Let's discuss everyone's favorite FB groups. Old thread fell off the board a few days ago.

Literally the only online comms I know of/have been apart of are Pintucks & Lace (Which is full of asspatting) and my local comm. Any recommendations or a run-down of the popular ones would be appreciated!

>> No.8108244

I really wish Lolita could be become some sort of closed fashion where one would have to become part of an officially/universally recognized comm and/or have a respected lolita mentor/sponsor in order to be recognized as a true lolita, and there would be secrets of the fashion that only true lolita are privy to, and we can be selective of who we allow to be a Lolita. Anyone who claims to be a Lolita without these requirements would not be acknowledged in the community as a whole.
If that's too extreme I just really wish all the communities were actually more selective of who we allowed to be members.

It's not like we don't try. When girls post their thriftstore or H&M dresses we try to tell them it's not rori. When girls try to ask about F+F prom dresses we try to tell them it's not rori. When girls try to ask about Nabakov we try to tell them that this rorita and that lolita is not the same. When girls post about anime lolicon we try to tell them that this rori and that lolicon is not the same either. When girls post about Chobits we try to tell them rori is not cosplay. We tell them it's not rori if they buy burando and then wear it without a blouse or petticoat. There's handbooks out there. There's mentoring comms. There are closed comms where you do indeed need to know someone to get in.

But the newbies, they're immune to this kind of advice. They will go ahead and buy all these things and put them in the lolita tag and post them to egl anyway. Then they go ahead and cry about lolitas being elitist bitches when these things are not well received.

And when they get posted in the ita thread they cry "it wasn't rori, how can it be ita?!" anyway.

It's as close to your scenario already, except for the formal stuff. Sure, lazy ass people will label themselves lolita and spam the lolita tag with rubbish, but when they turn up here or there we're pretty quick to say "that's not lolita, this isn't recognized as lolita, what is wrong with this person taking our label without being properly lolita".

If you're talking about the girl who wanted to chop up that kimono earlier...I was the one that said not to do it and told the other girl that the ita monstrosity she posted wasn't okay (which she was okay with and deleted it) I wasn't mad until that girl who isn't even a lolita yet told me that it's mean to tell someone they are wrong. I'm sorry? I've been a lolita for 8+ years. I help people out all the time. I like to think I give good advice. I'm not the most tactful at wording things sometimes...but I'm really sick of people coming in behind me and calling me mean. The girl who isn't a Lolita but who is a "fashion student" really ticked me off too. I get that fashions evolve and that things change...but there are some things that will always look bad and never be lolita. Just telling people to do whatever they want is the worst answer possible.

If you're Joanna, you may want to chill a little bit...you started off by saying the dress was "seriously awful" The kimono itself was a lovely kimono, it just wasn't suitable for lolita. I'm not saying I don't agree with you, I didn't say anything because you pretty much covered the bases, but those girls just aren't ready for someone that blunt. If you want them to actually take your advice, you have to word things in a both honest and delicate way Honeyed words, honey.

Same goes for the blouse and wristcuffs too, I think it's too much pink for how little it's used in the actual print, though the pink rings can stay IMO.

Caucasian isn't even correct, really, since that refers to groups of people who have ancestry from the Caucasus mountains, aka, almost "middle eastern" but not quite (Turkey, Georgia, Azerbaijan). You know, those people who aren't even considered white anymore, but aren't demonized enough to be considered the umbrella term "Arabs".

>> No.8123773

Neither is "African American" or "Hispanic" but they're an easy way to identify a larger group of people. No one is being specific here. And none of those terms have a negative and painful historical context. If I meet someone and they tell me how they would like for me to refer to them, I'll call them as such.

By that logic, all ethnic wig shops should be shut down, or is that "not racist" just because they're typically black or hispanic owned?

But hey, if these people are going to be playing ethics police then I guess they won't be buying their discount kawaii shit that comes from China from ebay or taobao anymore. Cause, y'know, bad employee treatment + no consideration for the environment.
