I'm honestly not too excited for Cinderella or Beauty and the Beast, especially since the former looks like a scene-for-scene recreation of the original. The beast had a love interest back in the day, but she was actually a golden deer forest spirit or something. The wife wants the beast to stop trying to hunt the deer (because it's her) and actually spend time with her.

You find out that the reason he is cursed is because he killed the golden deer and her dad who is some Zeus-like figure curses him. It was really fucking weird.

There were also CG beagles for some reason. I had no idea what they were for.

The Elsa, Snow White, and Ariel are perfect, though I do feel Snow could have put something more fearsome on her head rather than just the basic Snow White stuff.. The Meg looks pretty good too, but the strappy sandals kind of throw me off. I like the Jasmine but I feel like the photo isn't a flattering angle for her face.

But that Cindy and Anna. Fuck that. Anna isn't even wearing armor just...skimpy anna clothes and hideous wrinkled satin. And I have no fucking clue what that Cinderella was thinking using a tutu, those leggings do not fit her legs at all and those heels look stupid. The whole thing is imbalaced.

I think what I dislink overall about the princesses-reimagined-as-warriors thing is that instead of making some really truly badass armor inspired by the princesses and their respective time periods, they just did them up all sexy. Seriously, the only ones who should have any right to be showing their midriff are Jasmine and Ariel, and even then I wish they didn't. That's not how armor works, dammit.

For a small window of time there was a Giselle face character, there was a lot of talk on forums about how heavy her dress seemed to be, I remember that very well.
Disney actually has most of their characters actually done, but most are either for special events or private meets. I threw in a Christmas Belle, Kim Possible, Ping and Madame Butterfly as examples.

It's nice that she used pure silk, but as the other Anon pointed out earlier, they were trying to make a historically accurate costume and then used fabrics/trims that were very visibly not actually historically accurate. The dupioni is lovely, but a French aristocrat of that time period wouldn't have used such a fabric to make a ballgown as they desired a smoother fabric. I don't think the previous Anon was so much criticizing the quality as the accuracy, and I don't think that the dupioni "not being enough for a die hard disney fan" is really fair or applicable since the comment wasn't about quality or Disney at all, just history.

I think even though synthetic fabric isn't perfectly historically accurate, a higher quality synthetic can at least look right. My point about the dupioni is that even with just a glance you can look at it and tell it's wrong.

Although looking at the picture again, based on all the other anachronisms in the costume, I think now that the cosplayer isn't going for perfect accuracy anyway so it's kind of a moot point.

Not really a rule but to an extent.
Most villains are styled mascot style because of their exaggerated facial features for example; Yzma, Queen of Hearts, Bowler hat man, Cptn Hook, Frollo. Face style characters are Maleficent, Evil Queen, Dr. Facilier, Lady Tremaine and Hades who has a new style of face character similar to Jack Skellington that is half mask. I belive White Witch is a very odd exception because like Giselle both are from live action films. Similar to Jack Sparrow, Angelica and Cptn Barbossa were face characters for a short time. They don't have very long term staying power probably because they need to be comparable to real people.
On the same boat, children characters like Jake and the Neverland Pirates, Sofia the First, the cast of Meet the Robinsons, Lilo are also mascot characters too.

I think you are greatly overestimating the common cosplayer's knowledge of historical textiles. I love historical fashion but other anon's argument about slubs and imperfections is news to me. IMO most cosplayers are just looking to recreate the artwork as closely as possible (for instance most Snow Whites just slap jacquard ribbon on in place of slashed sleeves), not reproduce a 100% accurate garment. I don't think I've ever seen one that falls into that category.

Face is like the princesses, where the actor's full face is on display. Princesses, princes, the Tremaines, Fairy Godmother, Jack Sparrow
etc. are all face characters. Jack Skellington is known as partial face as the actor has a mask which covers the upper half of the face, with their own chin.

The dupioni could have been a fine choice if you set the historical accuracy part aside, and improved all the other materials, but the slubs of the dupioni paired with everything else just looks messy.

She's got a dupioni, matte silk, brocade, and whatever the fuck that wrinkly-ass shit is that she made those pleats out of. Just in the main fabrics she's got a ton of texture that doesn't really go together. Furthermore, she seems to have no concept of warm vs cool colors.
According to the photographer, she also based this on the Claire Hummel artwork, which had absolutely no red in it.
So we've got these messy choices, let's throw in cluny lace, which is not meant for formal wear, raschel lace on the fan and bodice, which is not meant for anything because that shit is hideous, and a stretch lace that looks like it's meant to sort of battenburg-like? IDFK but none of it goes together, and none of it belongs on this dress.
And let's not even get into construction or her obvious lack of proper undergarments.
Basically, she tried, and this is ~ok~ to the untrained eye, but there is a ton that needs improved.

Giselle wasn't really a face character, she was in the parade before it started (which they used to do for lots of characters, Prince Caspian was another that they did that for) but you couldn't actually meet her. It was promotion for Enchanted.
The White Witch was out for a few months when Narnia was released and I've never heard of her being out again, ever for special events. Probably because people forget that the costume exists. Heck, I met her back in the day and I forgot that she exists until it was pointed out here.
Basically Disney makes costumes for most characters around when the movie is released and most of them are never seen again. The recently did this with Hiro and Baymax which hopefully they will bring back because A LOT of people are pissed off that you can't meet Baymax anymore.
