(to the anon in the last help thread, of course)

That would be so rad, thank you. And yeah, too bad, because I'm definitely willing to pay. I'm going to try and stay under $50-75, but the problem is I'm very tall and pretty thin, so whereas my palm circumference is roughly medium (8.65in) the length of my hand/fingers is more L to XL (just barely over 8in). So when the gloves are form fitting enough, the fingers aren't long enough and constrict a bit, or when the fingers are long enough then the glove is too loose and dumb looking on my palm.

>Go to Michigan avenue or downtown in whatever state you are at

>Try before buy is better in this case than ordering online because you don't know if the leather isn't fitting right, does it need to be worn in, etc.

Hello seagulls.
I have never made any costumes or props before. I used to wear lolita and the only crafting I did was sew dresses.
For a fantasy event I want to wear these horns and I was wondering what would be te best way to attach them, before i ruin them.
they are very light and hollow on the inside also about 40 cm.
attaching them to the wig won't be an option, because I want to use them with different costumes.

Do you guys really use broadcloth or cheap cotton for cosplays? I've tried and looked at broadcloth, even in the $5 per yard range and it's still too thin. Most of the decent quality cottons I've seen were sateen (Which is at $7 per yard before coupons) for most cosplay. Ok so the final pattern needs to be a leotard with princess seams (or semi princess, can't see from pic) but no center front seam. Offhand, I can think of Kwik Sew 3273 or 2722 (you'll need to raise the back and draft sleeves or find another pattern for the sleeves) or Kwik sew 3052 (will have to shift the center front seam to the sides; not recommended if you don't have much drafting experience b/c moving the crotch will be tricky).

Forgot to add that you'll just have to draw in those side front lines on the pattern, slash along those lines, add some seam allowance to those edges, then cut and sew the pieces together. Any 4-way stretch matte vinyl/leather look fabric would look best (usually a spandex/lycra/nylon blend with possibly a thin polyurethane coating).

I've never, ever bought any fabric from JoAnn at regular price. Use coupons always. After coupons and discounts by stacking paper ones with student discount card, I usually get stuff for at least 40-60% off retail price, so $1-$3 per yard for broadcloth/quilting cotton and $5-$6 per yard for sateen/poplin/twill.

I only use JoAnn's broadcloth and quilting cotton for very small details or parts that won't get much attention or for parts that require multiple layers, which overcomes their inherent thinness.

I would really recommend going to your local fabric store and seeing some fabric for yourself. It's hard to tell what the fabric is like from the website picture (doesn't show it draped or from far away), but from the description, it sounds like it could work. However, it could be more patent looking. Some PU laminated fabric is more on the shiny side, while others look more matte and soft like upholstery leather; I would say a matte PU is better.

Pick one then. The accurate way to do it is machine embroidery, followed by hand embroidery if you have the skill. Then there's screen printing and iron-on transfer (with sheets designed for dark fabrics). Lower down would be drawing it on with fabric paint/marker, though I don't know how well white shows up against black without being absorbed into the fabric.

Papermache? My bf did a salad fingers head this way and it turned out really well; you just need to apply enough layers to get a smooth shape then sand it after. Does anyone know what kind of paint this guy used for his sword? It says gold but I'm not sure what brand he used or what he used after for the gray/metal of the sword.

I'm asking because I want to do something similar with a hilt less sword from Tokyo Ghoul.

Don't know where else to ask since /diy/ is a dead board and this is the second most "crafty" board I know of.

Could I get some opinions on this chest I made? It's for Valentine's day as you can guess. I'm planning on putting those chocolate coins inside as well as a paper that pops up upon opening that has a picture of an RPG style text bubble that says the contents of the chest.

Sorry for the non board related topic. Thanks in advance gulls.

I'm planning to cosplay some SMT4 with some friends later in the year. Right noW I'm wondering how I should do the collar-flappy cape thing. I was thinking of just having it as a seperate piece and sewing a few stitches to anchor it but I feel that It would look tacky in the end. My other option would be to "sew it in" at the collar line similar to a seifuku. I have been trying to look up capelet coat patterns online but I got nothing.

Also, I've never made something that was form-fitting before, would a knit work alright for the skirt?

I'm going to use wrobla for the skull in the middle, and armature wire with model magic segments for Leviathan so I can bend and unbend it to put him on and off. I'll have the tail end come up and connect to my head somehow and then the head end will attach on the other side. He'll wrap around my waist so he's not just hanging on my head.

She updated her Facebook profile two days ago which means she's active. She never responds, I can't get a refund...

I've never worn any kind of zentai so I need some advice.
For say a Spiderman suit, I've seen a variety of different ways of wearing it. Some have an underarmor like spandex and wear that under the zentai, I've seen people use plastic masks and wear it under the mask to give it a nicer shape, I've seen people just go commando in the zentai
What would be the best way to wear a Spiderman zentai?

Trying to do a postman cosplay. For the hat, I was thinking about maybe trying to make the hat part with fosshape and then the brim with wonderflex. Other option would be to buy like, a marching hat and modify it but I suppose I'd like to have a little more creative control, plus the brims on marching hats are a little bit smaller.
Anyways, how would I attach the wonderflex to the fosshape? Fosshape sticks to itself, perhaps I could make brim or a little version of one for the wonderflex to attach onto?

I'm stuck on what I should do here. I'm wanting to do a Zinnia cosplay and frankly, I'm pretty much built like her exactly except for my tits, which are a measly 34A, 34B on a good day.

Considering how boobless I am and how booby Zinnia is, plus the low back/helterneck element to the top, I'm not sure if it's worth me buying stick on bras and chicken fillets to fake it or if I should sew fake boobs and padding straight into the shirt, especially as I'm lazy af. I'm intending to make the shirt out of something strechy and opaque then use iron on paper for the front details, I'm just not sure what will work out better for pretending I actually have boobs for a couple hours, and how sown in padding will react to being washed.

To be honest, the boobs aren't really a huge element to the character, as far as I'm concerned. Granted, I'm a straight girl, but I didn't even notice she was busty until you pointed it out and I've played through Omega Ruby twice. Pic related, I'm not intending to put the back quite this low but it's not far off. Gonna make the shirt into a bodysuit so it's nice and tight.

I think I'm gonna cut up an old padded bra and sew the cups in then chicken fillet and fashion tape myself into the thing, unless anyone has a better idea or know of a place that sells stupid long extenders.

OK, I looked up the character this time and found the actual model. You can wear a normal bra with this, or a low-back bra if want the bow to hit the same place on your body. Just have the bow cover the bra band. I would find a way to secure the bow so it doesn't slip off and expose the band, e.g. a loop on the shirt to thread the band through or tie the bow to the band itself. I have a few shirts that are cut in the back like this and they cover my bra just fine.

Anyway, I think you are underestimating how much the cape will cover your back. Unless you plan to be standing somewhere windy all day, your cape is not going to fly up so much that your upper back will be exposed.

If you are so autistic that a little bit of showing bra is going to completely ruin your cosplay, then sure, do the extra work and sew padding into the shirt. You would wash it in the same manner that you wash all your bras. Alternatively, the padding could be inserted into pockets so you can remove them if need-be (like how you can remove the padding from some padded bras).

Plus chances are the first place I'm gonna be wearing this is at Replay in fucking Blackpool and I've yet to go there where the wind hasn't tried to blow me halfway to Ireland.

Yes, it's a little ambitious. Right off the bat I can tell that I would have the most trouble with:

It's really, really easy to make pleated skirts, knife or box pleats. Make sure you measure and mark accurately on the pattern/fabric and press all of the pleats in. Use a fabric that can hold pleats well, too. Iron once when you finish the skirt and then before each wear.

It can depend on how you're shoving your hair under your wig cap. If you're tying your hair up in a ponytail to get it all in, the hair tie and the shape of the ponytail might be pushing up your wig. I used to do that all the time when I was starting out and had long hair (cut it all off now, best idea I've ever had) and it used to give me a lumpy ass looking wig.

If you need to tie it up to tame it, french braid it and pin it to your head. Also try putting on your wigs with wet hair, that'll flatten it all down. My roomie for cons has permed long hair and she does both and it flattens down nicely, although her wig prep takes quite a long time and a lot of bobby pins (I think she says she uses around 40?).

Otherwise, you might be putting those little straps in the wig too tight and it's lifting the wig up your head. Loosen them up, and chances are your wig will begin to sit more naturally.

Then my suggestion is do one of the mcs from Pokemon or gym leaders and maybe X in the future. Transformers would require more work to put the armor together but it's not impossible if you work small. X you would need the basic fundamentals of knowing how to use Pep files, fiberglass, making a helmet and so forth with google.

Pokemon isn't that hard. Most of the stuff you can sew or find in thrift stores so just look at the Pokemon wiki for whatever trainer looks interesting. If push comes to shove just commission it or use Taobao.

Good luck anon. I'm doing Copy X myself so it's not impossible if you put your mind to it.

Working on this skirt, how should I go about making the cutouts at the bottom?

Should I cut them out carefully and fray check the edges as I go, or should I just cut them out of like white fabric and sew them on?

Or maybe I can do both and sew the white ones underneath so that nothing will fray?

They're the only ones I have available here in the color and number that I need, but I kinda feel like they might make the wings look too fluffy. I'm sure they'll be fine for the coverts, but I feel like they might look weird as flight feathers.

Pic related, left ones are for coverts, right ones would be the flight feathers. I know the colors look different, but since they're from the same company they should be the same.

I hate that most cosplayers keep the dolly animu look for her, even though it's absolutely OOC, but on the other hand I don't know how it would be possible to replicate her features without heavy makeup, thus looking too girly.

The waistband is just a long rectangle. Cut the rectangle 2x what you want the waistband width to be, plus a little extra.
With right sides together, stitch the waistband to the gathered skirt, flip up and press. Then fold over a little bit on the other side of the waist band, press, and bring that over to the other (wrong) side of the gathered fabric, essentially encasing the fabric into the waistband so the waistband is folded similar to bias tape. Stitch it down all the way around and there you go! You'll be left with the open end in the back, I suggest lining up one of the seams in the back so you can install a zipper, or look up the tutorial off FyeahLolita for partial back shirring.

It looks like they layered a bunch of craft foam to give it more depth. If you buy a sheet of insulation foam you won't have to layer so much, but you'll have a lot leftover. Fai's staff isn't that thick. Don't make it huge. Maybe if you can find a sheet that's like 3/8", but don't go any thicker than 1/2" at the very very most.

Insulation board is garbo for carving though because it's glued to the paper stuff that holds it together. It's literally just a giant piece of foam board with nicer foam inside.

>>8136246
The layers of craft foam are for the raised portion of the staff, the center piece is the size of the whole thing and the craft foam is just for the raised 'metal' parts.

I would go the resin route, but do it in several pieces so there's some movement. Like, break it at the ankle and the top of the foot where your toes bend upward when you walk. Form it artistically enough that those breaks just look like natural breaks in the ice.

I'm not making Fai's blade though. Since it's a 3D shaped moon I figured it would need to be a bit thicker than the staff in the tutorial. If the foam itself isn't very expensive, I'll buy as much as I can as post my progress to get feedback on the thickness.
