So recently there was a debate about whether or not /cgl/ should do a secret santa. I thought it would be a pretty neat idea. I'd be willing to run it, but I wanted to see if seagulls would be interested in doing something like that. Please use this thread to voice any concerns/ideas.

Here is the official poll:

The general rules would be as follows:

The deadline is November 10th. Simply fill out the below form with your info and send it to voldieclaus@hotmail.com. The more specific you are, the better.

Price Range :
- $0/Cards
- $10 - 25
- $25 - 50
- $50 - 75
- $75 - 100
- $100 - 150
- $150 - 200
- $200 - 250
- $250+
Name:
Country:
Address:
Size (if you are asking for clothing/shoes/contacts/etc):
Can you ship internationally?
Are you able/wish to send out X-mas cards (Specify amount)?
Wishlist (Imgur albums with specific links would be best. Please don't just put "Surprise me."):
Are you willing to send extra gifts to anons who get grinched (do not receive a gift), Y/N?

lolita-tips is running one, I quite like that they're asking for optional feedback to weed out some flakes / pairing potential flakes with potential flakes. Should we do that too?

>> No.7871586

>>7871575
100% yes.

And if anyone doesn't deliver, they should get named & shamed on /cgl/ and perpetuated as a scammer.

Keep the flakes out.

Is this just for lolitas or can cosplayers join too? (I'm into j-fash and general cute shit if that helps)

>> No.7871588

>>7871586
Also I feel like taking it to Facebook or something like that would be a wise idea. If it's not 100% anon, it's more likely to go over better, I think. It's also easier to communicate somewhere like that.

>> No.7871593

>>7871587
I see no reason why we couldn't include cosplayers?

Just like, pair cosplayers with cosplayers. The gifts wouldn't have to be strictly lolita, and if you have a wishlist you could easily include links to the things you want to make it easier on the other person if they're not familiar with your preferred style.

>>7871588
I don't think FB is a good idea, since some seagulls don't want people to find out their real name and personal stuff etc. I would think that the feedback system should be sufficient and that Voldie can use her better judgement to verify and pair people up.

>>7871587
I think that as long as you list what your general wardrobe theme and what you would like, it'll be fine.

>> No.7871603

>>7871575
That's a really good idea. I took the liberty to fill out an example form:

Price Range : $50 - 75
Name: Voldie Mort
Country: Canada
Address: 359 Yonge St
Toronto, ON, Canada
M5B 1S1
Size: US 6
Can you ship internationally? Yes
Are you able/wish to send out X-mas cards (Specify amount)? Yes, about 5
Wishlist: http://imgur.com/a/mjjMm
Are you willing to send extra gifts to anons who get grinched (do not receive a gift)? Yes
*OPTIONAL* Feedback: http://eglfeedback.livejournal.com/90210.html

>>7871586
Well yeah, I figured it would be for any and all seagulls.

>>7871586
I hope nobody would flake out, but if they did it would be a gutty thing to do after sending me their full name/address

>> No.7871607

>>7871603
In case of giving you a fake feedback, you can maybe verify it on egl/lacemarket by getting them to send you a message from that account?

>> No.7871608

So how would this work exactly? How do we ensure that everybody gives and gets?

I'm pretty poor myself, but I could grab US anon's things they might want from Daiso and our general Asian mall.

>> No.7871611

>>7871607
Good idea.

>>7871608
Everyone would fill out the form and send them to me. I would group people by price ranges as best as I can. I'd match people up within groups, and send everyone the wishlist, name, and address of the person they're to send something to. Ideally, they'll then buy something for that person and send it to them. Of course, there's always a small chance you might get grinched, which is why there's an option for people to send extra things to people who don't get anything (better late than never I guess!)

>> No.7871613

>>7871534
I would love to do this!

>> No.7871633

It's also worth noting that stuff from Taobao might not be viable. Also, if you're looking for brand items that aren't currently available directly from the brand, don't be afraid to list a lot of different options (in case any of them show up secondhand)

>> No.7871643

>sign up for $100-150
>have wishlist full of exclusively socks

>> No.7871781

This is very interesting but there could be a few issues with this as well.
I'm concerned with quality, and people trying to unload the things that they failed to sell in the sales comm.
It's also prone to getting scammed, there probably will be people that never receive anything.
As for shipping, I think there should be a rule that it's at least tracked and the sender also gives the tracking info to the moderator.
This way we can make sure people aren't going to scam others and claim it never arrived or never send anything at all.
Perhaps it's a good idea to add detailed info such as what style of Lolita someone likes, what sort of items they'd prefer to receive?
As a gothic Lolita I wouldn't be very happy to receive pastel pink things that wouldn't go with my wardrobe, and the same goes for sweet Lolita wearers receiving gothic items.

>> No.7871782

Can you put general items you like on your wishlist? I like to have lots of small gifts personally, so giving the person an idea what I like so they can get dreative with it? Also is eBay feedback alright?

>> No.7871783

I think all gifts should be approved by Voldie/whoever else is moderating. Timestamped proof photos + condition notes if the item isn't BNWT, etc.

fukkin seconded.

I like this idea. And maybe tell people not to ship out their gifts until their partner's sent in their proof just to minimise the risk of getting nothing?

>> No.7871798

Maybe we could use elfster?

I'll see how this years one goes first... Don't feel so safe.

>>7871789

Sounds like a good idea. Safety should come first!

>> No.7871814

>>7871534
For the sake of your own sanity, I'd actually put just one price range down, something like $10 min and $30 max. If this is the first year this is happening on cgl and your first time basically herding cats, you'll want to make it as simple as possible on yourself.

Other forums I've been on have kept things easier like making it an ornament exchange or crafted things as well so that might be worth considering.

There's just too much that can go wrong with this in its current arrangement.

>> No.7871851

How would we be able to get everyone their wishlist items before christmas though? Considering brand can't just be bought in store and we don't have a whole lot of time to order something, receive it and then ship it again.

>> No.7871867

>>7871851

Perhaps the wishlist shouldn't so specific?
How about listing the sort of items you're interested in, what your style is, if you prefer off-brand or brand and leaving the rest to your secret santa?
I think it will be very hard to find specific items.
I agree with the timeline issues. The time frame is quite short.

Seconding the fixed price range thing at least for this year maybe? Doesn't have to be that exactly, but I think it'd make everything simpler and more fair overall (not to mention a bit less work for you to have to do, Voldie)

PO Box.

>>7871867
I agree, general aesthetic and maybe the wishlist just as an example of things you like would be a better idea.

>> No.7872065

I don't really like the wishlist idea.
Maybe list the dresses you have and style/s you like, so the person can choose something out for you that matches.

>> No.7872212

I'm super poor but i really want to give something to someone but that would be shit and i don't want that person to be disappointed...

>> No.7872270

I don't think it is a good idea to have such an expensive giveaway. Id only sign up for the lolita tips one because it is cheap and under $50.

guuuuuurl, you tryna get scammed huh?

>> No.7872748

Why not lower the price range to 10-50, have girls put down their primary style, preferred brands, skip wishlist items and then they can get paired up based on that.

I literally just copy and pasted most of the stuff from the /a/ secret santa, of course, it's up for discussion.

>>7872016
Fixed price range sounds like a good plan, any idea on what that price range should be? Also would anyone be horribly offended if someone sent something over the price range if they're feeling generous or something?

>>7872065
The wishlist isn't mandatory. If you don't want to include a wishlist, you can list your style, interests, etc. Some people might want to get specific things (for example, a cosplayer might want a certain length/colour of wig)

>> No.7872761

>>7872750
To me the point of SS is being surprised by what you're getting! Like ask your family for specific shit; get small surprise presents from SS! otherwise why go through the hassle...

>> No.7872766

>>7872748
A range is kind of risky, since someone could send out a gift closer to $50 and then receive a $10 piece of crap. My comm's rule is "As close to $30 as possible," so could be a few dollars more or less, or be made up of multiple cheaper items that add up to around $30, but no one gets blatantly ripped off.

>> No.7872778

sage for ot

The only cosplay SS I've ever participated in, I never got my gift. Never bothered to report my partner because my post office looses things all the time and I waited until after Christmas to see if it would show up. I don't know what happened, I would like to think that the post office lost it. It's turned me off to online SS, but that's just me.

I love SS though, everyone was so happy to get their gift and my partner loved the pillow I made her!
