lol.

How can I make Rose Quartz's wig?
I'm thinking of curling various wigs toghether and sewing them, but to be honest I have no idea how to start. I should make a base too, but I have no idea on how. If someone could please show me some tutorials, I would be really thankful.

>> No.8191918

>>8191889

A comment in the SU thread got me thinking. Everyone in the show has super voluminous hair and someone suggested to approach it like a mascot costume. I looked up how fursuiters do it and they get extreme cartoony volume by using jumbo braid hair instead of silky straight hair. The difference in texture might be just what you need? I don't think I'd attempt Peridot with straight hair.

I got nothing to cite here in the way of tutorials but going that way would also make the whole thing way, way lighter since you get so much more volume per weft.

The best Rose's I've seen so far usually have some kind of artificial volume at the back of the head, like a beehive or a Bumpit or something going on back there. Look up hime wigs for style inspiration.

I haven't seen anyone do a fantastic rendition of this wig yet, though.

The worst ones have been out-of-the-bag "long curly pink wigs" with no attempt at sausage curls or additional volume.

How's that for a pile of disconnected unhelpful thoughtnuggets?

>> No.8192024

>>8191967

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking. Doctoredlocks has them too, in extra-long versions, which you probably want. I think it's loose hair so you'd have to weft it yourself, and I'm not at all sure what you should attach it to (make an entire wig from scratch? are there base wigs that wouldn't clash with the texture? )

http://echoing-artemis.deviantart.com/art/Rapunzel-s-Wig-Tutorial-1-205175201
This tutorial is for a completely different style, obviously, but it might be helpful in terms of 'how to incorporate jumbo braid into a massive wig'.

Good luck! Lack of hair volume in SU cosplays just... totally kills what otherwise would be pretty decent outfits. I'm excited to see what you come up with!

It's my first time styling a wig and I'm getting carried away by the got2b glued spray and cream stuff... >> No.8195698

Just use spirit gum and attach the hair in layer. Put a strip of spirit gum at the lowest point the hair would go, take a piece of hair from the matching wig and 'poke' the cut ends of the hair onto the spirit gum. Just be patient and hold it up for a bit to let it dry and then carefully brush off the excess hair that did not stick to the spirit gum. Proceed to do the same, adding another layer of spirit gum above the one you just did and doing the same until the highest point the facial hair would go.

Ebay is generally safer. Don't go too cheap though. A decent wig at any length should be at least $20. But give yourself enough time because the shipping can take forever from the cheap chinese sellers. Try laura_wu our cosplay dna to start. Putting in "heat resistant" to your search will generally get better quality fiber. When stored away, easy wigs that only needs a simple brushing goes into a bag and into the drawer, other complicated ones have head mannequins(or somethung that can hold it) and placed on my furniture or in a shelf inside my wardrobe.

I hang my wigs on a wire shoe rack that hangs off the back of my closet door. For packing them, I usually don't. I pin them on a wig head and someone holds it for the car ride. Or if it can be folded in half it goes in a bag, and usually it needs to just be adjusted a little after I take it out.

Seeing all the botched blunt bang jobs in the wig disaster makes me wonder: would anyone care for a gif/video tutorial on how to cut "blunt" edges into wigs and not have it look horrendous? Including notes about curling ends under, and giving bobs an inwards curve so you don't end up with fibers sticking straight out from your head.

On that note, are there any wig-cutting tutorials presented in the same format that give beginner a good foundation of basics? There are a ton of specialty tutorials out there, but I feel like a lot of cosplayers skip straight into complex styling and gloss over things like layering to reduce bulk and learning how to blend their edges.

What's everyone's preferred method for dying arda? I did a patch test and coloured some of it with a sharpie in the colour boysenberry, and it's definitely light enough for the colour I need.

I question your success rate with that color combo, but idye poly is my weapon of choice for dyeing ardas; they use it in the dyeing tutorial on the website.

Getting the dye to boil (not just the water) before you bring it down to a simmer is really important; I'm not too sure about the science side of it, but it's necessary if you want the dye to take.

If you can, get some spare wefts from someone so you can do test swatches, which I imagine you'll need a lot of because the caveat of idye poly is you need to mix dyes or layer one shade over a base wig shade for more complex colors.

Also be really careful of how long you let your fiber sit in the dye bath, as the dye sets in REALLY fast.

Use a light hand since it's really easy to accidentally take off too much. Keep track of the sharpness of your blade, and listen for the sound of the blade scraping against the fibers (as opposed to cutting right through them). Cheap blades will wear out faster than better blades, but wig fibers will dull down blades of any quality faster than real hair will.

Hey all, this is my first time cosplaying. I'm looking for wigs to cosplay as Akane Tsunemori from Psycho Pass, and I want to make it look like this one. I've searched aorund from wigs and found this one from moemall: http://www.ebay.ca/itm/Amagi-Brilliant-Park-Kanie-Seiya-Dark-Brown-Cosplay-Party-Wig-/111484927031
Would this one suffice with enough styling? And it is possible to cut the wig that short (sorry if this seems like an obvious question, but I'm completely new to wigs)? Any help is appreciated, thanks!

>> No.8216336

I'm a guy who's semi into J-fash and am looking to style a wig for that as my natural hairstyle just isn't suitable. My base wig is what I think was originally a APH Italy wig? It is very long for a "short" wig, kind of thick and got a nice color.

I can style wigs decently but I'm looking for tips for a hairstyle. I'd prefer something which doesn't look like it came straight out of a con, but rather kind of natural. I find girls styles are easier in that aspect.

I can post a picture in a few moments.

>> No.8217254

Hey seagulls. I bought a cheap-o wig that i need to style into an updo. The wig, itself, is actually pretty decent. Looks nice, pretty natural. The only problem is that the ends started frizzing like a motherfucker after I started working with it.

So far I've put some leave-in conditioner and water on the ends and combed it through. It doesn't seem to be working at all. Does anyone have any suggestions?

You might have to do it more than once to get the whole wig soaked. Let it hang there and dry. once it's dry, carefully brush through it and then put it on large curlers, you can use empty cans if you want. Then dump hot water on it again. Let it dry again.

Hello. I don't really know who else to ask about this or if this the right place, but I recently bought a wig from a wig shop for a medical condition. The lady seemed very timid about cutting the bangs and just...uneasy in general. They really need cut though, right? I got ripped off for it I'm pretty sure because I don't really know much about wigs. I really don't want to mess up a wig that cost me this much so should I just call around and ask for people who have experience cutting wigs? I only want some sideswept bangs but the woman at the shop acted like I shouldn't even think of cutting it.
Also she said using shampoo for color treated hair would be ok and it's a synthetic wig. It got frizzy after I did that though, so was that just BS?

I'm kind of a noob with wig styling and I don't know where to start.

Not really, honestly. I just kind of deal with it. You'll get used to it eventually.

I'm not sure if it's an only-me problem or not though, because I know a lot of girls who get pixie cuts to make cosplay easier, and I've never heard them complain about this.

>> No.8237406

I cut in the side of a wig and felted it to cosplay Vi. I'm worried it looks super wooly and fake but I don't know any other options. I can't use my own hair as it's cut really short and I'd lose my job if I dyed it.

Would using tacky glue to finish spike points instead of Got2B gel ruin the wig? All the tutorials call it 'basically glue' anyway, and I'm having a hard time justifying buying a tube just to finish off a handful of spikes. I have the spray too, if I can use that instead.

>>8237493
But the g2b stuff. At some point you'll have to fix up the spikes anyway. And then you have it for other wigs. It's only like $5

>>8237493
you can buy like travel size tubes of the spiking glue if you want (it's like 1.50-2 dollars depending) but I find fabric/tacky glue gives a cleaner, more sturdy spike anyway.

I understand I am being the annoying novice but I was trying to navigate some of the wig stores on the pastebin and had no luck. Anyone know of a good place for a Emiya Shirou wig. Price isn't a issue.

Anybody know where I can find a Sendai wig?

>> No.8237746

>>8237727
It's just a shoulder-length wig with (2?) mini ponytails. You can get little clip-ons or get a wig that's wefted for that.
If you want clip-ons, I'd honestly say to get one of those really popular lolita wigs (à la http://www.ebay.com/itm/30cm-40cm-Pigtail-Deep-Brown-Straight-Long-Synthetic-Full-Cosplay-Wig-/111411432948?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item19f0a38df4 ) and straighten it. Maybe thin the ponytails out so it doesn't look so voluminous.
Here's a straight one but you'd have to cut it ( http://www.ebay.com/itm/Cos-dark-long-straight-cosplay-full-wig-two-pigtail-/261405319844?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_2&hash=item3cdcf8a2a4 )

If you want to take the wefting route, you'd have to do something like taking the top half of Arda's Chibi and combining it with the bottom half of any long wig in the same color.

can you maybe take a picture of it? (preferably while wearing it)

Are there any other terms besides "widow's peak" that I can use to find a wig like this?
It's being pretty hard

No problem. I'm still new at putting wigs on and I need to get those hairs sticking out trimmed. Also I'm 5'3" if you need a height reference.

Originally the bangs covered my face, how did I do on trimming them?

>> No.8239464

>>8237379
It looks like this cosplayer in particular took either foam or another base, and used wig wefts on top of it to achieve the crazy hair. The foam or other base would then be attached to the base wug.

Please recommend stores that sell wigs that will not tangle easily. I got two wigs from Ali express and both are already frizzy from just two days of use...

thank you so much for the photos! I think I will concider buying this one for my Sento cosplay. I think you did very well with the trimming (I assume it was your first time doing that too)

So what's the difference between wearing a normal wig and one that's in a ponytail like >>8239052
?
You use a shit ton more bobby pins I guess. anything else?

>> No.8239931

>>8239881
Ponytailed wigs are heavier, you can see the back of the wig is weighed down. So yeah, a fuckton more bobby pins to keep it from sliding, as well as to keep your hair from showing. Whenever I wear a wig like that, I see a hairdresser to shave the back of my neck so absolutely nothing shows.

>>8239726
Cyperous-Cosplay is known for wigs that don't tangle. But also get a detangling spray for wigs (sometimes marketed as synthetic hair spray) and bring a comb with you to conventions.

Widow's peak lacefront?
You might have to make the hairline yourself.
