Can be millapoo lace monsters, bad bodyline, or burando gone wrong. Even with the lack of royal purple in lolita, I can't stand this dress. The bodice is hideous and it looks like something I'd pick up at Downtown Disney.

I think the bodice would be so much better if it didn't have the ribbon lacing and the straps didn't swoop in weirdly like that, instead having the chiffon go all the way across the chest. I personally prefer the other JSK, it's on my wish list.

It's not the cut to me as much as it is the print. I liked what Haenuli did with their Beauty and the Beast print where they put the characters on there without faces and major distinguishing characteristics. Looked less like merch. This print just cpasted the characters on there and it looks like a binder cover.

The chiffon bit on the bodice looks like a moustache.

Maybe it's because I haven't seen it in person, so I'm missing out on some really lush detailing; maybe I just get buttflustered about popular pieces selling for ridic amounts; maybe my taste is just shit. In any case, I just do not get the hype over Lotta at all. It looks low quality and the design is unbalanced (the border print looks really disjointed with the rest of the dress).

Really dislike AP's new Celestial series, particularly the pieces with the full, sheer overskirts. It takes a busy pattern and either washes it out or makes it look dingy. I grit my teeth every time I see it because it just looks dirty or like the print ran.

It's not really about the resale value of the original, in this case. Oo Jia made the print highly accessible and it became extremely popular among newbies who wanted to own something popular but didn't know how to coordinate it nicely. When you think about it, it's a pretty crappy and entitled mentality to have. People get emotionally attached to stuff for whatever reason and then they get upset or angry when they think someone else who has that stuff doesn't appreciate it "properly". I don't actually hate replicas, however. (Hello, unpopular lolita opinion.) The issue isn't replicas. The issue is the quality of people who buy them. You can coord replica well and you can wear the real deal shitty. The problem with Chess Chocolate specifically is that it's such a common replica that the print has a bad rep. Even if someone is wearing it nicely, regardless of if its the real deal or not, people get shitty about it, which makes good lolitas not want to wear it at all.

Self-admitting here. Not the most eloquent piece of commentary I've posted on /cgl/ and yeah, it is a crappy mentality to have. Unfortunately, I'm not the only person to have it. The reason I feel as strongly as I do is because I've been picked on for wearing Chess Chocolate simply for wearing Chess Chocolate. And based on what's said on here, egl, and elsewhere, you can't call the hate an isolated incident. It's left me pretty bitter about the dress, but I can't let go of it because I genuinely do love it. That's a home decor fabric, and those are higher quality and pricier than the cheapo quilting cotton most people use. They carry some more decent lace now, but it's still way overpriced compared to what you can get online (like $8-10/yd for wide venise).

Yeah, there are a lot of bad cupcake fabrics out there, but this one is like the official "newbie seamstress looking for kawaii fabric" print. The cupcakes look like weird little bullets or something.
Pic-related is kinda tacky too but at least the cupcakes look like actual food.

Was there ever a version of this in straight up cream, not just offwhite? I feel like I've seen it, but lolibrary shows nothing, so maybe it was just a bad photo?

I initially hated it, specifically because of the asymmetrical cut, but it grew on me so much during the years I'm sort of considering it as my wedding dress now... Except I look AWFUL in white. Though I noticed they introduced a lovely ivory shade as a partial color this year, so maybe there will be a full one in 2015?

I'm not really a lolita myself, and my sister's JSK that has shirring does not have lacing over it and I don't often see dresses with lacing over shirring, just shirring by itself or lacing with a regular panel underneath.

I think it's just one of those pieces that got ruined by the shitty replicas that it spawned. Also there's something about the side parting that throws me off. Bertille has a similar design except the part is centered and imo it looks way better.
