It depends on how good the larp is. Armour, housewares (cooking equipment, lighting, hasps, sneck hooks etc), personal adornments (buckles, brooches, etc), eating and camp tools... Pic related: A simple heart-figure belt buckle. This alone will help you practice peening, hard curves and forge welding, and people love them.

If they are just a foam fighting game, not so much, but real larps always can use kit.

went to the gauls christmas party.

it was in costume but after some drinking it turned into a improvised nigth of singing 80' and 90' song , surprising breakdance, the best timing for hotdogs ever.

I also fell face first into the snow while drunk because i tougth it was a good idea to push someone pissing in the snow and i ran back to the tavern , sliped and fell face first in the snow... my only words to my friend were...AVENGE ME! before crawling like a peasant trying to get away from Sire Yves-Jaques

i also switched costume with a lansquenet , frenchkissed 4 dudes and 2 womens under the mistletoe (joke will be lost in translation because we called the mistletoe ''Gui'' and there was a printed photo of one of the guys called Guy ( french name pronounced Gee) )

I also recruited some people for the cult of Slaaneesh next year.

First and foremost, don't think of "character class". Hell, don't even think of "job". Think of the character themself. Rodrigo is *Spanish ripoff race", who is very superstitious, and is a soldier who just came back from a campaign in the norther barbarian lands, gaining renown and trophies.

This will influence his dress, his manners, and the items on his person, making him much more "real" and less generic. Get it?

The most important part of the spear is the ability to thrust with it ( or else why have a spear?) and some larp are really strict about them.

If i had more extra money i'd get one of calimacil's telescopic spear (they collapse a little when you hit someone so it doesnt hurt as much) but i really like my current spear, it's a little bit heavier than most of the spears but that way it doesnt bent and i can easily use it for pushing shields aside before smashing it on people chest

What country do you live in? If you live America, you're going to have to do a LOT of reasearch and dig deep to find a decent LARP, because the vast, VAST majority of LARPs in America are low-effort and low-quality and give the hobby a bad name, forcing the few decent ones to keep a low profile.

If you're in Europe (or also Quebec, from what I've heard), things are a LOT better.

It's roughly 1000 km.
I can't recall excatly how much did it cost but the train trip was the more expensive for various reasons (with the car there were four of us, with the train there was only me and a girl) and that train tickets only were somewhere around 300 euro I think... not sure.
and while the whole thing wasn't cheap I wouldn't call it a sacrifice. Totally worth it both times.

although I also went to Croatia several times for larps but they are in the "neighborhood" so there is that.
And next week I will go to Poland to a larp conference, that will be only 500 km and just a 4 day conference, not a larp, so I don't know if it counts or not

looks good.

I kinda like calimacils for how tigth they are (not oversized blades and all that) . but yeah they are pretty hard , it will eventually soften up but will still stay pretty hard compared to latex.

Also i'll update you on somethng some friends are doing rigth now.

They are making a lot of prototypes since last spring and are testing them in heavy battle (our bi monthly sunday trainings wich are pretty hard on weapons).

It gives a really good looking blade for 1/3 of the price of latex , the only problem is they always need to tweak it a little bit until it reach ''perfection''

(also, the Quebec battle of the nation team was training just before us and i talked with one of them and he saw us begint the training and got curious and wanted to try, we gave him a sword and shield and he loved it, result...the botn team is now training with foam with us huh)

Working on my visby gauntlets. Cut out/filed edges of some plates with my dad before realising I should dye the leather gloves, suede I think, that I'm riveting onto. How would I go about dying them a pale green to contrast with the dark red of my surgeon's apron.

Speaking of which, novice me tried red food dye for creating the splatter, but it turned out pink on my calico apron, I've washed it, what's a better way of getting a darker, gore splattered look? I've heard of using chocolate with red and a hint of blue food dye, surely there's a better way than that?

Another thing, what color should I make my robes/trousers out of? Should I keep up the pale green, or go for a brown/grey mid tone? Would it help to mention my nearly finished gambeson's slightly bluish black?

Lastly, regarding my gambeson, it just needs some method of fastening. What would be acceptable, using lacing like pic related, 'shoelace' lacing at each pair like I think I saw some pictures, or using hooks and eyes?

I'll post pics when done. I've been kinda wondering if I should trip or not due to straya's lack of representation in the threads, but I've kinda been really indecisive about what I want, I've been that guy mulling over english to irish to german to polish to russian kit over periods from classical to renaissance, and whether I should bother due to being an orc. Currently thinking Irish, due to heritage.

>what color should I make my robes/trousers out of?
follow the guide of complementary colors, so you dont end up looking like a christmas tree, other than that, its up to your personal preference.

>regarding my gambeson...
most gambeson use leather lace , i'll take a picture of the one i got monday but...oh god its far and i'm so lazy...also i cant really see what you mean by the pic related i cant see laces

>I've been kinda wondering if I should trip
Yes, Larpthreads are probably the only thread where triping is not only comon but really encouraged.

>I've kinda been really indecisive about what I want
go with crusades...shh shhsshh ....just...just go with crusades... WHAT?! me being biased? ...nonsense!.

It depends. Fresh or old? Blood turns brown when it dries, and using real blood from the butchers will eventually wash out. Get some red food coloring, and light brown ink to make permanent old blood stains.

Fresh looking is harder. You can buy a commercial stage gore that is like a perminant wet blood stain, but its out of season unless you order online.

>Currently thinking Irish, due to heritage

15th-16thC Irish. Its one of the most singularly unique and interesting time frames, as they're just coming out of isolation, and into Europe as mercs for the first time since the Romans. They are still using tech that is hundreds of years behind, and fashions that are frankly outrageous to continental Europe, making them rather exotic. Its criminally under represented, and easy as hell to do correctly. All you need is a lein (a giant saffron yellow tunic with angle wing sleeves) And pretty much any mix and match of armour from 1200AD to 1600AD. Greatsword optional.

depends on the armor and what they want really, but my armor is custom fitted. And so is everyone's from my group.

depends on what you call fantasy, but most of the time it's either some VERY generic stuff armor wise from al arp shop (which more often than not is ill fitted, borderline fantasy) or some movie like stuff, and yes, plain fantasy too

It's certainly a rather different type of costuming to cosplay or re-enactment.
The all important questions are: Can I run in it? Can I fight in it? Will it survive hiking/running/fighting/rain? Does it fit my personal vauge idea of my characters fantasy culture?

Many twiddy or fancy ideas have the thrown aside rather than have to suffer them for a whole weekend.

yep, one of the main difference between cosplay costumes and larp costumes is that larp stuff needs to be way more practical and looks only has the second priority.

That goes double for armor, but then again there are a lot of people who doesn't even know what to look for in an armor functionality wise. There are a fuckton of people who BELIEVES that armor must be restricting and when they buy some shit tier one they think that's the best they can get, and doesn't realize that it's shit. Like with a cloth if it's not your size it won't fit and you won't feel right in it.

... now that I think of it it's a very good metaphor for US larping...

Bicolline is less far than that.

probably a 5hour drive then.

Most people do a 5hour drive to go (Quebec is pretty foaking huge) and other more than that.

Living in montreal its a 3hours drive.

If you ever wanna go to a campaign or even the week itself, just contact me and i'll try to set you up for a place to sleep at bico (you have to tell me atleast a moth in advance tho) or if you dont wanna drive all the same day, a place to sleep in montreal (probably my home, and if your cute in my roomate's bed because she's a big gaping pussy in heat ...and will probably kill me when she read that).

And then we get on the purple knigth minivan (more useful for bringing all the stuff) and go to bico, the next morning (because after campaings there is always the bico nigth at the tavern and they are fun as hell) we go back to montreal and you can take your car back home.

Now if you wanna spend some moneydollars and rent a room with other people in the tavern (the room are pretty fucking nice its considered an hotel with all the commodities) you have to plan in advance because they usually get booked fast.

well that armor is not that bade movement wise...
Although the artist made it way too thick, the elbow is kind of redundant, and has a lot of holes protection wise.
Also full plate for lower leg and a shitty tasset for upper leg and even that is kind of sideways?
anyway, it can be made to be comfortable but it has serious problems protection wise that could be relatively easily solved with a few modification

I have to check the newer versions of it as well, but my idea was that it was some sort of shitty "mass produced" foot soldier armor for someone who didn't really care about what someone was wearing (or how crap it was, it was easy to make), and it sort of got changed/edited as it was used by the wearer. (since its basically a gambeson with some plate over the top)

But then, I'm not as knowledgeable about this sort of stuff.

>> No.8066891

>>8066851
my armor is pretty much munitions grade which means what cheap mass produced one with the added benefit that it was fitted for me.
Although it's early 16th century.

Anyway, even the munitions grade stuff was covering the vital parts. on the pic yours doesn't protect the stomach with plate just with... scale maybe? Which is harder and more expensive to produce (after you get to a technological level to produce plate) Which is something that you can ignore for a fantasy game but it's also heavier than the plate if you make it from proper materials and not as thick as in your picture.

I could go on but it's 1 am here and I will slowly go to sleep in the next dozen or so minutes
