Anyone try GensoBox yet? Thoughts on the idea of what's essentially a monthly lucky pack subscription? I'm kinda interested in giving it a go...

>> No.7882723

Ha, I was just about to make a thread on this. I guess it just went live? I saw the ad on Lacemarket and I'm really interested.

I just wish I had a better idea of what they think "gal" is. They have a tumblr with reblogs of all the styles. I want liz lisa type look (I know I won't actually get that brand) or hime, not glam/rokku gal.

>> No.7882727

Sadly the shipping is kind of expensive, $20. I wonder if it actually comes from Japan or what.

>> No.7882744

>>7882727
According the about section on their Facebook, they "deliver trends from Tokyo" but I dunno if that means they're actually shipping stuff from Japan or they're being more figurative...

>>7882723
Same for me with their Gothic Lolita stuff. The fact that they include a petticoat in their starter box gives me some hope, at least.

>> No.7882752

>>7882744
Is that the one you'd get? At least the photos on their tumblr are all pretty stylish.
I'm torn between gal and mahou shoujo. But if I got the mahou shoujo one I'd want the wig and I really shouldn't be spending money in the first place.
Awhile back one of the SS on egl was doing luckypacks from closet child, I really wish she would bring those back. She sent me completely the wrong luckypack but it was still worth it

>> No.7882753

On their about page it says "We support independent labels worldwide." which might be a clue that some/most of their stuff is from indie brands? I don't know.

This seems like a really cool concept, but I'd want to see reviews/examples first.

>> No.7882781

>>7882753
Reading on a little, it seems they only ship within the US? Well, never mind then.

>> No.7882784

>>7882753
I assume so since they reference custom tailoring as an option--I'm imagining they must be in collaboration with someone.
I'll wait until I see reviews for them, I think. I'd be more tempted if they did just a lolita accessories and tights/socks pack for cheaper.

>> No.7882890

I made an account on a lark, not going to actually order anything though. The style quiz is hilariously bad, and probably only useful for complete beginners. If they base the box around the results, I would be super screwed. I wonder how they would deal with someone with an established style? I guess you would probably have to email them or something before ordering.

>> No.7882932

>>7882714
Oh what the hell, why not.

I'm going to buy a starter pack and a subscription box because I'm very interested. I can't tell between the differences of kawaii vs mahou shoujo though. Would a review interest anyone at all?

As for lolita I'm really picky in what goes into my wardrobe since it's themed, so lucky packs are a no-go for me in that category. I'm also not interested in gyaru unless it's what >>7882723 stated here.

>> No.7882998

The whole concept is beyond amazing, I really hope they know what they are doing.
I'm a bit sad that they seem to only be shipping within the US so far, but maybe they'll start shipping internationally if they receive demands from other parts of the world?

Me too!
It asked if I was a magical girl or cute witch, what motifs I liked, colours I like, if I had worn wigs before, favourite MG anime, any motifs I dislike, skirts/shorts/dress, OTT or casual etc. etc.

It seemed like a pretty good line of questioning to figure out what clothes to get me.

I'm pretty optimistic about this.

One of the girls involved is really untrustworthy like the other anon said, and another one is just really dumb and has never had a real job. I don't know anything about the Yui person who seems to be responding to their facebook posts but no matter who it is, 3 girls is not enough people to juggle a project of this magnitude; you're talking customized packages for every customer handpicked from taobao and sent off in a timely manner, after more than like 5 customers this will become overwhelming for them. I'm not going to order regardless but it will be interesting to see how this plays out given their pasts.

That's still not relevant, anon.
Sure, I can see that you can't trust her as a friend, but trusting her as a seller is a completely different story.

Being two-faced or backstabbing has to do more with personal issues and any friendships she may have than her business.

As long as she and the people who work with her are delivering the product, how she is as a friend is seriously irrelevant.

>> No.7888477

>>7888014
i can see what you mean, but I would prefer to do business with someone who has a clean reputation. If friends can't even trust them, how can strangers expect to have an honest and positive experience? I'm not even in the comm, but if I were to hear that somebody screwed over a bunch of people over and was generally untrustworthy for whatever reason within their own community, I would have serious reservations about doing business with them. That's how I see it anyways. And seeing all these "vendetta! VENDETTA!!!11" responses over and over again when people are trying to explain why they don't trust her doesn't look very good either like they are whiteknighting themselves. I would understand the whole "vendetta" thing if anons were calling these girls ugly/fat/bawww-they-have-my-dream-dress/ita, but that isn't the case. I think this confirms they are going to use taobao products in their boxes. I think it really depends on the price range and the quality of the taobao shop they are going to use how the boxes will turn out. hopefully for them they made a good deal with a good quality selling taobao shop.

One of my biggest concerns is that they start out with so many styles and i'm very curious how they are going to provide such a range in variety. In my opinion they could have better started with 1 á 3 styles and work their way up. you can better explore the market instead of making such high promises. What are you going to do if you get xx deferent personal request a month? What if people don't like what you have personally selected for their taste? Are they planning to have everything in stock or buy when they get the requests? If yes, will this increase the shipping time?

I wished they showed some of the product people can expect from their boxes..

>> No.7891038

For all of you shitting on this website obviously it is very new. i went through some of the HTML codeing and it's buggy everywhere. example would be after getting the sweet lolita after the quiz and hitting buy on the subscription it will take to the wrong type of box all together. so I would send feed back to them via the contact us page. spread the word about it and really hound them with questions about concerns and basic inquireies. the idea i think is a really good at it's base and was actually sad when i found this because i was thinking of starting up this same thing. what they should do is some crowd funding for this... i would support it.

I think this thread has only been useful for finding out about kawaiibox.com. That one makes most sense as it can be bought in bulk and distributed among the subscribers. Not to mention $20 is a lot easier to budget for a subscription service. I'd rather get generic cute accessories and toys than main pieces because I'd rather handpick my main pieces off of taobao if they're going to come from there anyway.

>> No.7891672

After someone gets their starter kit, they should figure out if it's any cheaper than ordering all the stuff from taobao with a shopping service, since it looks like all the shit is coming from taobao anyways.

I kinda doubt it'll be any cheaper, but someone should at least calculate the difference between them to see if gensobox is even worth it. I mean besides from having the surprise element, if it's around the same costs, you might as well handpick the items yourself.

They're totally trying to turn a profit, not how you do with blindboxes. Usually people get items wholesale and pocket the difference or b-grade or older/discontinued/unpopular styles for way cheaper than on market. This is just high-level scalping.

>> No.7891815

>>7891680
Well, damn.
Usually the point of these kinds of boxes is that you magically pay less for the entire thing than if you were to buy each item individually.
At least that's how it is with the makeup boxes and Wantable stuff.

$120 for ~$70 of taobao stuff? Even with including shipping and SS fees, it MIGHT cost you close to the same amount. Except you don't actually get to pick what you want and have to rely on someone else's ability to discern quality.
The difference in $ between buying yourself and through this is pretty much a service charge - they'll have to order through an SS themselves and pay shipping fees, THEN they charge you their own service fee, plus shipping to the final customer...

Then again, I guess it would work for people that don't know what to buy and like getting themselves a surprise gift every month?
Doesn't seem like value for the money to me.

>> No.7891827
