Last thread got archived.
Back to the topic about Lolita communities. I would like to know why French community is so divided? Apparently some Lolitas were not allowed to the LVER because they don't belong to the French Cafe...
Why can't they unite as one comm?

I'm moving to the Bay Area in a couple of months, I've never been to a meet up before so I'm curious.
What kind of activities are common? How many people on average show up? Age range? People I should be wary of?

Here's an early welcome to the Bay Area, anon!

The Bay Area/SF Comm is huge... there's around 600 members in our FB group with meetup sizes ranging from 10-30.

We've weeded out some creeps so the comm is more active now than ever. Our only lolcow at the moment is Tifaret but she barely comes to meetups anyway and you can easily avoid her online presence by ignoring her on FB. Most activities include lunch to a quaint restaurant, chatting, and taking pics. There's frequent wine/distillery/beer events for those above 21. The weather's getting warmer so we'll have more picnic and museum events coming soon. Tea parties, if you're into that sort of thing. Age range is from early-20s to early-30s, lots of nice cheery lolitas.

I would suggest joining the FB group and introducing yourself to the lolitas that host meetups frequently. The monthly meet is a safe bet since there's no commitment involved but it can be overwhelming when friends group up immediately and you're kind of out in the open, so be sure to post/message that you're new and they'll be more active in getting to know you - not that anyone's a bitch, it's just with so many members its hard to keep track of who is new and who isn't.

Even if there's no rivalry or drama, people form preferences and you can't expect a bunch of lolitas to be BFFs because "we all look the same to normalfags!". (Protip: We actually do NOT all look the same to normal people, normalfags can tell a nice outfit from ita stuff easily.)

I just need to vent for a second. My comm has a very tight knit group of friends, and we usually hangout outside of meets as well. So a lot of the girls have stated that they're intimidated to come to the meets because the feel like outsiders. And some of the girls are trying to be inviting and welcoming, and some are just so salty. Like yes, I understand and appreciate that it's a lot of work to organize a meetup. But nobody is going to show up if you're going to bitch about the attendance in the group page. That's not encouraging anyone. We do the whole facebook poll thing, but if they realized that the winning polls are the ones that the regulars vote on, they don't pay attention to any of the other girl's schedules. I'm not saying that this comm has to cater to everyone, but making a facebook event a week before the date doesn't give anyone time to book time off of work, and just how hostile they can be sometimes makes me not even want to go. It applies, especially when people start insisting every city/country should have only one comm because "We should support one another and all get along as sisters!"
This is often said by itas and people who wind up on the bottom of the Lolita social hierarchy due to their poor personality, hygiene, or behaviour.
Just because we're considered outliers in normal society doesn't make it a free-for-all. You still have to dress and carry yourself to a certain standard or else people will avoid you, which they are perfectly within their right to do.

Very active. There are a good number of older, long-time wearers, but also a growing number of younger people. I want to say that a majority of people fall into the typical college student age range. Generally nice and welcoming. It is a big group and everyone's pretty spread out among the suburbs and Chicago proper, but it's not too hard to make friends with at least one person.

Talking about the Chicago comm, I got removed (understandably) for inactivity (I go to college in a different area, and my 'vacation' schedules were horribly booked up with exams, internships, etc etc making it hard for me to make meetups). I am hoping to come back to the area for my job though. If I explain the situation to a mod, will that be all right?

Again, not mad at all about the situation, I'm just afraid I was blacklisted when I was removed.

Wouldn't say be cautious of ellejay, just aware that she's an attention-desperate special snowflake. Then again a lot of shittalking I'd hear about her was from supposed friends, so perhaps take with a grain of salt...

Chicago comm is pretty good. Apart from occasional personal drama blowups that happen with any big comm and are very easy to avoid, there's fairly regular meets and a range of styles. I would say that if you live in the city without a car/friend with a car, it's a bit difficult to get to a lot of the meets which happen in the burbs, but there's plenty of teas and other events within the Loop and greater city area.

Well anyways that's from an outsider looking in viewpoint. Maybe there were more people scalping this release or maybe there were lots or people unhappy with their purchases. Wow, okay haha.
I never really meant to come off as mean to be honest, i was more confused by half of the things said, and i definitely wasn't trying to stir shit and cause drama.
As for acting like my word is final and shitting up threads everywhere, i don't comment on places that often aside from CoF as concrit when asked, and here and there on rufflechat, nowhere near as much as made out to be, aside from a bit on cgl, but its usually because i've been posted and stuff? overall i don't pay that much attention and don't put much input into heaps of things. I definitely understand how i could come off as rude or "too big for my boots" but honestly its never intended and i feel like theres possibly some people in here who don't really like me in general and want to paint me in a bad light. Fair enough I guess.

I counted and up to that post, she'd only posted three times in the last three months. She got her warning and cut back on posts. Giving her shit for a post a month is just petty.

I only wrote one sentence referring to the actual screenshots, the rest has nothing to do with me being a dickhead. Like i said, i didn't actually intend to be regardless of how i came off. I was moreso defending about how i apparently comment on everything when i don't.

I'm part of the fb group, I haven't been able to attend a meet yet though.

Recently there seems to be a lot of activity regarding planning future meets. Although, I was scrolling through the page the other day and noticed some people got banned, idk what's up with that.

If you want to join the group on fb it's called NorthCarolitas.

I'm in the comm too, and I think the membership gets purged of inactive users every so often. I highly doubt anyone was banned, NC is a pretty drama free comm for the most part. There was a survey a week ago that you had to complete to confirm you were an active member of the community, so chances are that the people who were taken out of the group just failed to fill it out.

Lolita meet ups are for lolitas, it tend to be awkward having people there who arent part of the fashion join. Especially with creepers, most comms wont be into randoms joining when they have no intention of getting into it. Nor would it be interesting to someone who isnt in the fashion to join because that is the common interest that makes the group function. While obviously topics go beyond the dresses, it is the focus of the meet.

Protip: Go to a convention. You'll find lolitas there to take pictures of and it will be less awkward and strange. As long as you're not a creeper. Bonus: Go to a larger convention with a brand presence (AP or BTSSB) or lolita guest or tea party. At tiny cons you might find some huge itas and few to no good lolitas especially if you live in the middle of nowhere.

If you're not creepy, dress nice (like classy nice), and do quality photography, the LA Lolitas will be pretty accepting even if you don't wear Lolita. Are you a guy or girl?

I'm a guy. I don't think I'm creepy. I'm just into cosplay photography, but I also like lolita enough to want to take pictures of it too. That's basically it. I just figured I could get some shots if I went to meets.

I saw this too. I think I will miss Milkyfawn. I'm confused about how she went to Japan a recently and then almost immediately quits. Oh well, best of luck to her. But its also kinda weird how its like "she also wants to do other things with with her life..." I'm like, errr thats what most lolitas do anyways? The two aren't mutually exclusive. But what ever I guess.

She doesn't. Voldie is the one telling her she's creepy.

Well, when some weirdo buys your dress and starts waving it around going "I have something that Milkyfawn once wore!!" it's probably time to go to ground for a bit. Some people just aren't comfortable with that and I wonder if others were taking it further and messaging her wanting to be super bestest friends or something equally weird.

She quit lolita and now wears otome. Many otome brands do not ship outside of Japan. Makes sense that she would sell lots of lolita stuff to fund a trip and buy new clothes while she was at it.

As for "other things", I take that to be a polite way of saying that the blogging stuff was just out of control.

She posted online how bad her life was because she had 'a retard for a brother', and I always told her that word bothered me, since my brother has learning disability
She also was confused at the fact that we have 2 male lolitas ('guys can't wear lolita, right?') And we also have a transitioning lolita, and she was flipping out ('what if he comes into the bathroom with me?' Even though they were a she now)
She's not even a proper lolita, she complains and wanted me to make her coords for her

Just let me vent here, I don't see an immediate solution but I think with time it'll work out.

My comm is pretty spread out. There's two larger groups centered in different cities, and they're able to host meets big and small. My nearest group consists of five girls, including myself, and the five of us are still a bit spread out. 2 girls need transportation, and 4 of us work daily jobs, so we need some time to plan a meet.

So far I've suggested 3 events, multiple locations, I've posted this cafe or that, suggested dates... and nothing has come of it. Everything in a public location has been shot down, because this date doesn't work or this girl wants to stay inside or this girl has anxiety. One other girl has suggested an event, but besides that it's just been me.

It's really disheartening. The one that's consistently had issues with events suggested we try a home crafting meet, or a boardgame/DnD meet. And I would love to attend a small meet like that, but I am not comfortable hosting. I've only met 2 of the 5, the other 3 are complete strangers. She herself has not offered to host, and so it's left hanging in the air.

I'm hoping we all meet at a bigger event and pin down something that works.

>muh anxiety
Why is this person, and others who have this issue, in this fashion is beyond me. Do these people seriously just wear their clothes in their bedroom? So much for muh self expression and empowering clothing style.
Going in a group should be at least a good way to ensure some security. The world is bigger and scarier then hanging out in a group of similar minded people.

Either way I'm sorry you're having a hard time with this. It's great wearing it on your own and all, but there's magic in going in a group. Maybe focus on arranging a time with the girls who work's hours, since those are most uniform. Those without cars can figure themselves out. They will, once they realise what they're missing out on.
