Old one in autosage >>8142010

Reposting from saging thread.

I ordered a dress from Usagiyouhinten and I just checked the tracking. It seems my parcel was sent back to them.
I don't understand why? Never got a notice that they attempted to deliver my parcel and no delivery person ever showed up in the first place since I always use my sisters address as she's always at home cause she's unemployed. She didn't get a slip either btw, had her check it.
Am I fucked now? Will I be blacklisted? Would they send it again? I'll gladly pay for shipping again so that is not an issue.

>> No.8149766

>>8149759
idk if you'll be blacklisted, but you should email and ask. They have someone who speaks surprisingly good english.

>> No.8149792

>>8149766

I've just sent them an email that it has been returned to them (but not arrived yet). Also apologized a couple of times and told them I will pay again for re-shipping it. Fingers crossed they don't get mad at me and blacklist me. I know it's not their fault but I hope they also understand I didn't mean this to happen either. It's like it never got past customs which is odd, the goods are not at all prohibited. I expected to pay about 35 euro's to customs for this as well, but no-one ever turned up with the package. I called the Dutch postal service they say they can't help me out and can't tell what went wrong grr.
I've been ordering online for over 10 years, never had this happen to me. This was my first time ordering from Usagiyouhinten.

I don't see why they would blacklist you. Worst case scenario they'd have to refund you the money and just re-sell the dress. It's not like you freaked out and canceled an order or something, it was a mistake with the postal system. You're not demanding it be re-sent to you for free.

TL;DR They won't blacklist you because you've done nothing wrong and caused them only a very small inconvenience.

Thanks anon. I'm hoping for this. Guess hearing all those BtSSB horror stories have made me very nervous. Never actually heard of someone being blacklisted by Usagiyouhinten but I'm still scared. It's a dress that is not at all popular but still very much of a dream dress of mine so I really hope they are willing to resend it at my cost, though I'll probably opt for a faster shipping method (went with SAL) to reduce my stress. Haven't heard back from them yet, hopefully will hear from them within 48 hours.

Anyone familiar with the fit of R-Series tights? I'm super into this release, but since I'm 174cm I'm not sure if I should bother ordering the tights. I have a pair of their tights from their dear? series, the tights with the bunnies on them and they are soooo nice. I am almost 5'8" at about 125lbs and the tights have a lot more room left in them. The quality is also very nice, they are opaque and thick, I haven't snagged them yet!

On top of that R-Series definitely isn't the cheapest taobao brand out there, especially since they charge absurdly much for their small accessories. So far, I have accumulated a MM coat, Moitie hand bag, head piece, bustier, choker.
I am trying to do this kind of systematically so that I can develop a "lifestyler" type wardrobe and donate all of my other crappy clothing.

What do you seagulls think of this little mash up from F-Yeah Lolita? What is a good amount of pieces for the ability to wear lolita say 5 or 6 days of the week.? Thanks :3

You're going to need more than that if you're wearing it 5-6 days a week. I'd say that to safely wear lolita almost everyday you'll need 30-40 main pieces, with some more OTT pieces for special occasions such as meets.

I've never understood girls who want to go straight from newbie to lifestyler loli 24/7. It's such a lot to buy without knowing if it even looks good on you.

I'd say to take it slow. Take the advice on wardrobe colors, that part is pretty sound. Ditch the rest where she says you need x number of skirts or cutsews.

What you want to do is get a couple of coords, and see how you look in them. There's no point accumulating MmM items if you look like shit in them. So get together one coord or two coords and troubleshoot any problems you have (eg if your petticoat doesn't look right or whatever). When you have that sorted, make another coord. Use some of the same items from your first coord, eg- same shoes, bag, headdress. Keep the color scheme in mind, don't buy anything outside of your chosen color scheme. Do more coords, and eventually you'll find you have enough coords to last you for your laundry cycle. If you kept the color scheme consistent you can now build new coords from existing items in your wardrobe. Along the way you're going to find out if you like skirts + blouse combo or jsks, or cutsews more (this is why I said to ditch the advice on x number of skirts and blouses. Why buy something you hate to wear? Fill your wardrobe with what you like to wear)

If your final aim is to be a lifestyler, you're going to want easy-to-wear, easy-to-wash pieces, otherwise you spend a lot of time and money doing laundry. So keep an eye on how to maintain the items you buy. You'll also want to think about your actual lifestyle and build your wardrobe around that, for eg, if you go swimming you'll want actual swimwear and not cutsews and bloomers. If you have a part time job painting houses, it's cheaper to keep buying black t-shirts than MmM cutsews. For some activities full-on lolita may not suit, if you want to look consistent, just stick to the color scheme.

If you get main pieces that are very versatile (lots of plain colours, simpler prints, JSKs and skirts rather than OPs) I'd think you could get away with a minimum of 20 main pieces but you'd need at least that many blouses/boleros/cardigans to be able to get sufficient variety and deal with laundry. And along with that a variety of socks, headwear, shoes etc. so you can wear each main piece in a lot of different ways.

I really enjoyed that post of hers, and all other "build a wardrobe"/"complete wardrobe"/"one dress, seven looks" posts by lolita bloggers. My main thinking is that you don't necessarily need a huge amount of main pieces, you just need to be smart in wardrobe building so you can get a lot of wear out of each of the main pieces.

IMHO, this isn't enough for a lifestyle wardrobe. You want at least 6 or 7 blouses (or cutsews, but cutsews aren't really seen nowadays - you can also wear turtlenecks), which can be washed, and vests or long-sleeved T-shirts in a matching or neutral colour to wear under them. You'll want most of your skirts and JSKs to be easily washable, although they won't need to be washed as often as your skirts. You'll want seven of those too, even though you could conceivably wear a different coords every day of the week with less, because otherwise you'll just look like you're wearing the same thing all the time. Unless you already live in heels, you'll want at least two different pairs of flats, and you need multiples of each type of legwear because you have to wash them each time you wear them. Then, say, a cotton/knit hole to, a chiffon bolero, a jacket, a vest/corset/bustier, and, for a lifestyle r, a coat and umbrella and hat and gloves...

>> No.8153568

>>8153007
Honestly if you're just talking about daily clothing for grocery shopping and work/college you're way overestimating the amount of stuff you need.
This is just my personal experience but I don't wear a different outfit every day of the month like your numbers suggest despite a relatively full wardrobe. At best I wear a different outfit every day of the week. This has something to do with the fact that I prefer to wear my perfect favorite over something different but less beloved.

>>8152992
The wardrobe only really needs more outerwear and legwear.

>>8153542
I think you're overestimating how much it matters if you look like you're wearing the same thing all the time. People who see you regularly like at work expect a regular look (if they care at all). The variety is more important for your private amusement.

>> No.8153588

>>8153553

The chart was seriously flawed to begin with, it's mostly centred around the idea of "7 everyday outfits plus one weekend fancy outfit", without really taking in account the real, actual practicalities of living in lolita clothes every single day, such as having enough legwear so that you can wear a fresh pair every day (unless you're one of the slobby few who enjoy sticking their feet right back in the sweaty, smelly socks that you wore two days ago and haven't washed yet).

>>8153568
>The variety is unimportant

See, in this case, you don't even need to count main pieces. What you really need is enough of the items that directly touch your skin, eg- one pair legwear for each day, 1 top (cutsew/blouse) for each day, 1 pair of bloomers or shorts for each day (each day between your laundry days, that is). So long as all your items match each other, you can have just two main pieces (skirt or jsk). When you get home, hang the main piece and your petticoat up to air. Wear the same main piece every day, just change your cutsew/blouse, bloomers/shorts, and legwear. The second mainpiece is your backup in case you spill something, or something to wear on laundry day while the other main piece is being cleaned.

How prepared for different seasons are you, 'gulls? If you live in a climate that only has a couple of months of really hot or really cold weather, do you buy lolita items to wear just during that time or do you find it easier/cheaper just to not wear lolita for those months?

I'm wondering because I've got a Taobao order in the works which probably won't arrive until late April because there are some custom items involved. I don't have any short-sleeved blouses at the moment, and I figured if I wanted anything for summer I should add it to this order, but I don't know if it's worth it when I live in a northern country where summer is only too hot for long sleeves for about six weeks.

This might be something that everyone already knows about but...

I hate the idea of sweat getting on my blouses or OPs so I used to use garment shields. (Pic related, these are $5 for 5 pairs) But I wear lolita a lot - not quite on the daily, but a lot - so buying a ton of shields got expensive really fast. Sooo... i switched to panty liners. Nowadays, even with a one-colour wardrobe, I think you should have more than one pair of shoes as they can completely change the appearance of a coord and are cheaper than buying new main pieces. With a wardrobe like this with only a handful of main pieces, shoes should really be considered like the accessory items to be swapped in and out to create different looks with only a few dresses. For example, coording a black-and-white dress with black-and-white OTKs, high-heeled Mary Janes, and a black-and-white rectangle headdress will give you a super oldschool look, while coording it with a bolero/jacket, bonnet and boots will give it a much more classic look, coording it with chunky shoes, a round headpiece and a gothic bag will give it a more gothic look, and coording it with tea parties, a blouse with a peter pan collar and a headbow will give it a sweeter look.

Besides which, if you live somewhere with a four-season climate and don't want to wear heels 24/7 but like the way they look you'll probably need four pairs of shoes anyway - some flat shoes, like tea parties, some flat boots, some heeled shoes, and a heeled boot.

I think a dozen main pieces, seven blouses, 2-3 boleros or jackets, a coat, at least 7 items of legwear, at least two pairs of shoes, 3-5 hair accessories, 5 or so other accessories and 1-2 bags is plenty to begin with. Then of course either one or two petticoats, depending on whether you stick to one skirt shape or not, and some bloomers and vests and other underwear items. Once you have that base down you can add main pieces to it over time, as well as trendy items like peignors and underskirts. Once I had 12 main pieces in my gothic wardrobe (because a gothic wardrobe is easier to coord than my classic wardrobe because it has a more limited colour palette), I felt like it was really big.

For building up a sizeable wardrobe fast, it kinda helps that Bodyline's all-black pieces are among their nicest, giving you a cheap source of machine-washable clothes to bulk out your wardrobe.

I don't think fyeahlolita's estimates are far off tbh (anons don't seem to be looking closely enough at the image to notice that she says "as many different types of legwear as possible" and just jumping to the assumption that she says you only need three). Five main pieces and five tops is definitely doable, but it'd be a heck of a lot easier with 8+ main pieces, seven tops, and more thran one pair of shoes.

I've always wondered how Barbie would look in lolita, but this isn't quite how I imagined it.

Maybe it's just the wrong version of Barbie, but it reminds me of those high fashion models who did runway work for AP or the ANT models who had to do the J-fashion challenge.

Potentially cute, but poorly coordinated and styled/made-up.

I've been trying to look for indie/handmakers who do commissions for items like collars, hats and corsages. Does anyone have recommendations? No one I was interested in from the circulating shop lists seems to be active/open for orders, at least that I could tell.

Alternatively, does anyone have recommendations for corsage makers they like on etsy, etc? I'm talking like pin on corsages, not headdresses.

I tried to work out the theoretical maximum amount of base pieces a gothic wardrobe would need a while back, and I don't think this pic is far off when you discount all the unnecessary accessory items I included. I didn't include jewelery, but a set of silver jewelery (or pewter, or pearls) with maybe a lace choker and rosary would do the job. Wigs are unnecessary, but it's still useful to have one or two. Add a couple of bags and several pairs of shoes, and then you can add pretty much any main piece you want and be able to coord it.

All in black, but you could add some white, wine, blackxwhite, blackxblue, etc items too if you're not just working with a single colour.

Maybe it's just me but personally I feel like berets don't suit gothic well. The few times I've liked them were in military styles that honestly trended more classic. I think a black felt bowler or boater hat is a better simple staple for gothic.

Yeah, I feel like berets are more suited to casual coords in black and basically included them for that reason. I don't think a plain beret suits most gothic styles.

I just find this list satisfying because as I go down checking off items (I have a couple of other slightly adjusted lists for the other base colours in my wardrobe) I feel like I am getting closer and closer to having a "complete" wardrobe. I use it as a sort of wish list since I feel like I have enough main pieces now (got ~20), and although I'll buy the odd dress that catches my eye all my dream dresses go for crazy prices so I don't find hunting them down a realistic proposition right now.

Honestly, if you have so much problems with fitting, you're really much, much better off finding a local tailor that you can communicate with. They'll be able to measure you in person and you can go in for fitting before the final dress is sewn up. Just make sure to stress that the skirt needs to be 2.5m to 3m (AP poof), and make sure you can communicate with them about what detailing you want on your dress.

Anything you order off the internet will usually have fit problems because the person sewing it doesn't have you right in front of them to check that the measurements are truly correct.

I'm really quite conflicted.

>been wearing lolita for a couple of years but was a poorfag until recently so I don't have a huge wardrobe and it lacks cohesion
>super busy with studying and back in my commless hometown once exams are over so probably only gonna be attending one meet between now and September
>since it's the only one I'm going to for a few months and it's one of my mom's biggest events I'd like to go all-out
>but if I want to be sure my Taobao order will arrive in time for the event, I have to pay for the items next week (shipping comes later)
>$160 to play with

Choice: do I spend literally all of it on the outfit for this meet (because that's how much the OP I had in mind, plus shoes, plus headwear would cost) , or do I wear a plainer outfit to the meet and use the $160 to get myself three skirts and a couple of bags to build my everyday wardrobe? I wanted to go in summery classic but there's no way I can coordinate an extravagant classic OP with my existing wardrobe, which is mostly either plain or gothic. I don't feel like it's worth going to a meet so close to exam season if I'm going to be dressed boringly, but at the same time I'm worried that the less expensive skirts and things I want will sell out if I spend all my money on this OTT outfit.

>> No.8156048

Depends: do you want to have a cohesive and flushed-out wardrobe to wear daily, or an outfit to possibly impress people at one meet?

Pro-tip: unless you're rich or saving up for a while, you won't impress anyone. An averagely dressed person (not badly dressed, just average) in a $600 rare dress and $300 of brand accessories will always impress lolitas more than a well dressed person a $100 taobao dress with $20 accessories.

>> No.8156062

I have a bunch of blouses, which is why if I wasn't getting the OP I'd be buying skirts. My current wardrobe has half a dozen blouses, two OPs, four JSKs and four skirts. Most of the main pieces are solid colour. I used to have more but I sold off a few Bodyline items recently and only kept the nice-quality ones. This OP I'm thinking of buying is in a colour I want to have in my wardrobe in the future but currently don't have any shoes to match. Coordination wise it might be easier to try to do an OTT gothic coord, since I have all the accessories for that, but I haven't seen any extravagant black OPs I liked that weren't from brand.

>> No.8156069

>>8156050
That's a harsh truth I guess. Only a few people in my comm wear brand items on a regular basis so I hadn't seen it as a huge issue, but you're probably right that a $160-200 outfit isn't going to have serious wow factor.

Daily versus meets is another tricky thing. I don't just wear lolita to meets, but since I'm busy wiyh exam stuff at the moment this meet will likely be the only time I wear lolita, at least until July.
