Hi /cgl/. Over the years, I've had this dream of making full suit mascot costumes. Not the furry suit type of costumes, but more like this.
The thing is, I have no idea how.
So Mascot thread I guess.

I've made a few mascot cosplays and it's hard, of course no where near professional quality like the ones you posted but dang what I'd give just to buy >>8077392 and >>8077424 without it looking like some knock-off. I want to know how it looks like on the inside, like is the big mascot head supported on some helmet attached to it so it can move with the wearer? Is the guy wearing Rilakkuma really short or are they actually taller and their elbows are around the mascot's shoulder height? The things I wonder.

On a similiar note, I remember some anon mentioned in an old thread that a lot of the big rigid shapes are made up of a light and durable plastic shell, then covered in foam and fabric.

Pretty sure that the Rilakkuma costume is meant to be worn by someone short, maybe around 5'.

Heya Anon I work for a mascot company though I mainly make the heads for them. Now the Japanese may have their on way of doing them but for heads that big my Company would make them out of plastazote which is a similar material to what camping mats are made of. You make a dome or oval and features can either be stuck on before or after covering the head. You can pattern heads like you would for the costumes themselves. Some mascots the whole body would be made of plastazote and have thin pipe supports to help keep its shape.

For helmets we use a plastazote helmet that uses pipe lagging as a bung to stick it in the head. The helmets would have 3 bungs; one on top and 2 on the back for support.
