IW contacted me once just under a month after I ordered due to my asking, only to tell me some items were sold out and If i wished to continue.
I replied I did, fast forward to yester after a few emails regarding my order only for them to tell me pretty much everything I ordered was sold out.

Pretty fucking pissed off actually. I ordered only a couple of hours after the 15% pre-sale began, and have nothing to show for it. WTF.

Does anyone know what this is about?
http://www.babyssb.co.jp/info/classical/
Does this mean they are going to re-release a lot of their old (school) designs?

Looked up at an early age, ruffles and lace full of clothes.
It's the story of the beginning of the BABY.

"Instant dress clothes tailored just for the torso.
Our minds and dance at that moment appeared was the Planar fabric is three-dimensional, airy silhouette.
Or excited dons the clothes of the BABY girl, or pounding, felt encouraged when. It is we continue making your clothes so much, always cuddle girls heart does not change from the old beliefs.
Older, around the environment is changing in like likes used. Because we desire or want to express in your clothes. Want to reaffirm the clothing itself because we defy to the hilt, attraction.
Now that your clothing nostalgic and I love appeared as a BABY CLASSICAL SERIES. Pure feeling when I first started I'm sure Lolita although should be revived."

Lolita noob here, didn't want to make a new thread for a single question so forgive me if this isn't exactly on topic.

Is there any advice you would give to a tall girl (5'10"/177cm) looking to buy her first coord? I have a longer than average torso and routinely have issues with fitting into Western clothing that has defined waist or underbust elements. There are a ton of really cute JSKs that I want but I'm terrified that they'll all be too short for me. I'm looking at blouse + skirt coords as a safer alternative, but not being able to buy anything with straps ever for fear of them not fitting really sucks.

I'm a fairly decent seamstress, so I don't think I'd have a problem buying larger sizes for the vertical length and then taking them in to get rid of the extra horizontal length. Or are there any particular brands/taobao sellers that might have more variable sizing? I'm not expecting actual burando to accommodate my freakishly long torso, but maybe there's a nice indie brand or taobao seller that's more flexible.

Help plz I just want to be cute.

I'd recommend IW long length dresses that are not high waisted. The strap length can also be adjusted on most IW jsks. I'm almost the same height and also have a long torso. IW long length jsks have become a staple in my wardrobe although the skirt and blouse combo will work well if the skirt is long enough. The majority of lolita skirts are high waisted so take this into consideration. If you post some of the jsks that you like I'm sure someone will be able to give advice if they will fit or not.

not understanding the problem with the sleeve/skirt silhouette on wa-lolita. Plenty of princess-sleeve blouses have long trailing sleeves, and if you look at medieval/baroque sleeves, many dresses have huge flowing bell shaped sleeves. It's rather elegant when done well imo. Go to innocent world website and look at their princess sleeved blouse. The kimono sleeve is just taking it one step further, and looks cute when done properly. I'm shallow so my measurements are uncommon due to breast tissue placement. I'm a 32.5" underbust technically, I size up for my band for comfort. Depending on bra lift (or lack thereof when just wearing a sports bra), due to my breast tissue placement I can get boobs anywhere from a 34" to 37". Bra fitting is complicated, but that doesn't change the fact that someone with a 32DD (assume measured correctly) shouldn't need a binder to wear lolita. Maybe for old Moitie, but not IW, AP, or BtssB. A good sports bra will have enough minor compression to let them fit most things.

Long sleeves should also be avoided at all costs if you have broad shoulders or long arms (or a combination of both), they are like 15 cm too short on me.

That's funny, I'm the same height as you and own about 10 main pieces. The only pieces I have a problem with are two of my OP's, and that's just because of the sleeve length, ends about 10cm above my wrist. Everything else is great length wise, and the waist sits fine.

>> No.8130730

Also recommending the IW long length jsks. I've got a very long torso, and find that the extra few cm on the bodice itself, as well as the room for strap adjustment, is really useful, as the bodices actually fit properly. Avoid AatP's non-adjustable strap dresses, they lean towards being on the short side.
Depending on your style, Atelier Boz can also be very tall person friendly, as they also do dresses in different lengths (including 'mens' sizes). The only downside to Boz is the vastly variable sizing.

So I know this has been asked before, but where do seagulls suggest for wigs? I really don't want something that looks like a cosplay wig, but all I know of other than GLW is l-email and Lockshop. GLW's wigs are crap, their business is super shady and their customer service is horrible. Lockshop's are too expensive for the mediocre to average quality and their customer service is also disappointing, strangely enough l-email is the only one of those three I've had nothing but good experience with. Arda's wigs are alright but they're also expensive and good luck getting the color/style you want at any given time because they don't restock frequently.

If they can be bought with FromJapan, I'll definitely consider it. The raw yen prices are only slightly more than Lockshop so it's a no-brainer.

Since I don't cosplay at all so the method lolitas who also cosplay use of "order wigs from ebay, use for cosplay or palm off on a cosfriend if they turn out crap" doesn't work well for me. I just end up with crap wigs that I can't use or sell (I've got three sitting in drawers waiting for me to get rid of at the moment). I'd be willing to pay more just to avoid that bother. I've only ever got one ebay wig worth keeping, other than from l-email, and even l-email's seem a little hit-or-miss colour wise. Oh, and I forgot to mention Bodyline, but what I've ordered off them I haven't been impressed by at all. I only ever bought one straight wig off them, but the fibres were worse than GLW and it was thinner than the wigs I've got off l-email.

Figure out what style appeals to you the most. (For simplicity, let's say the basic styles are: sweet, gothic, and classic.) Look at the coord and collage threads for inspiration for the style of your choice, then start shopping. A good basic starter coord is: JSK, blouse, legwear, shoes, accessories (like jewelry and headwear).

You can shop lacemarket, Bodyline, or try your hand at taobao, or just buy through a taobao reseller (like my-lolita-dress or clobbaonline). Since it's CNY I would recommend using the time from now until CNY to research the looks you like best and shed your initial ita compulsions. Everyone has them at first, don't worry. Just read the coord help threads and see what people are saying.

Plan to spend at least $200-300 for your first outfit, even buying secondhand or "cheap" Chinese brands. If that seems absurd to you, this is not the fashion for you.

Basically what >>8131257 said. Look at pictures of lolita coords to try to figure out what direction you want to go in for your first outfit. Tumblr blogs like lolitahime (who reblog a lot of sweet coords and brand photos) are helpful for this, as well as those of individual lolitas. Off the top of my head I can think of Fanny Rosie (vintage-y classic), Xylia-X (sweet classic, classic) and Brizblossom (gothic, but involved in vote-buying drama) on tumblr, but there are dozens of famous, good lolitas on tumblr. You can also look at vlogs by lolitas on YouTube, like Princess Peachie (sweet), Lillith Grey (gothic) and Fille de Porcelaine (gothic and old school) to get more of an idea of the different styles. LovelyLor (mostly sweet) and Deerstalker Pictures do a lot of comedy videos, but they've also done videos explaining lolita styles. The tumblr blog lolita-tips is much maligned here on /cgl/ because the girl that runs it doesn't have great coords herself, but her beginners guides are pretty solid (and the shop list under the Useful Links section of the blog will give you a lot to poke around in). The Blogspot blog fyeahlolita is probably your best resource - you should definitely read the posts in the What Is Lolita section of her website, and her posts on Building a Complete Lolita Wardrobe and Bodyline: The Lolita's Wal-Mart series are really useful for someone at your level - even though the advice on shopping in them is slightly outdated, their ideas about how to mix-and-match pieces and build a cohesive colour palette are still relevant today.

>> No.8131598

>>8131593
Also, they're pretty outdated (from the pre-print days of "match everything else your wearing to the colour of the lace on your dress"), but still worth a read to help you understand the basics of the lolita style are the old Lolita Handbook on LiveJournal as well as HelloLace (just ignore the wackier/dead styles featured for the time being, like wa, punk and ero, and the fact HelloLace refers to every style with a Japanese name and seems to think Alice lolita and all-sax lolita are subtitles when they're not). A beginner should basically be looking at gothic, classic and sweet, maybe sailor. The others are slightly harder to get right straight away.

Just looked through my YouTube lolita subscriptions and this is what I've got. If you manage to get through all these, I'll be impressed.

Mims Lang (sweet with a lot of red and navy)
LovelyLor (pastel sweet, among other things)
Princess Peachie (pastel sweet)
Fille de Porcelaine (gothic and old school)
Lilith Grey (gothic, with a lot of Angelic Pretty's recent gothic-ish releases)
Princess Jessie-Kate (old-school sweet)
Deerstalker Pictures (Australian comm, bunch of comedy lolita stuff)
Deerstalker Pictures 2 (unboxings, Kawaii Fashion School and bloopers)
Acchirin (sweet, lots of recent brand stuff)
HelloBatty (gothic, she actually kinda pisses me off but I might as well include her)
Vanessa Lopa (sweet, okay overall but ignore any point she says wedge sandals are OK with lolita)
There are a couple of others too, but they've only posted one or two videos so I won't include them. I also had a gothic lolita from the southern U.S. in my subscriptions who seems to have deleted all her videos for some reason.

There are also several lolita documentaries on YouTube, but unfortunately a lot are in subbed Japanese so I can't remember the titles. Refinery29 did one called Lolitas in Amsterdam about a comm there, and then there was a four-part interview with Innocent World's designer by Kawaii Pateen and a recent Japanese programme going around Harajuku at New Year.

Saging because there are a lot of posts about this already, but lolita-tips' tagging systems is also quite helpful for style examples. So like lolita-tips.tumblr.com/tagged/gothic or /shiro or /bittersweet or /oldschool or whatever will give you pictures of examples of that style. You'll get less outdated examples than the old style guides will give you, and it's less hit and miss than searching tumblr as a whole for stuff tagged "gothic lolita" or whatever, which will bring up all kinds of shit.

Don't expect to buy all the items for your first coordinate in one place, either. For example, you can't get petticoats or bags from Bodyline (and their blouses aren't great either, and unless you want an old school headdress or that carousel print you can't get a hair accessory from them). Obviously if you're buying second-hand it'll all be coming from different sellers, and if you're buying brand in the sales (Innocent World's sale can get pretty cheap) you're unlikely to be able to buy a petticoat there too. You can get pretty much everything from Taobao, but since EMS shipping from China is expensive for heavy items like shoes it's probably cheaper (and quicker if none of your other Taobao items are custom-made - An*Tai*Na make to order and can take a while) Bodyline's free shipping deal to get shoes, unless you need a colour they don't stock like lavender and mint (or navy and gold, which they do now stock but only in two styles).

Speaking of shoes, if you plan on attending meetups or wearing lolita out and about, don't make your first pair of shoes heeled platform monstrosities. I really regretted only buying heels once I started attending meets. Also make sure that the first few items you buy all fit the same petticoat, unless you have the money to buy both types.

>> No.8132730

>>8131238
Save up and buy a bunch of things at once or you'll end up spending more on shipping in the long run. If you can't afford to do that, don't go buying dresses then half-assing a coord with normalfag clothes and no accessories. Get in a stock of accessory items and basics that can be worn with ordinary clothes first (things like hair accessories, tights, bags, maybe shoes) and don't buy any main pieces until you have the accessories to match and the money to buy a petticoat too.

For a first order I suggest you get a first outfit, with some items that can be swapped around creating a base that can be added to with items from Lacemarket later. So for example buy a petticoat, and a JSK with shoes, bag and hair accessory all matching the main colour of the dress (say, sax), then a blouse and legwear in a neutral complimentary colour (like white or cream). Expand this with another set of blouse and legwear in another colour in the print (say, pink), and bags and shoes in another or the same print colour, or a complimentary neutral (say brown, if this theoretical sax print dress was a sweet-classic offering). You then have a base to which you can add any OP, JSK or skirt that will match with sax, pink, cream or brown, of which you can find lots on Lacemarket and pick up piecemeal.

(if you're willing to sacrifice entirely-whiteness white rocking horse shoes are a good option. Bodyline used to have a pair with detachable white roses but I can't find them, but these would be easy to cut the bow strap off)

(not the most lolita IMHO but they are brand)

http://www.bodyline.co.jp/bodyline/showProduct2.asp?id=6631&pageNumber=3&pageStop=stop_3&noSubType=N
(a rather old-fashioned style of shoe that might still work in a gothic look)

http://www.bodyline.co.jp/bodyline/showProduct2.asp?id=2025&pageNumber=6&pageStop=stop_1&noSubType=N
(ditto old-fashioned but still fairly cute)

http://www.bodyline.co.jp/bodyline/showProduct2.asp?id=6417&pageNumber=2&pageStop=stop_3&noSubType=N
(these are pretty hideous IMHO but they fit your description)

Boots:

Krad Lanrete made this status, pretty sure they are calling out scalpers and resellers

"1.All new dresses would be pre-sell in the Europe 2. Please be careful to those unofficial shopping services ( especially from taobao, etc. ) to avoid a second- hand arbitrage. The arbitrage, which happened several times before, has caused many problems to both the Krad Lanrete brand and the Lolita who love the dresses. 3. For lolita, go for IW especially their longer options, victorian maiden and Mary Magdalene if you have the measurements to fit into those brands. The dresses are long and a-line.

You can even get lucky with some AP and BTSSB but you'd need to figure out the cuts that work best for your frame and stature.

Otome is also tall friendly. Jane Marple and Leur Getter fit me properly, and I am your height.

My only real issue with japanese clothing is that they make the bust very cylindrical and straight up and down which isn't so great if you have a cup size larger than a B. You'll also probably find you'll have issues with dresses that have shoulders you can't adjust - you may need to get items altered so that the arm holes are made larger. Better yet, go for dresses that have the adjustable straps.

I generally stick to dress coordinates over skirt and blouse, because brand blouses can be short in length and the skirts can be too. Unless you go for custom taobao or doubly check the measurements to be sure!

>> No.8133673

>>8133655
Not the anon that posted this, but in terms of custom Taobao I'd recommend Surface Spell. They've done some longer-length stuff in the past. For blouses, The Floral Notebook will make stuff to fit you (she asks for torso and arm length measurements as well as the standard bust-waist-hips-shoulder. There are others that do that sort of custom sizing but I don't have experience of them (or I have had mixed experiences with them, like Fan+Friend).

An Tai Na unfortunately can't offer cheap shipping. A while ago I was inquiring about custom shoes and while the shoes were very reasonably priced, the shipping they offered was very high. I asked them if they'd mind ordering through a shopping service instead for cheap shipping and they didn't mind, luckily.
Long story short; 6 pairs of shoes = 165 usd shipping. TBring = approx 60 USD.

>> No.8134871

Oh it was 70 usd, I got the wrong amount. But still, for 7kg worth of shoes that's not bad. That's SAL though, but that has always been reliable for me in the past. I can also use SEA if I want to (my order isn't ready to be sent yet) and that costs even less, only $36-ish dollars. Never used SEA before, but might try it.

I forgot to add, I don't know where you live of course but in my country they charge tax over the shipping you paid. In the Netherlands you tend to pay quite a lot to customs, so the cheaper the shipping, the better!

Do the straps on the arms need to be longer or does the bodice itself just need to be longer?

>> No.8135471

>>8135425
It depends on the bodice. I'm 172cm so this is always a problem for me as well. You can make some dresses work by detaching the straps in the back and either making them longer or pinning them together in the back to make a halter style. Some don't. If the bodice is princess seamed this trick won't work because your boobs will be too high in the bodice and it'll fit strangely. It works better with ones that are darted or have no seams in the front.

I would recommend using tumblr and having a #me tag or something similar when you post them so you can find your photos again if you're the sort of person that regularly reblogs loads of other stuff (a link on your blog's sidebar to stuff tagged "me" is also helpful - when I see a really good lolita coordinate I want to see more of that person, so it's annoying if I have to scroll through tons of other junk to find their coords). Virtually every lolita is on tumblr even if they dislike parts of it, it's more private than Facebook and doesn't destroy images with compression as much. It's not necessarily the best place to get concrit, because people nearly always reblog without commenting, but you can connect with other people on there by messaging other lolitas whose style you admire (or having people message you) and you may get some concrit if you request it (although if you're really into concrit, /cgl/ nitpick threads with photos against a neutral background and your face blocked out can be handy).

It doesn't really matter if you're not that active on the platform - there are people who have tumblr blogs just for coord pics (I think victorianme's blog is like that), and it may actually be easier to get followers that way than if you post a lot of stuff other lolitas aren't interested in.

Empire waists and princess sleeves aren't exclusive to lolita fashion and Google will explain them.

Empire waists are dresses that flare out just below the bust (which, on lolita dresses designed for the petite, could end up not fitting at all and flaring out from the middle of your books instead on someone with a larger bust, also can make you look pregnant if you're not careful). Princess sleeves are kinda like bell sleeves only usually 3/4 length or half length and the bell/flare/thing is not the same size all the way round.

I did an all right job for my egl wardrobe post even with a phone camera taking all the photos in lots of natural lighting - difficult in winter (it started getting too dark at around three when I did mine), you basically have to take all the photos in the middle of the day so can only do it at weekends. Then I edited some slightly with Photobucket's in-built editor. To get a really good job you need an actual camera (if your at uni, some libraries/art departments will loan you one).

Someone on YouTube did a guide to lolita terminology/pronunciation, it was Princess Jessie-Kate I think. But that was mostly stuff like JSK and ouji, not garment construction techniques.

You don't need to change them as long as you don't fill them in excessively. Keep eyebrow make-up more natural-yet-groomed but there's no need to change the actual shape.

Probably not, just make the other one black-grey striped to match.

I was debating where to post this, but since it isn't really for sewing advice so much as actual dresses..

Can you guys show me your favourite solid-colour summery OPs?
I got 3 metres of this gorgeous 100% cotton fabric at a thrift store for $7 thinking that it'd make a nice lining, got home and realized just how nice it really is. Turns out that it's $87-a-metre Swiss linen.

I need some inspiration!

That pic is one of only a handful of BPN things I've seen that weren't just punky cutsews or blatantly more goth than lolita pieces, so I don't really miss them. That might be because I'm only buying second-hand right now though; if I ever get back into a financial situation that enables me to buy new releases again, I'm sure I'll regret the loss of one of the cheaper gothic brands.
