I'm taking measurements for a custom order, I've got ever measurement except my shoulder width. Where exactly on my shoulder should I start the tape? I keep re-doing it because I feel like I'm wrapping it too far around my shoulder or not enough (trying to get this right because I have linebacker shoulders...)

All the guides I've found just say "start at the edge of your shoulder" and that's not super clear

>> No.7881023

>>7880989
First off, you can't measure your point to point accurately by yourself because you want your arms relaxed by your sides so that your shoulder blades are in the right place during the measurement. The end points should be the end of your shoulder right as the skin leads down into your arm, pulling the tape back behind your neck but not tight against your neck. The easiest way to get the most accurate measurements is to bring a body chart to your local alterations shop and ask them to do it for you.

Or you could find a fitted blouse that fits you and measure it flat to get a good idea of the width, but you have to account for wearing ease on the garment, it won't be your exact measurement.

>> No.7881066

>>7881023
Well that makes sense. Unfortunately there's not a tailor shop nearby and I wouldn't even have a way to get there if there was. I'll see if I can get a second person to do the measurement for me. Thanks!

It's gone now, but I found a page on the AP USA site about their 4th anniversary tea party. Apparently Maki and Asuka can't make it this year. For a $100 purchase and a $60 ticket, I don't think it's worth it if nothing special is going on. It's super disappointing IMO.

Tea Party ticket for Angelic Pretty San Francisco branch 4th Year Anniversary!!
*Tea Party will take place on November 23rd 2014 (Sunday) from 2:30pm~4pm.
*Venue of party will be walking distance from Angelic Pretty San Francisco store.
*Purchase of $100 or more is required for eligibility to purchase ticket.
*Qualifying purchases must be made starting from October 16th 2014 from the Angelic Pretty San Francisco website or physical store location in San Francisco.
*Purchase of gift certificate is not eligible for the $100 requirement. Purchases made using gift certificates as a form of payment is eligible.
*Tickets are bind to the purchaser and are not transferable.
*Physical tickets will not be mailed out.
*Tickets are non-refundable.
*For this time, we won't be able to have Angelic Pretty designers - Maki & Asuka- at the party due to their schedule.
There will be some surprise from them at the party, so don't get too disappointed!

It seems like it's really not worth it, especially I'm not too keen on anything they have in stock at the moment.

I have a small question. I've always wanted to model in a jfashion show at a con but I've always worried that I wouldn't get accepted because of my bust.
I have a skinny muscular build but I have a larger chest size.
I have a 36 inch bust with a 28 inch underbust so I can fit into Angelic Pretty and Btssb.

The pregnant thing happens when you wear a petticoat with it. People are so concerned with ~the rules~ that they forget to actually look good and common sense goes out the window. These dresses look best with a small petti or no petti if your legs are thin enough.

literally every "rule" in lolita can be broken and have it still be lolita as long as you don't decide to break them all in the same outfit *and it's done well*. I've been meaning to make a secret about it with pictures of great outfits with a broken rule for years but I never get around to it. Lolita is the look itself not any one particular thing.

But the fashion is made up of ~geek nerd girls~ who literally know nothing about fashion and need to be actually guided with a set of rules about the asthetic of the fashion and I've been annoyed by this since 2006 when all the weebs came over and we actually had to write a guide with a set of things that make a lolita because of how fashionably impared they where, and we got tired of explaning the fashion to noobs. And to this day were still hearing about THE RULES and uuugh they where never meant to be rules set in stone, we where just explaining the fashion to people who had a hard time grasping the concept visually and needed to actually be told how to lolita.

oh, you're one of those. you probably think a coordinate can be lolita without a petticoat too, right?

>> No.7882137

>>7882135
It can. It depends on the dress. A lot of summery sailor collar dresses are meant to be worn with bare arms, as one example.

With length, it depends on the height of the wearer and the overall look. Provided you're not trying to pass off a Leg Avenue length dress as lolita, there's flexibility in skirt length still.

Didn't choke just post a coord without a petti and all the cool kids agreed that yes recently?

I've seen so many good coords without a petti in my short lolita life (99% done with A-line dresses) Things don't suddenly turn not lolita because of a petticoat. It looks better with it yes but to call it not lolita is a streach.

>> No.7882149

Oh you're one of those. Plenty of dresses have a nice poof because of buil-in pettis, and for an everyday 'casual' look this is enought. Not saying that it work for every style an every dress, but a nice plain classic skirt with a buil-in petti is sometimes enought poof.

>> No.7882155

>Didn't choke just post a coord without a petti and all the cool kids agreed that yes recently?

No? Responses to that coordinate were pretty mixed, even among the "cool kids". There's also been a lot of fuss about tea-length skirts not being lolita either because they look so off with even minimal poof. Victorianme used to get flack all the time for wearing long dresses and skipping out on a petti, choke isn't special and can't magically make an empty skirt lolita.
A coordinate can still be -good- without a petti (though some dresses just look way better with even minimal poof), just don't try to call it lolita and there won't be a problem.

I'm really stuck on things like leg wear, cardigans/bolero's, accessories, (shoes I'm working on since I have larger feet), and a better assortment of blouses(not sure which colours to get that would go nicely with more than one thing besides black+white)

It's not your boobs that make you look pregnant, they've got nothing to do with it it's the petticoat. Use a very small petti and make sure it doesn't sit at dresses waist but on YOUR waist.

Only skinny bitches can pull it off with no petti and to be honest I think it would look better with one anyway.

Anon, you do realize that a built-in petti is still a petti right? Like, what are you even trying to say? The argument isn't whether explosive poof makes a coordinate lolita or not, it's the presence or absence of poof which should vary based on the skirt.

Youre probably being overtly critical lol

I'm just as skinny (90 lbs with A cups) and honestly as a daily lolita they're god sent. Stuff I didn't put into collages because it would take way too much time:
I have matching headbows for all AP JSKs and skirts except the non-print ones.
My socks are pretty generic; I have a lot of AP socks and tights.
I have very few pairs of shoes (gold heels, brown heels, and pink tea parties) and very few bags.

I think I've fallen into the very common pitfall of having a diverse wardrobe but only 1-2 coordinates per item. You don't have to tackle my entire wardrobe, but I'd like some suggestions on items that would work with lots of the pieces I have because I'm a bit overwhelmed.

Wait, my wadrobe is mostly classic and old school but I do have some 2009 AP with no built in petti. Does AP still do built in petticoats? I've seen the fabric itself has gotten WAY thinner than what they use to use/I own. Thick cotton holds a nice shape even with no built in petti, but the stuff I've seen looks like it would be lifted with a gust of wind.

Anyway, the no petticoat thing depends in the dress entirely. On the cut the fabric on everything. And the coord itself too, of course.

Looking for sax pieces to add to my pink SC coord since I have the pink and blue pony bag, and everything else I have is pink. (dont have the matching headbow or socks, but I have a pink headbow and pink socks)
Was thinking about this cardigan from bodyline but idk how well the color matches to the sax blue from the bony bag or the dress accents itself. Also thinking about sax socks instead of pink ones, maybe a sax headbow too? I plan on getting the matching socks and headbow for the set, but until then I think I might as well use sax pieces instead to make it more balanced. The blouse I'm using is also from bodyline, and its pink.

So I just got my antaina shoes a couple of days ago from my lolita dress. The shoes look and fit great. Im not crazy about my brown pair, but Im really liking my pink ones.
Anyways, today when I was searching in my closet and I made a mess. As I picked my lolita shoes off the ground, I noticed that one pair came with a 'flaw'. Part of the sole part was missing. Its just foam.

I need to clarify a few things:
1. Black IW JSK and black BTSSB blouse are the same shade of black
2. I've cut the neck ties from the black BTSSB blouse
3. Bodyline white blouse has detachable sleeves and jabot
4. Bodyline pink blouse has detachable sleeves and is there is no front bow
5. Beige IW OTK socks in reality look white on my legs
6. I also have handmade wristcuffs (dark brown with mint ribbons) and brown beret (to which I can attach any bow/ribbon/etc)
7. I have jewelry to match all of the outfits

The pieces I'm planning to add:
1. Black high waist skirt
2. Pink shoes
3. Pink bag
4. A more classic-looking brown bag

I just need direction what should I add here in order to make more coordinates. I'm afraid of buying too much stuff I can't wear because it won't match.

Puppet circus is one of those weird prints where you can auction it off and no one will bid one week, and three weeks later it can go for a crazy price because three people wanted it.

Also, most of the girls I know who would pay the market price for that dress are also the sort of people who aren't interested in posting publicly that they want to buy something that pricey anyways. Certain members of the lolita community PM by default, and it's much more common with the more affluent ones than the average lolita. I don't know if it still happens, but in the past, there was a fairly big isssue with girls getting jelly over people who had rare pieces or large closets and harassing them. I know a number of lolita with large (100+ piece) closets and most of them have said they won't do closet posts because they are still concerned about harassment.

Hello. I want to get into lolita. But before I start buying things, I want to see if I can incorporate items already in my wardrobe. From what I can tell, lolita blouses typically have a peter pan collar. What about outerwear? >> No.7885955

>>7885949
It depends, but I would advise against it. They tend to bunch up on top of or over your waist ties in an ugly fashion. They also make the waist area of the coord look less defined, which doesn't help the silhouette. Maybe you could alter them?
