Yeah usually cheap fucktards will use construction grade silicone(probably why it's so shitty looking since they have to breathe in the fumes) and use it sort of like icing.

Silicone is actually really bad for this because it will lose grip easily and things stuck to it will lose grip to the silicone, so always ask what they used before you buy if you want a good product.

This. Most of these girls will see high quality deco pieces selling for $40+ and think "omg people actually pay money for this stuff? I'll just go to home depot and buy some silicone caulk, easy peasy" and they just slap stuff together looking to make a quick buck.

This was actually my first attempt at deco ages ago (lol selfpost) I had already seen the majority of deco horrors and I was determined not to have mine look like that. Paper clay is the best.

Not saying that mine is super good or anything, but I think for a first time attempt it;s not bad (it could have been much MUCH worse)

I personally do charms, and jewelry type accessories mostly, because I don't understand why someone would want to have a bunch of stuff ontop of their phone cases. I can't really get into making something that I would hate to use.

I also test every new style I make, coat with resin and test for durability by tossing the stuff around at walls and throwing it in the wash so I can tell what my customers are getting.

Thanks! Yea as pretty as some deco cases are, I don't know if I would ever use one for myself, but they are fun to make. Coating with resin is a good idea, I usually use Decoart's gloss glaze

Craft grade is good. It is usually a glue/clay hybrid which holds it's shape well and doesn't gather nearly as much dust. It's actually better to use the "frosting" glues which are made for this stuff mostly because they bond better to cases, don't collect hardly any dust and can easily be made shiny with a topcoat or resin. Not whipple, it's crappy and water soluable, but even the chinese brands are better than cheap caulk.

Caulk is extremely cheap so I'm pretty sure most of the people who use it are just trying to make a quick buck and not actually make a quality item that will last.

I don't sell deco whip cases, but I've made a few for myself because I think it's cute, I also decorate little storage boxes for maximum kawaii.
I bought the little tubes from seria maybe 5 years ago, but they dry all stiffish and yellowy so I gave up. I saw it in other stores but I wasn't going to pay ¥2500 to make something that looks like etsy. But I read about the silicone caulk online, and I really like how it works. It holds shape, it's easy to clean, easy to get. Sometimes, things that are smooth will peel off slowly, but super glue holds like magic. It's nice and squishy and soft. It gets dust and debris caught it the ridges, but that seems kind of inevitable. You can just rinse it off.
I did have problems with it looking weird and lumpy one time, where it didn't dry right.
If you ignore the dust and shitty design, this is my current phone case. I did absent mindedly pick off the pearls but I'll fix it sometime later.

The best stuff costs only ¥1000 and you can get nice stuff for about ¥500.

But the point is silicone caulk isn't meant to be used for this kind of thing, it's normally used around the edges of sinks.

Also, a lot of the time, people use cabochons that are made of clays that might not hold up to water.

Another thing, if you use the whipped cream or silicone clay/glue types, they hold onto even flat surfaces, your pearls would never have come off.

I currently use padico which you can either buy through padicoshop or bestfromjapan. Bestfromjapan actually has a lower price, though I have noticed they are a bit old, one of my deco sauces was a bit dried out, not from padico directly though.

I also have been trying out tamiya decoration series products and they are wonderful! While I haven't received my whipped topping yet everything else by them is really great quality. You can buy some stuff by them from hobbylinkjapan as well as bestfromjapan.

Padico also sells silicone type in both clear and white. I have tried the white and I like it quite a lot. It also comes in a container that you attach a tip to, where as the whipped frosting type needs to be piped(it includes tips piping bags and a scoop). The tamiya brand whipped frosting is like the silicone, in that you can put tips on it's original container. So keep that in mind depending on what you like.

Both have choices of chocolate, white and pink, while tamiya has 'custard' which seems yellowy.

I have only spend about $45 on supplies for enough items that yield about $400 profit, so for me I think the quality is worth it.

Something like padico whip dries hard like plaster, where as whipple dries a bit softer and is similar to styrofoam.

Looked it up, and there, lower left hand corner, is a dress made out of shitty ancient Barbie sheets. I remember those shitty sheets, they were almost as rough and stiff as backpack fabric. My mom got matching curtains that I never got to use, because the fucking sheets shrank about 20% the fist time they were washed .

But seriously, using those fabrics as lining in things is cute. (I mean jackets and bags not things that actually depend on a lining for structure/non see through ness.) Likewise making it into a cute wallet, fabric earrings (only nice if the print is small and you do it button style tbh), or maybe even a cute jewelry/makeup box could be fun. Or making a little hand mirror! Small things would be fun and less power level spoiling.

Ok so one of the reasons these things turn out bad is because the prints are often so busy looking. If you tone them down, or separate the designs out, they'll be much easier to work with. Like using them as lining like >>7937410 said, or making a throw pillow or other accent piece that goes with a few other similar design but plainer patterned items. Or you could actually cut out the individual designs on it and use them as appliques on other things. If they're big designs, they'd be cool on the back of a jacket, as a patch design on a skirt (poodle skirt style?), on an apron, a pillow, a wall hanging, a tote bag, etc. Smaller designs could be used the same way or, if they're small enough, you could make buttons or badges out of them or cover a box or mirror or something. You could even patch them together over another piece of fabric like a quilt almost and embroider on it and make a crazy nerdy wallhanging.
Obviously with all of this actually put some care into cutting it out centered and even and all that, not like >>7931823

The reason this works is because it's a very simple cut without any crazy gathers or frills and the art is nice in the first place. A lot of "nerd prints" go south fast because they use some OMG I HEART COMIK BOOX fabric in something with a gather skirt or lots of weird ruffles and straps that just add to the confusion. I think something like this could be nice as a shell or panel of a flap purse where the base is a solid dark blue.

MGA Entertainment is a horrible toy maker. Bratz is dead, Novi Stars got recalled and discontinued, Lalaloopsy has had recalls as well and weren't it for the kid's shows I'm positive MGAE would be dead.

Looking at your etsy, the main thing I would say is that your cabochons look kinda cheap and not appealing, and (in some of your pieces) the placement is kinda off. Also, some of your pieces lack a coherent theme (like the winnie the pooh one, it looks like you just kinda put him on there as an afterthought. And for your Sailor Jupiter case, you tried to tie it together with green pieces, but it's still not really working). It doesn't really look like you plan out the layout of your cabochons before you start putting them down.

I have the same Flareon as the one on the case. It was sold as part of a set of two Pokemon in the recent line of X and Y toys released in Toys R Us, Walmart, etc. They're all a bit wonky looking.
