Not an item per se, but it drives me up the wall whenever I see people walking around with finished commissions that aren't sleeved up. It just comes across as really careless of the artist that they didn't think to protect their completed artwork when handing it over to the customer.

Sick of -everything- steampunk related in artist alley.

It's always the same thing. Some 30 something with her tits hanging out over a corset trying to sell me shitty jewelry or some creep weeb dude in a top hat with a goatee trying to talk to me about his stupid cosplay group(that's all a steam punk group is, sorry.) rather than letting me shop. I hate the ego behind it.

No one wants your shitty overpriced jewelry made of junk.

I came to an anime/comic book convention for anime and comic book related shit. Go to a steam punk con and sell that shit and stop taking up tables of real vendors.

I still sold well. But something doesn't sit right with me about $5 large prints, undercutting even the cheaper artists by half. The only reason I managed to get by was solely because my art spoke for itself, but when it comes down to the option of getting a print you really like, and getting two or three of okay prints, most people tend to choose the latter- at least, that was the trend I was hearing all weekend. Am I bitter and jealous? Maybe. He was a nice person, and I have nothing against him. But I spent four days too many overhearing stuff like "Oh man, everyone else is so expensive" and "I love going to your table because I can buy so much!", and the dreaded customer considering purchasing something from my table only to notice the large $5 sign next to me and rush over. Was that his work standing on it's own, or was it merely a nice pricetag paired with a fandom for every person?
But that's just me being sandy idk. It was still one of my better weekends, but it bothered me.

This was a weird incident, but during my last AA, someone switched my price signs around. The price tag for my 5x7 prints were switched with my 11x17. A lot of customers would be like, "Hey so this is $___ right?" and I'd have to correct them, and most would make a weird face at me. I was wondering if my prices were too high or something, and so I walked around and checked my table. That's when I realized the signs were switched. They have respective print sizes on them, but I guess some customers didn't notice that part of the signs. To be perfectly honest these are my favorite things to buy at Artist Alleys. I'm not an artist myself so I don't know how much you really care about my input, plus I don't really know how well those kinds of things sell in general, but usually if I see something both useful and unusual like a tote bag with a pokemon on it or thigh highs with cute patterns (I consider them useful because you can actually wear them) I'll snap that shit up. I love buying kawaii anime shit but honestly there's only so many phone charms and pins I can stand. I want to see a lot more things like notebooks big enough to actually use, jackets, purses, etc. I am tired of the same resin jewelry and bows made with "nerdy" fabric, there's just too much of the same stuff.

I can't make patterned socks as I dont have the tools, but I can make cute tote bags! How much would you pay for one that had a pokemon appliqué or something painted on it if it was well constructed and had a cute design?
Also things that are lolita items - even if you aren't into lolita would those sell well among the anime crowd because of the kawaii anime girl vibe? Things like dickies, detachable collars and cute hair clips.

Tbh with everything you described and assuming we are both thinking about roughly the same size bags (I was thinking like pic related) I could easily drop $30 dollars for it, maybe more. Also at every single Anime convention I have ever been to, there have been multiple shops selling little lolita trinkets like tiny bows and acrylic rings and stuff like that. A shot in a dark but has anyone tabled at Tsukino Con in Victoria, BC? What is it like, especially if you're from out of town?

I'm debating about trying a table there as I'm from Vancouver, and I've never been to Victoria since early childhood. I think if I give myself extra days before and after the con to check out the city and how to get to the con (lots of the hotels and places seem far from the venue), I might be fine. On the other hand, I make plushies and things so there's going to be a lot to carry over, which I can deal, I hope.

Depends on how much work you are doing and extra cost of materials. From what they look like each one would take you 30 minutes to an hour depending on the intricacies of the paint job.

Where I live, you can literally buy them in those gumball machines at theme parks and other places and only white teenage girls wear them
They don't cost even $2

Shitty, overpriced, mass produced work pisses me off so much. I can understand selling a piece of artwork that took you a week of all nighters to finish in time for 60 or so bucks; it's a lot of labor im addition to printing. What pisses me off is people selling $15 keychains that can be found on most websites for $15.
That and the dvd sales booths that take up three takes. They act like a majority of us haven't torrented the entire series in HD.

I think you're confusing AA with the vendor's room.

And nobody is going to pay $60 at a con for art. If you're selling prints at a con you don't wait until you need to pull a week of all nighters to finish one piece. I don't think you have any idea how this works.

Ergh, yeah, I've been feeling the pain myself. I didn't make too many bows last year so luckily I still have a bunch floating around.

Where do you usually get yours? I usually find mine on AE at around $8 for 50.

I guess that answers >>7822659. Just drop the $8 - they're really useful for 'pin and hair' crafts in general.

Might be where you live anon, the further south you go, the less people can afford art. I've had no problem with people dropping 40-70$ at my booth in purchases.

Aliexpress. For some reason I'm not able at all to paste into 4chan, but you can search "brooch alligator clip" to get the dual clips, and sort by seller rating to find a trustworthy seller!

What tips do you guys have on getting art prints made? Specifically with illustrations I have had issues with overly saturated colors, or just plain dark images before. I usually work in RGB, so I'm thinking if converting images to CMYK would work better?
I'm also interested in getting a few prints done to sell at a con, but a few of my works are fan art pieces. I know a lot of commercial places get anal about printing stuff like that.

Does anyone else feel weird when you see an artist selling prints of things someone commissioned?

I keep seeing artists do this. It seems kinda shady. Any thoughts?

$40-$70 overall, yes, but not $60 on one print. Goddamn. That's too high for reproduced work and too low for originals.

I also did laser cut yuna guns for a while (such a bitch to laser cut)

I do think kits are the best way to go since they can put it together and sand it how they like. 25-30 is a good price range for that. I'd probably give 50$ for the one you posted. Why does it take you so long to put together? are you counting glue/ paint dry time?

Anyone know where to get a moderate number of inkjet shrink film paper? All I've seen is either packs with 6 pages or like, packs with 50+ pages.
Preferably something around 15-20 pages? I have a fairly tiny con coming up soon I'm sick of selling cheap ass laminated charms, but I'm not confident enough to put a bunch of money into ordering acrylic ones just yet. I want to see how these ones would sell first.

I was thinking about printing some tote bags with a pokemon design and either selling them as is or offering them only through the purchase of two or more prints. I've noticed a lot of people prefer to have a bag to carry their prints and small keychains in and I thought this would be a good alternative to plastic bags. Feedback on this?

I'd be a little mad, unless their ToS stated it - most artists I've seen say that they can put them commissions online or use them for their portfolio, but don't mention that they can sell it.

On the other hand, I've commissioned some things (like pillowcases) well aware that the artist means to sell copies afterwards and I'm fine with it because that was the deal.

Nice edge there m8. You know most people at conventions are teenagers, right? And most of them are becoming more inclined to stream anime online instead of trying torrent? Not everyone can get into animebytes or other anime torrent sites when half of them are dying every other day. And some people just like having a BD/DVD collection.

>or offering them only through the purchase of two or more prints
Two prints seems like a really, really low price for a tote bag.
Also, i'd still wrap your prints in a plastic bag, even if you DID give them away. The plastic bag is for protection from damage. Carrying a tote bag around all day with prints in them would expose them to a shitton of damage.

I know this is a lame question, but how would this printer do with printing stickers and ShrinkyDinks? I'm looking for inexpensive, but not total crap...
