Honestly don't know why other anon recommended Tsunacon to you, there is literally nothing there.

Abunai is OK, depends on the types of cons you're used to. I personally think the events are pretty bad, and the way it's run is awful, but the location is pretty good for a hotel con.

Animecon is probably the most developped dutch con that actually has things to offer in terms of the program (like actually inviting decent music acts and have Japanese related content that isn't just run by weaboos who don't have a clue), as well as a huge stage for the shitton (slightly ridiculous) amount of cosplay competitions they have. Also Den Haag is worth going to if you're not from here because it's pretty and has good museums.

The lolita comm likes to meet new or foreign lolitas. There is a big active community near Utrecht. Most lolitas avoid the city centre of Amsterdam because it's too busy, there aren't many lolita meets over there. Nearly every Dutch lolita speaks English and a few are able to speak German. We only have a national comm but most members seem to be around Utrecht. A meet happening that's too far from Utrecht will usually be met with complaints that people have to travel too far. Not that it has ever stopped other people from going to other cities. We usually avoid Amsterdam like the plague, way too busy and packed with tourists.

That said I like to think we're pretty welcoming to foreigners and we definately don't mind speaking english. Some speak German or French as well as English.

I hope you decide to join the comm when you're staying in The Netherlands next year!

Can't there be even one Dutch thread solely about conventions and cosplay without people dragging some poorly written drama in about either some Belgian whore, terrible "professional" photography or lolita drama? Jesus fuck people...

That said, I went to Tsunacon yesterday for the first time after having only attended Abunai and Animecon for years. It was rather meh. Very little events, unclear terms about signing up for events and terrible food. I was rather hopeful about the Japanese restaurant on the 3rd floor, but the Yakitori bento and takoyaki were absolutely atrocious. The dealer room was decent. The venue still has plenty of room and attendees to grow into something better. For instance a bigger gameroom and more efficient use of rooms for events. Like using a lecture hall for karaoke or DDR with better ventilation. It would be nice as your very first animecon as a teenager that isn't able/allowed to travel to the larger conventions, but it would be terrible for the more seasoned con goers IMHO. One plus was the huge amount of people in cosplay. Despite nearly all of it being store bought, it was nice to see people getting out of their shell by wearing weeaboo clothes before returning to their shitty normalfag infested lives. That is the most important thing about it all.

I'll save my money for larger cons now. It was nice enough though at Tsunacon thanks to my friends.

Hi! Belgian Lolita here. The community is quite split between Flemish / Walloon Lolitas but that's mostly because of traveling distances it seems. We just don't really mesh together. But yeah when you go to the French part you should have no need to learn Dutch. If you want to meat the Flemish girls, overall there's a lot of Flemish girls able and willing to speak French though, some girls don't really speak it and rely on English but in general we're quite easy about languages so even if you'd come over some time to the Dutch side for meets you'll probably be fine. I don't know all that much about the Walloon comm though, maybe someone pops in with more information.

Usually whenever people post photographs taken with regular cameras taken of regular cosplayers after major cons like Animecon or Abunai, there always are some fanboys of some "professional" photographer that shit on those photos and insist that everyone should post downscaled photoshopped photos of professional cosplay, or else they throw a shitfit. I myself like raw con fotos that give me a proper impression of the con atmosphere, so that drama makes me want to punch those people in the cunt/dick/nongenderspecificorgan.

I didn't take much pictures myself this year, unfortunately. Too busy looking for things to do or to just chill. I hope that someone will post some pics.

I was at Tsuna. Yes, indeed, Tsunacon is a convention for "beginners". Dutch community was weirded out when they started selling the silver and gold tickets. In the end, some of them did go for the silver ticket, even though they were complaining. Silly Dutchies. Anyway, Tsunacon is not really something for foreigners to visit. Just visit Animecon, which is currently the most fancy looking con.

Oh, and why I am here. To report I didnt see Chris. :) Last time I saw him was at last year's Nishicon.
