Any one do Ren Faires?

I'm working on a doublet and breeches for myself, and a dress for my niece.

I want to go to the ren faire with my lolita comm, but will the rennies think we're being retarded and dressing in inaccurate garb or some retarded shit like that?

Related, I wish I HAD some garb because there's a garb discount and it's all so pretty but I don't have time to get anything and I can't fucking sew.

My ren faire is dirty and hot and full of disgusting food and old lady tits.I know im just not an outside person but please at least grass somewhere?
the entire faire is on 100% dirt
maybe because its a fire hazard to have booths set up on grass? I don't know..

its also not worth the price (in my personal opinion)

Seriously don't worry about it. Renn Faires are generally 0.5% historically accurate. They are more like fantasy/cosplay/renaissance-like faires.

Even the stuff that seems like it might be historically accurate is in the wrong century.

Tricorn and other pirate hats? 17th century

Long flowing dresses with long flowing sleeves? 14th century

any kind of kilt that isn't just alot of plaid belted around the waist? 18th century

I've worn lolita with a medieval flair and didn't have any problems at all. Just remember you will be walking forever, get rather dusty and your petticoat will deflate.

I wanted to get F+F's Emma Regency dress (because it's super pretty, and feels more renny than any of my other dresses) but there isn't any time. Still wouldn't be any kind of accurate garb of course, but I feel like it would fit in better.

Oh well.

>>7809037
That's a pretty dress. I don't mean to be bitchy, but it'd be more accurate to say "it feels more historical" because generally the 1300's to the late 1500's is the renaissance, but regency is the 1810s and 20s. 400 years of difference.

Anyway my historical pet peeves aside, feel free to wear whatever you want to renn faires as they are generally not historically accurate at all.

Aw shit, had a blast at the KCrenfest this year. Might go back on the last weekend.

Also I saw a Dr. Who cosplayer at the faire. Not sure if it was because LOLENGLAND or LOLTIMETRAVEL but it looked really out of place.

Lastly, has anyone ever thought what the site of a renfaire must look like after it's closed? I mean, all the little shops, buildings, and huts and castles are there, but no wares or peoples.

Must look like a ghost town.

Here's an approximation of what I'm doing for my doublet, though I'm still debating what to do for details (trim, front closure).

I'm also going to convert a pair of pants into Elizabethan breeches.

As per the conversation, at my faire there is even a Tardis booth, with no shortage of Dr. Who.

The only problem I have is when people wear furry and fetish wear. This spring, a girl wore a cat fursuit -- did not fit at all. And I think a regular is a man who dresses up as a leather dragon costume, then is lead around by his female handler by a leash.

If this was a secluded fetish convention, I'd have no problem with such costumes. But to parade around in leather fetish wear, so kids can see, that's not appropriate.

I went to the MD Renfest last weekend for the first time with a few friends. We had a blast, bought some cool stuff, and ate funnel cake fries washed down with cider. It was great.

I didn't see any cosplays except for a slightly chubby girl dressed in what I think was supposed to be a fem!Link costume. It really looked like she cut a green t-shirt and made the bottom half a skirt with the top part being a crop top, and a hat that was bought off Etsy. It was pretty ugly.

>> No.7815290

Wax obviously won't work, as you can't buff the excess off . Boiling should work, but you would have to be very careful. Hides are usually soaked then scrapped to remove the fur, so handle with care when shaping. I've never tried it myself, so you should probably test out a scrap first.

I consider myself blessed, because I live within three hours of three pretty on point ren faires - kentucky highland in lousiville, o-ren in cincinatti, and fisher's in indianapolis. Fishers and Ohio both have jousts run by the guys who did Fullmetal Jousting (so it is awesome and violent and dangerous and I have *seen* both guys get knocked off their horses simultaneously,) and Kentucky has a fantastic fair ground with tons of trees, awesome musical acts, and some sweet vendors that can't make it in O-ren with their massive over commercialization.

>>7808314
Lolita wouldn't be bad, but it will be hot and you will get dust and sweat all over your clothing. Don't wear something you're afraid to wash.

The only outfits that really piss me off are like... furries, completely stupid anime costumes (fucking naruto) and really shitty Jack Sparrow cosplays (its just... awkward.)

Selfposting because I got back from o-ren today and I'm super proud of my new garb.

My local faire is more fantasy than renaissance but I've often heard people complain about lolitas there. Gothic lolitas are considered acceptable since there's a big goth contingent there anyway and classic lolitas who go more historically accurate Victorian or Rococo are also relatively well liked, but most of my comm is sweet and all the faire folk I know hate them just as much as they hate furries. A year ago there was this huge bitchfest on my FB feed regarding a photo of someone's costume that was apparently "ruined" by the sweet lolita standing in the background. The people who were bitching about her were fine with steampunks and normalfags in the background because, in their words, "at least they fit the colour scheme/aren't disruptive".

So basically it really depends on the ren faire in question. Some might be fine with lolitas, others might secretly hate you for ruining their grimdark experience. You won't know for sure until you ask people involved with that specific faire.

>> No.7820748

I am a lolita and I would never wear lolita to a renfaire just like I would never wear steampunk, or cosplay. It just doesn't fit. Normalfag clothes or medieval/renn/thematic fantasy only. (So I might make an exception for medieval or renaissance themed lolita, but the silhouette would still be wrong, so I think it might still look too strange.)
