Hola seagulls!

I thought you could find me a solution. I'm not really fat but I have a huge belly and it looks riddiculus when I cosplay and I couldn't find a good corset for it, most of them are good for shaping your butt but I don't have much of a booty, I just want to hide my gut. do you have any magical suggestions except for exercising?

>> No.8055403

>corsets good for shaping your butt but not your waistline
OP I'm so confused. Are you sure you're wearing it properly?

>> No.8055407

Corsets won't make stomach bulge go away. They just take in the waist. Plus, they'll definitely be visible under clothing. If you want compression , go for Spanx. Also, diet or exercise would be good if your waist measurement is large (I think over 35" is the usual medical cutoff). This is not only for cosmetic reasons but because too much fat concentrated around the midsection is not for the organs.

boned corsets do the job but it's really hard to breathe and move in them. elastic fabric ones do pretty much nothing.

I've never tried spanx (they're not available in my country) but if it really works I might try, but if it's same as the other elastic fabric fabric crap it would be huge waste.

is it impossible to make it look invisible under the clothes?

>> No.8056323

OP, corsets will push the flesh around the gut up into the bust area and down around your waist and rear. Since you aren't bottom heavy, it will probably be a great solution for you.
Since it doesn't sound like you need a ton of reduction, an off the rack corset from Orchard corset should be just fine. Their higher end corsets only run about $80, and they are made well and with good quality materials. A corsetier will run you way more than that, so if you aren't rolling in the dough or planning on wearing it every day then it's kind of pointless to spend that much.
Go with a shorter underbust corset. They're much easier to move around and sit in to start with. Less pressure on the hips.

>> No.8056324

>>8055976
Yeah, you're definitely not wearing a corset that fits. I have an underbust that reduces my waist by 4" and I've worn it under my scrubs for a full 12 hour shift, including lifting/transferring patients and doing CPR. I wouldn't do that in summer though!

Fit doesn't have to depend on the brand, it depends on your measurements, how curvy you are, how much squish you have and things like torso length etc. There's a corset measurement thing on her website, and there are some corsetieres that will do custom via long distance as long as you measure yourself properly

You can waist train with an overbust - it's just that they're harder to fit than underbusts because of boob and upper ribcage variability, so it is less likely an off the rack, non-custom overbust corset will be suitable for waist training.

You can't waist train in an overbust, anon. You have less mobility, and they compress too much of your ribcage to make them safe for prolonged wear, aka waist training. Underbusts and waspies are the way to go.

You can, but it has to fit well i.e. basically always gonna have to be custom made. Ribcage compression is only an issue if the fit is wrong. As for limited mobility, that depends on the corset itself. If it's not super high cut at the back and there's sensible boning, there's not much more restriction on movement than underbust + wearing a bra

>> No.8059616

>>8058415
Yes but expensive. Although suited for tight lacing they aren't really that suited for waist training - the strength fabric doubles as the lining and is a coarser twill weave which has some stretch to it, not the herringbone coutil that I've previously seen used. I took my old Laurie apart to insert ribcage gores and I can definitely see why they don't market them as for waist training as they aren't really constructed to stand up to that - it doesn't mean that the construction is poor, it's just not intended for that particular purpose. For example, the seams are just sewn and pressed open with quite a long stitch length as opposed to pressed to one side and the 'waist tape' is just satin ribbon.

If it is uncomfortable while you are sitting, then it may be too long for you. You can order custom stuff online if you need to, but if it is a torso issue it can be solved through buying otr that are cut a bit higher on the hip. Do measure the length of your torso to see if you are shorter than average there.

Even for a talented seamstress, making a functional corset is serious business, especially if you want one you can tightlace down like that with. Also, the materials needed would have to be a bit more than steels or fabric lying around. That's why they cost so damn much. I've made attempts at bustiers myself...

These corsets are a fraction of the normal price for that kind of quality but as an anon classed as living in 'poverty' I feel you on not wanting to spend. Yeah, I think I know what I'm getting myself in for and I actually have quite a lot of the stuff I need - the only purchase would be coutil, which someone I know locally is selling for half the usual price because she's having a craft room clearout.(hence why I'm even considering it as an option!) It would be one of those 'projects to go over 6 months or so' as this would be my third attempt at sewing one but first proper attempt with decent materials - my last go was with duck and I didn't like the stretch on it at all. I'd be looking at a short underbust in two layers of coutil with 1/4" flat steel. Hopefully if I do the boning channels right there won't be any twisty curves requiring spirals, no busk - so either front + back lacing or just lacing myself in depending on how much I hate the grommets. Thankfully I have decent two-piece grommets around as well and enough scrap fabric that I could probably manage some sort of shitty mockup, even if said mockup will stretch a lot more than the final I'll hopefully be able to identify any major fitting issues.

Definitely based off it! I love the shape it gives me, but because I can close it, the boning by the laces sometimes presses weirdly on my spinal muscles. I think the strength layer is twill rather than coutil, so it has stretched a bit as well. I basically want the same shape, but with coutil and flats this will be stiffer. I'm also thinking a 2" lacing gap and 2" shorter for ease of bra and trouser wearing. The Josephine has spirals so I'm not going to be able to follow the same boning pattern, what I might do is put it on and see where the bones would have to be to be straight as opposed to guesstimating. I was also considering pre curving/bending the flats because my ribcage hates pressure, but sewcurvy considers that a huge no and I think with 1/4" steels/a short cincher it shouldn't be necessary....hopefully. If I end up attempting this I'll post, but my current new years resolution is to finish up my seeing pile which includes some projects that have been languishing for over a year
