Since there seems to be a lot of discussion on the topic of late, how about a petticoat thread?

Reviews, recommendations and customer service experiences welcome. "Which petticoat would look best with this dress" also welcome.

>> No.8072663

I want a very modest petti A line for otome or casual lolita because i can't stand having a big poof and bodyline pettis are shitty. Also cheap price please. I feel my petti give is a bit unconfortable since i modified it to make it shorter and less poofy.

How high do you wear a petti? Aside from the obvious answer of so high or low that it looks right.

malco modes!

I just bought their "jennifer" petti, it arrived yesterday. It's lovely and super soft, as well as a nice, modest poof. I love it and can't wait to use it.

>> No.8072688

Is that one bodyline petti one of the best now? I saw somebody compare it to two layered CLassical puppets petticoats and it was still poofier.

Anyone have a good recommendation for a tea-length petti? I know there's a Malco Modes one out there but I hear it's a bit short for tea-length and dresses drape awkwardly as a result.

If it's a normal waist JSK I sit it where the waist on the JSK starts. If it's a high waisted jsk / AP mumu I sit it as low as possible. I find it when I put it on my normal waist I look kinda chubs/pregnant.

I can totally vouch for the Malco Modes Jennifer petti. I love how soft it is and the fact that there are two channels for the elastic band so you can make the petti shorter/longer depending on the dress. Highly recommend.

>>8073021
Lol too high? What's your budget then?
I honestly wouldn't recommend skimping on your petticoat purchase, btw. If you buy a shitty one it's not going to be poofy or it will deflate and you'll end up having to stack shitty pettis on top of each other to even get good poof.

Classical Puppets have one, or choose any rockabilly store ever or a long square dancing one? Hell Bunny make one for their rockabilly dresses, but there are any number of people on ebay selling longer pettis particularly if you're in the states.

>>8072663
You basically want a single-layer A-line with a lining. Classical puppets daily A-line, Florawedding on ebay...you could also ask the girl at melikestea since she only charges $17 + shipping for a 4-layer petticoat, she might do you a super good deal on a single-layer one.

>>8073097
I own one. I did a full review on it, but feel really weird linking myself. So have a photo!

>>8073131
A line - try victoriangirldress if you are on a tight budget.

>>8073083
Anything bell-shaped. My favourite bell shaped petti is my Bunny House one, but BasicLove on etsy (fluffymei on LJ), classical puppets, melikestea, and pinning up a square dancing petticoat are all other options.

>>8073150
Depends on where you are. None of the second-hand malco modes sellers generally ship to my country, and even if they did it'd probably cost me the price again in shipping. But if you're US based there's usually a number of square dancing (Sam's, Malco Modes, etc.) pettis in the $20-$30 range, and in my opinion for an A-line petti they're much better than what you'll get from Classical Puppets.

>> No.8073432

>>8073408
Because of the layers, Bunny House. I think they're more consistent than CP when it comes to lots of layers. If you don't mind netting petticoats, I would also consider melikestea PT-06 or PT-07 as they are more of an in-between A-line and bell shape, and some of the dresses you have would suit an A-line shape much more/risk looking overstuffed with a bell shape, particularly the one third from the right on the top row. The alternative might be to buy both an A-line and bell shape and layer as necessary.

>Do you think classic puppets is the best best? Also if I wanted very larger bell shape poof, would it be enough?
No. I am of the opinion that their quality is inconsistent (every single one I have owned has ripped along seam lines) although their A-line petticoat prices compare favourably to square dancing petticoats. Their bell shape is more of a medium poof under heavy dresses, and will only give a nice cupcake shape under lightweight dresses.

>Any suggestions?
Bunny House XL, or get any of the light-medium poof bell shaped pettis (CP, Basic Love, Melikestea) and prepare to layer. I'm preparing to need to layer my Bunny House one, although it's not doing as badly as my CP one was at this stage...

>Would any of the melikestea be considered bell shape? because PT12 seems like it could be, and if so recommendations?
I have personally owned PT-05, -06, and -10 and one of my friends used to have PT-08. Of those, PT-10 is the most bell-shaped (but very much a light poof petti which deflates easily) and I suspect PT-12 is basically the same but a little bit longer. PT-06 is more an A-line to be honest and you will have to layer if you want an A-line shape.

is still around I just messaged Tai from melikestea about a custom order combining their 'poof monster' petti (PT-05) and one of their bell shaped ones (PT-10) - she can do them and has done a combo with PT-05 and PT-09 (pictured) which was apparently nearly too poofy for the person she sent it to...anyway, it's the same price as Bunny House as the combo is slightly cheaper than purchasing separately ($40/R$105 as opposed to $45/R$120)

What's the best way to store petticoats? I have mine upside down over the top of the hanger, but I heard that isn't the best way to do it? Also, I'm moving to a new house with a much smaller closet so I'd appreciate something that doesn't take up as much room.

I'm not sure how to do that. I didn't use an agent, just bought from the store directly.

This anon again: Do you guys think either the daily a-line in organza or voile from melikestea or the medium size from bunny house would be okay?

I just shove mine in a drawer. If it can't survive that it wasn't poofy enough to start with.

>>8091980
Melikestea is probably going to be less poofy than bunny house, get it in organza not voile. Medium from BH can still be pretty big.

top: awesome advice.

Has anyone have experience on rockabilly pettis. Tumblr says no rocakabilly pettis, however no other petti is long enough for me and a-line for a classic-sweet lolita.

I need opinion on yah to rock or nah to rock

Tumblr doesn't know shit. Rockabilly petti can be rolled/tucked up for more of a bell or left long for A-line.

Thanks! I think I will get the bunny house one.

Does anyone know what weight of a skirt is considered 'heavy'? I got my first piece recently and I'm looking at petticoats. It's actually too large length-wise for me and I could have gone down a size as well (I was more paranoid about it being too large than too small) and since I'm short I'd like to give the skirt enough poof that it will sit juuust above my knees. Otherwise I look like a gremlin and there are a lot of outdoor meets at my com, so I can't just wear heels all the time unfortunately.

>tl;dr
what weight makes a skirt 'heavy'?
how to lift skirt above knee length

I'd say velveteen and gobelin fabrics are the "heavy" ones.

Just roll the waistband up if your petticoat is too long.
