I'm not a fan of those bodyline tea parties on you, and they look really awkward when worn without socks. They are much too sweet for the look you're going for and they do not do your legs any justice. I would suggest something with heels in a light brown/beige color and sheer tights

>outfit 3, 4, 5
The ankle socks and the sweet cream socks are both doing the same effect: they're cutting off your outfit abruptly.

>outfit 6
I like this one because of the solid colored tights.

If you wore your outfits like >>7911572 and >>7911578, you would look so much more balanced. If you want to wear flatter shoes go with solid colored skirts. I hope this makes sense lol

>> No.7912873

>>7912858
Another thing I noticed. If it gets too hot try wearing camisoles and a bolero instead of the long sleeved blouses. The long sleeve+short skirt+bare legs might be adding to why it's so unbalanced.

Thanks for getting back to me!

>cute sandals and definitely something with a heel higher than 2 inches
Agreed.
I've been trying to keep an eye out, but I've had no luck finding something that's comfortable and in the right style. The shops around me have had slim pickings (unless you want gladiator sandals) or stuff online has been risky because of my foot-size.

>The outfits aren't balanced because of the lack of headwear and legwear.
I totally agree.
I wore all of those outfits to uni, so that's why I avoided excess headwear/legwear. But these outfit shots were all taken prior to May, so I've bought and added a few more things into my coords since then.

>outfit 1
Yeah, I like the red in this as well.
I've stopped wearing those shoes though, because they're pretty rubbish irl.

>outfit 2
Those shoes are actually from Taobao, but I think Bodyline sells them now. I used them a lot in the past because they're so damn comfy, but I've bought some cute Melissa flats and beige t-strap heels since then

>outfit 3,4,5
I love ankle socks because they're great for warmer weather, but I see what you mean about them cutting me off. I have bought some more since then, but they were the semi transparent ones. I think they work a bit better because you can still see skin through them.
As for the sweet cream house socks, I haven't worn them since! They felt so awkward and short, but I've since discovered that ETC and JM make god-tier length socks.

>>7912873
Camisoles with skirts are super cute, but my weird torso doesn't always work with them. I'll try to keep an eye out though!

Tbh I really didn't own any short sleeved blouses or boleros back then, but I've since bought some Amavel, ETC, and offbrand ones to fix this.

Thanks for the concrit, anon.

My wardrobe is really minimal right now and I'm trying to acquire more pieces.

Does anyone have any examples/recommendations/tips for winter fashion?

>> No.7913082

>>7913061
That looks pretty awful, anon. The layers make you look fat because they are placed around your hips. Also, the black shirt (blouse?) and the white skirt look really messy. I'd tuck in the shirt and change the skirt to one with a different colour, because the current colour scheme doesn't fit this outfit at all and makes everything look kind of bland and cheap. Also the zettai ryouiki looks messy, maybe use fake OTK tights or sock glue?

As for winter clothes, invest in cardigans and skirts in different colours. Jumpers with peter pan colours are also great. Try to stick to winter-y colours, for example dark red, navy, old pink, dark brown and black, depending on what fits your skin tone. Checked skirts are good staples too, if you like them. For tights, black always works, but if you want to try something new you could get some dark grey or dark red ones.

>> No.7913088

Thanks for the winter color advice!

The black is actually attached to the white blouse. It's a weird ruffle underlayer. I think maybe would look better with pants, now that you say.

I don't think your weight is a big factor here (and I think you look good at that weight anyway). The main problem I see with this is that you've tried to make a jfashion outfit of non-jfashion pieces. There's not really much you can do about that than buy the appropriate colours.

Another problem, like the other anon said, is that the layers are sitting at your hips. You're pear shaped, and that's just going to emphasise them. Try a skirt you can wear at your waist and tuck a blouse into, preferably a brighter coloured blouse and a darker coloured skirt. Play with the colours to trick the eye with your proportions, darker colours on the bottom and brighter or lighter on top will make your hips look smaller and draw attention to your top half.

That jacket also doesn't work with your shape, again, it hits at your hips. Try something cropped or something longer for a more flattering length.

Also the colours, are detracting away too IMO. Black and white don't seem very jfashion to me either. Your colouring from what I can see seems like you'd suit pastel shades, which I think would help

This anon has good advice.

Can we ask how tall you are? I think for basics some F21 or H&M pieces could work if you're average height (skirts might be too long if you're like 5'2"ish and under). I mean, F21 and H&M already basically either rip off taobao looking things or straight up buy from the same manufacturers and label their stuff one size up. For the eye-catching pieces Liz Lisa, Axes Femme, Ank Rouge, ETC have already been mentioned. Milk, milklim, galaxxxy, are a little funkier and really affordable secondhand if you can find them.

For winter, thick tights, short boots, and sweaters are what I usually go with. Aside from the brands already mentioned eBay and taobao are stuffed with cute sweaters. Searching "korean sweater" in eBay will get you cute but "softer" looking sweaters, whereas Japanese tends to bring up brighter ones.

Personally I mostly use clothing from chain stores, especially H&M. I live in Norway and we have the worst selection of brands, and I'm too big to fit into most j-fashion clothing besides lolita with shirring, so there isn't really that many choices. Casual j-fashion is pretty easy to find in normal stores, because it's supposed to be more casual and wearable than a lot of other styles. And there isn't really any rules.

Study your favorite styles and find out what's similar between them. Is it oversized, pastel colored sweaters and short skirts with lace? Darker colored vintage looking dresses and skirts with prints? Layerable clothing in brown/beige colors? You kind of get an eye for it after a while.

I prefer otome style-ish fashion, so I try to avoid too modern looking clothing. Find a cute shirt/blouse, pair with a dress or skirt with a cute print. I personally try to avoid soft jersey fabric for dresses and skirts, because I think they look too modern for this type of style, or don't fall into the body in a way that feels otome-ish (idk how to explain it). Wear cute tights or overknee socks. Style your hair. Use vintage looking jewelry and bags. Add a hat or/and bowtie.

Pic related is entirely chain store clothing.

Can I ask for a quick piece of advice?

I really want to start dressing in a pastel goth/creepy cute way but I'm afraid I don't have the body for it. I'm not overweight but slightly chubby on the hips/legs (classic pear shape) and I was wondering if I could still work the style without the adorable tiny twig legs all these girls seem to have ...? The advice for pears in regular fashion applies just as well for alt fashions: emphasize and accessorize your top half, downplay your bottom half, with more form-fitting tops and looser material on the bottom. So basically
+Tight tops
+Crop tops
+Chunky necklaces like those bats or crosses or whatever
+Chokers
+Longer skirts
+Bright top w/ black bottom half
+Head/hair accessories
+Creepers
and
-Printed tights/leggings
-Thigh highs/garters
-Baggy sweaters
-Short skirts
-Knee high boots
If the fashion is defined for you by the skeleton tights and oversized sweater look though, you'll probably need to look elsewhere.

It's like anywhere else, you'll see a very large variety of people, particularly depending on what part of the city you're in.

As with any other major cultural center like NYC or Paris etc, you're going to see a lot of very fashionable and attractive people, and their both the styles and their numbers will be eye catching. However, there will be just as many other normal folks milling about as well in various states of good, decent and poor dress, don't look like a schlub but otherwise don't fret over it too much.

Your friend's right, but that's also bc a majority of the blokes around Tokyo are business people. Make nice-looking adjustments to your clothes. Fit is important, so take stock of your wardrobe and make sure you've got a good fit going with what you do have. Swap out athletic sneakers for comfortable boots, dress shoes, or oxfords.

Similarly shaped girl here (75 cm waist, 89 cm hips).
If the sweater is thin enough I tuck it into the skirt waistband and wear the skirt at my natural waist.
Otherwise, I personally prefer cardigans on skirt outfits because I can leave them loose, which I find is usually more flattering, especially on skirts that sit at my natural waist. My baggier sweaters are reserved for cute leggings/shorts/jeans.

Generally being coordinated and flattering. There are a lot more comfortable/loose fitting aspects that looks cute on small Japanese girls but kind of frumpy on large or curvy western girls. The jean shorts on >>7917889 are not very flattering and the red tights are very loud and draw attention to thick, shorter legs.

In general I guess the hallmarks are:
>Tights/socks
>Feminine
>Flattering
>Loose sweaters and cardigans
>Looks
>Simple hats or accessories
>Normal hair color wigs are considered normal
fashion accessories
>Well coordinated colors

This is obviously very general but a lot carries over into things like otome, gyaru and even more extreme styles like decora and fairy kei.

>> No.7917946

>>7917889
Jfashion is an umbrella term for all Japanese street fashions, such as seifuku, gyaru, fairy/cult party/mori/whatever kei, himekaji, otome, lolita, etc.

OP's photo is a casual himekaji outfit. You can tell because it's got the cute princess-like aesthetic of himekaji and is styled in a very gyaru/himekaji-appropriate way.
The other example is simply a girl in jean shorts, a t-shirt, and tights. The shirt and jeans are unfitted and too plain to work in any Jfashion.
For example, if she had chosen a cutsew with a cute motif and pumpkin pants with tights instead, it would have been casual himekaji or gyaru instead, because those items all are within the aesthic of gyaru and himekaji.

First! Clean up your room, second wear shoes when you want people to weigh in on your outfit. Second! put some more effort into your outfits- accessorizing and coordinating is important and shows that you do care about how you look. More effort and thought = more cohesive and more flattering looks.

It's currently very western, rather than having any of the charm or cohesion of a jfash outfit. Also, you can lose weight but tbh I'm guessing you do try and live a healthy lifestyle and no matter what size you're at you want to look cute and present your best self. Back when I lived in Tokyo I'd see as many chubby girls who are well dressed (or at least interestingly dressed) as thin ones. So to me that's not the main problem. You just need to up the difficulty of your outfits if that makes any sense?

And, though not necessarily jfash- solid tights work best with skirts and dresses imho, try fake thigh highs and tattoo tights with shorts. Finally- wear that sweater with leggings or pants tbh, maybe a cute skirt poking out from under, but I'd need to think about it more... don't pull it down all the way as neatly maybe. like don't wrinkle the shit out of it, but try a more relaxed/less straightened out look. Cheers anon, thanks for being brave enough to share.
