It's in a few weeks. Anyone still go to this?

>> No.8047662

Gosh I'm so pissed Bemani Invasion (now Tokyo Attack) won't be there. They announced it on facebook about a week ago.

Either way got my cosplays done and will have fun with friends in the crowd of teenagers.

>> No.8047875

Going to be there and wearing lolita only on Saturday. I'm preparing the lolita meetup at a restaurant after Lolita Crush that same day. There's a few indie brands that will be in the AA this year. Voodooodolly, Paradise Rose, and Elegy. It's nice to see more variety.

Also watch out for drunks Friday and Saturday evenings. The convention center is holding the Winter Beerfest.

>> No.8047878

It's always hit or miss for me, but I'm looking forward to it.

I'm entering the masquerade this year. I've heard good and bad things about it. Anyone have any experience with it?

I'm going with the same group I went with last year.

Are we planning on having a /cgl/ meetup at all?

>> No.8047991

Yes, I am planning that too. We're having it at the Crowne Plaza bar Friday night at 9pm.

Apparently the folks at 4x2chan are planning to raid this meetup so heads up.

I will show up. I know Siggy is coming this year.

>> No.8049070

>>8049009
I show up every year. I think people have a hard time finding others in that place. I know someone usually has the seagull sign but it's on a stick and I doubt anyone wants to hold it up and wave it around forever.

Would anyone mind if I made a sign to tape along the outside of one of the tables? That way people walking by can see and it can give everyone's arms a break?

>> No.8050255

I've been going since 2011 for the whole weekend, but this year I'm only going Saturday because ngl Ohayocon's gone to shit. Only going to see friends pretty much.

>> No.8050314

I'll be going with my anime club (Vice Pres, nearby university if anyone there happens to browse here) from previous obligation, Ohayocon has gotten worse in each passing year and my significant other won't be there so I'm mostly just going there to enjoy the being-around-fellow-weeaboos feels.

My cosplay is going to be Kaguya Houraisan from Touhou - which, it even seems the Touhou panel won't be up this year. I'm not even done with the cosplay and dealing with a stream of poverty...

I agree. I said I wouldn't go this year, but my family has grown to love it and they're paying my way. I just... don't have any interest in the con anymore. And knowing there's a beerfest at the same time makes it worse. I was harassed several times Saturday night, including cornered into a stairwell and licked by a group of high as fuck normies. Last year's programming seemed like it was looking up, but the people and staff are just so shitty.

>> No.8051011

Oh it's also worth noting that last year, all the staff photographers actually covered the rave instead of the cosplay contest. I have not found any pro photos from the event. I don't think there was video taken either. Cos staff was very rude too.

Not defending him, he sounds like a spastic asshole and is probably a closet racist, but IMO there really is a difference between dressing as a basic German soldier and an actual 'Nazi' as in an SS uniform. Especially if it's for legitimate historical reenactment. And it's not like there aren't plenty of fuck heads who DO dress in hardcore Nazi outfits because they're 'History Enthusiasts' so really this is pretty tame. He's dressed as somebody who was getting shot at in the woods, not the guy who was torturing children. But regardless he seems like an asshole.

I hate the very idea of it. I'm an adult going to a convention not a 14 year old at a waterpark. It's all about managing and corralling people. Not to mention at the door people not getting badges now, and security being dicks. It interferes with costumes, they look awful, they're comfortable. I don't know what else you want. And when you pair that with constantly shittier service, poor staff, poor programming... What do you expect? Not to mention the guests are a joke, I barely even look at them because they're so shitty. Wristbands were like a straw that broke the camel's back for me.

I honestly can't remember the last time I heard "Wow thanks Ohayocon staff for your good work doing (anything!)" I think my favorite story from last year was Cosplay staff. We're upstairs waiting for the contest, and the woman told us "LISTEN EVERYONE, JUST SO YOU KNOW, THIS IS YOUR BREAK. THERE IS WATER IN THE BACK. THIS WAS YOUR WARNING. IF ANY OF YOU FEEL ILL, OR PASS OUT, I DON'T CARE AND YOU WILL BE DISQUALIFIED." Several cosplayers went in the back to realize that the water coolers were totally empty.

Never said 'ruined'. I said they interfere (physically, it is hard to work around them. Last year I had gloves with hard cuffs that covered my wrists that had to be removed/replaced every time I needed to show band.) - they still don't look good, for people who cosplay and want to photoshoot at the con, and they are uncomfortable. You can't deny any of that because it's not wrong. It seems like every year Ohayocon slides shittier and shittier. This is one of the ways. It is not the biggest and it is not the worst but it is a way.

>> No.8060240

>>8060202
I can deny the uncomfortable thing, but that may be subjective since those kinds of bands have never bothered me (which btw are plastic which all the fags on th fb page going "waah how will we shower!?!?" seemed to fail to understand) but you're right about the photoshoot unsightliness.

I squeezed mine off when I wanted to but didn't have anything annoying one costume to get it around, and won't this year either, so yay I guess.

The part that amuses me about the wristbands is that Colossalcon has waterpark wristbands and now they offer wristbands for people over 18. It's the exact same thing, but different intentions, but no one complains about them being "inconvenient" and it's not even that hard to photoshop them out after a photoshoot.

The only reason people are upset about the wristbands has nothing to do with the wristbands themselves, but the fact that people feel babied, or are bitter about how poorly and abruptly they were presented in their first year they came into use. It doesn't help that Ohayocon's security is notorious for being hawks with superiority complexes, so the wristbands just add to that feeling of being controlled.

Those wristbands are optional. I always attach my waterpark one so it's just a little bit loose and I can wiggle out of it when I want to go back over the weekend. 18+ it just makes it easier to get in the door to adult events without showing an ID.

I didn't mind Ohayo's last year because you could attach it to your badge lanyard. I usually just wrap that around my purse strap. I hope that will at least stay in place. What made this con go to shit, you think?

I went in middle school (mid-2000's) which is when it still had AA fanart and was much less crowded. But then I went back two years ago to find it doubled in size.

What happened, what made it so that it got so big? Is the sheer over crowding the cause of how crappy its become? Or something else like management?

Also personally I like the no ghosting rule since maybe it will create some population control.

>> No.8069419

Its a combination of things. The well organized/old guard staffers have left, the con has grown and Ohayo won't(or can't) rent out the larger rooms.
They also seem like they don't care about getting new guests. I'm surprised theres a musical act tbh.

>> No.8069431

I think it's a combination of that and the venue. Other larger cons have grounds for taking lots of pictures and good weather and space for hanging out outside. I really hate all the hallway sitting that happens during the con. But I'll go anyway this year because I already got a room and friends going. I might not go back next year.

>> No.8069441

Current con chair doesn't give a shit about the fandom and takes home a large chunk of the profits as his salary. So less money is invested into the actual con. I have no problem seeing people get some money from the con, so long as money is going back and improvements are being made, good guests are coming out and what not. Ah, that's cool. I've been looking for info, but I guess I'm not in the groups so I haven't seen anything.

I'm wavering a bit. I can't make it up to the con Friday night so I'd have to get through registration Saturday morning somehow before 10am, and I've no idea if that's even possible considering the wait times I've seen at various cons (and that I'm coming down from Cleveland that morning). I guess I'm wavering a bit whether to go, really, as $40 to go to one event is a bit steep. I haven't been to Ohayocon since 2010. How's Ohayocon in general and lolita crush specifically been in past years?

Lolita Crush will be better this year. We're going to have a lot more input from the community compared to previous years.

Also you don't have to buy a badge to go to the restaurant meet. Of course the attire is to wear lolita. ;)

Yeah you'll mostly be free from the elements, but it IS still cold in the walkway. Like you'll only be in there for a minute probably if you're just walking to the convention center and it's certainly not as bad as braving a C-Bus winter storm in frills and heels

Most people are a variety of sweet and classic with a few people who wear gothic. AP is popular, as is IW, Baby. etc as far as Japanese brands go, I'd say AP is probably the most popular but I think most everyone has a variety from different brands. I'll likely be wearing Toy March in brown on Saturday.

It has become a huge, three-day party for "nerd culture." It's still a great time, but the meaning and message has significantly changed. Matsuricon during the summer is more of a true anime con.
