I don't get why bittersweet lolita is seen as ugly for some people? I find it easier on the eyes than full on pastel, though some people just thought BLACK PRINT DRESS WITH LIGHT BLUE OR PINK THINGS ON IT IM DONE but ones like the girl in the bottom right looks nice imo

"Bittersweet" is simply wearing the black version of a sweet print, so yes, it was and IS a thing. If it's really a substyle is debatable, though. Bottom right corner looks more like this fucking creepycute trend (maybe even the one at the top because of the cross, but can't really say without seeing all the accessories) and this definitely doesn't need to come back for me.

What you guys are talking about is just sweet lolita that happens to have black/dark elements in it. Bittersweet is a pure weeby western "term" and using it outs you as a newfag - oldfags and Japanese lolitas look down on it a lot. We don't call sweet lolita with stuffed animals and rocking horses "sweet toy lolita" just like sweet lolita with floral motifs isn't "sweet flower lolita". It's not bittersweet, it's just sweet.

Japanese lolitas also tried clown lolita for a while...or did you forget about that short-lived but embarrassing trend just because it doesn't shine the best light on your precious nippon lolitas? Just because it's a western trend doesn't mean it's totally invalid, even if it is stupid. It's still a trend that caught on with a noticeable number of girls, and without the stigma around tumblr's influence on the idea there's really no reason to discredit it except for the fact that it's not very well-defined.

It's not a "western trend" - lolitas all over the world have worn sweet coords with black and creepy elements. The only western part is the "bittersweet" part, and tons of western lolitas hate the term, myself included. As you yourself said it's loosely defined, and doesn't really serve a purpose. A sweet coord with black in it is still just sweet, some cow on deviantart started pushing the bittersweet term years ago and, despite pushback from most lolitas, the ita crowd ate it up eagerly. I think a lot of them grew out of their ita phase and just happened to keep the term because they liked it and it's apprently spread like a cancer.

Well, I also don't wear light/pastel colors because they don't suit my skin well enough, but I don't feel like bittersweet is elegant in any way. Pastels and black don't match really well. I've seen many cute non-pastel sweet prints coming in darker colorways that were really cute/elegant/pretty, because the colors are still cohesive enough, and that's what I'm more likely to wear. Bittersweet just look ugly to me.

He's just a lonely guy, and I can't really blame him.
He dated a lolita (some weird bitch) out here for a little over three years, and it left him a bit damaged.
