8016044 No.8016044 [Reply] [Original]

Can be millapoo lace monsters, bad bodyline, or burando gone wrong. Even with the lack of royal purple in lolita, I can't stand this dress. The bodice is hideous and it looks like something I'd pick up at Downtown Disney.

>> No.8016053

>>8016044
I think the bodice would be so much better if it didn't have the ribbon lacing and the straps didn't swoop in weirdly like that, instead having the chiffon go all the way across the chest. I personally prefer the other JSK, it's on my wish list.

It's not the cut to me as much as it is the print. I liked what Haenuli did with their Beauty and the Beast print where they put the characters on there without faces and major distinguishing characteristics. Looked less like merch. This print just cpasted the characters on there and it looks like a binder cover.

The chiffon bit on the bodice looks like a moustache.

Maybe it's because I haven't seen it in person, so I'm missing out on some really lush detailing; maybe I just get buttflustered about popular pieces selling for ridic amounts; maybe my taste is just shit. In any case, I just do not get the hype over Lotta at all. It looks low quality and the design is unbalanced (the border print looks really disjointed with the rest of the dress).

When you think about it, it's a pretty crappy and entitled mentality to have. People get emotionally attached to stuff for whatever reason and then they get upset or angry when they think someone else who has that stuff doesn't appreciate it "properly". It could be absolutely anything...a cute print, an attractive facial feature, a great job, a healthy relationship, anything. It's something that all people struggle with to some degree, I think...it's just a lot more obvious in hobbies like lolita and it makes us seem really cunty to outsiders lol.
I'm not saying this to pick on this particular anon, but this comment is a really good example of what I'm talking about >>8019038 . I feel like they have a good reason to be emotionally attached to the item in their closet because it's their only brand dress, but to feel like the print is "ruined" because of "fucking fatties" is a little much.

THIS. AGREED.

I don't actually hate replicas, however. (Hello, unpopular lolita opinion.) The issue isn't replicas. The issue is the quality of people who buy them. You can coord replica well and you can wear the real deal shitty. The problem with Chess Chocolate specifically is that it's such a common replica that the print has a bad rep. Even if someone is wearing it nicely, regardless of if its the real deal or not, people get shitty about it, which makes good lolitas not want to wear it at all.

That could be, I can see it. I have 2 prints that jia has made replicas of and it doesn't bother me very much because they and their wearers ususlly look so bad and I have a decent smount of other brand. I bought DDC, knowing full well there would be a replica of it, people would clamor for it. The replicas look pretty sad.
I think people are crazy to pay the prices she charges for what they get. I have really pretty offbrand things that put her stuff to shame and no one who knows the prints is fooled by her replicas. It's a shame she didn't continue on to develop origininal prints or make unprinted customs and quit replicas but oh well...

If you know the person wearing it has coordinated it badly, then how does that affect what you think of the print itself? Or is it more about what people would think if you wore it? It's like music- a song doesn't suddenly become bad because someone fucked it up at karaoke.

Self-admitting here. Not the most eloquent piece of commentary I've posted on /cgl/ and yeah, it is a crappy mentality to have. Unfortunately, I'm not the only person to have it. The reason I feel as strongly as I do is because I've been picked on for wearing Chess Chocolate simply for wearing Chess Chocolate. And based on what's said on here, egl, and elsewhere, you can't call the hate an isolated incident. It's left me pretty bitter about the dress, but I can't let go of it because I genuinely do love it. And I don't really want to sell it either because I fear it won't go to a good home for the exact reason that people hate it: people wearing it poorly. I respect my fashion and I dislike seeing it disrespected.

tl;dr agree with you about the crappy mentality thing. lolita community in general is bitchy b/c, yeah, we're all a little elitist, and, well, there's not too much that can be done about it. welcome to the egl life.

For me, it's almost a Pavlovian response to see the print and cringe because I expect to see it coordinated poorly after being disappointed so many times. that cross spelled out with pearls looks like some artistic thing a little kid would do with dried peas

Virtually every dress and skirt from Baby, AP, Metamorphose and IW that has shirring also has ribbon lacing. Baby and AP are notorious for looping their ribbon lacing through openwork lace, resulting in damaged lace, so many people remove the ribbons to prevent that from happening.

Kitten nesting dolls... that red, white, and blue color scheme...

Why do I want it so badly? Fuck it, this is why I don't wear Lolita.

I would buy that as a skirt and wear it casually (not as lolita). But in terms of lolita, I'm right there with you on the why.

It's a shame I love this print sooo much, but I didn't like the JSK cut at all so I passed. I hate that it isn't better! lol

that looks like a carnival vendor's outfit complete with bowtie from a distance
that'd be a much cuter dress

I'm deeply ashamed to admit that I like the blue. I would never wear it myself but I think its a fun little weird dress.
I like the other corways too.

I thought this dress's artwork was just tacky. I don't really get the 'Slap on images from a popular movie' thing. Like, Snow white, Secret garden and red riding hood where examples of how it has been done tastefully, but this print just screams gimic, and it annoys me more than it should.

I only get snapped in casual clothes and I feel weird asking people to take photos if I'm just going shopping, but yeah i like wearing frills to do mundane things and would love a parody of 'One Day I Went to Lidl' in loli now....

I really liked this in the red color way actually. It was less loud.

I will never understand the appeal of this dress.

I like it but I associate it with stolen images and shitty replicas.
Well, sweetheart necklines are a little awkward.

I liked this a lot in the brown colour-way for the cute babushka kitties but I don't understand the whipped cream element. I still want it though.

If you want to keep velvet smelling nice, you can try hanging those little scent bags you can buy for your lingerie drawers on the same hanger. It's always worked for me!

I think it's just one of those pieces that got ruined by the shitty replicas that it spawned. Also there's something about the side parting that throws me off. Bertille has a similar design except the part is centered and imo it looks way better.

I agree but it's not just the replicas, it's the design I don't like. If it didn't have the bottom ruffle and the sweetheart neckline, I'd probably like it.
I also find Bertille OP a bit weird. I'm not saying that I hate it, but it looks like it's backwards to me.

>If it didn't have the bottom ruffle and the sweetheart neckline, I'd probably like it.
but then it would have no distinguishing features at all?

I honestly love this dress in white. I recently bought some white accessories to go with another dress for a temporary coord, but they would go lovely with this dress and wouldn't go to waste once I buy what I want for a permanent coord. I just wish it wasn't $500.

I'm kind of disappointed that this kind of stuff is most of what AP has been releasing as of late. It's just too much.

Agreed. It just reminds me of the ugly punk lolita stuff that bodyline sells.
