I really like these style of blouse Moitie often does. Is it true they also fit a larger bust (I'm a 93cm bust)?

Mmmmmmfff dat picture, OP.

I have this infatuation with velvet/velveteen fabric that I simply cannot find the proper words to describe.

I also really enjoy how stark the contrast is between the ideas in the construction of the photo.

A Japanese person dressed in frilly European-style inspired clothing, covered head to toe in dark colors in broad daylight. How the person manages to present the audience with such a casual disposition in the midst of an atmosphere that seems to be her exact opposite.

She just seems so strangely at home.

Thank you for posting that picture, OP. This is going in my favorite images folder and I'm putting it up in my room.

Every piece of furniture in my house was free or exceedingly cheap. I literally got 6 couches, 3 full size chairs, and dozens of random/plastic chairs for free. If he or you is too lazy to search a bit, then be prepared to throw money at the problem.

On the other hand, my father's couch is $3000. It is a nice fucking couch with lovely bent, steam compressed wood... but fucking $3000 for something to sit and get farted on, I think not.

I've seen some cute dressers going in thrift shops for cheaper then ikea prices. I love poking around in thrift shops since I've seen some nice stuff show up. I've brought up the plain wood and customization before but according to him, the cheaper items are actually not made from real wood and therefore non-customizable (the items we already own certainly aren't) and anything made from real wood is automatically a price class or two above the rest. Maybe it depends on the price of wood in your region? I honestly don't know.

He even turned down my grandmother's awesome old mahogany table because driving two hours both ways to get it (for free!) was too much of a bother. Compared to many other brand and high-end offbrand dresses I own, all the BtSSB dresses I've owned/seen were kind of lacking. Not bad quality as in bad materials or shoddy construction, but they were just.. lacking, in a way. Like only the skirt is lined and lacing details have a really obvious line of stitching cutting right through them. I'll take a shot at explaining

- Baby's standard is to leave the bodice unlined, which isn't bad, but everybody else seems to do full lining, so it looks as if they're cheaping out
- Baby's skirts don't have hidden pockets compared to AP or MmM, which again is not bad per se, just that other brands do it.
- Same with built-in petticoats (AP has them).
- A lot of Baby's designs have the shoulder straps sewn directly into the bodice whereas AP and IW both use buttons (so that you can move the buttons to lengthen the shoulder straps).
- Baby's skirt hem only has 2+m in them, AP has 3m
- Baby doesn't line their waist ties, AP does.

So basically, a good deal of the perception is because it's being compared to other brands that have features it doesn't, not just the quality alone.

Then there's a few of the controversial ones:

- Baby still uses high quality cotton lace, however, newer lolitas seem to prefer custom novelty lace ala AP instead.
- Baby likes to use a particular baniran weave, personally I think this is a plus point because it doesn't pill as much as cotton, but I've heard the fabric described as cheap and scratchy by girls who prefer smooth cotton.

And lastly, the things that Baby definitely does not do well:
- Baby's corset skirts seem to have far more problems compared to Atelier Pierrot's bustle dresses and skirts
- A few of their costume jewellery really looks like etsy-level stuff, such as lace chokers, but they charge burando prices for them.

>> No.7777251

>>7777101
Because they are- in terms of quality, at least. Compared to the other brand I own, their fabric just aren't nice- their cottons tend to have this cheap, starchy feeling, their prints have been notorious for running (this seems to have been fixed in recent years but still), I don't like the ribbon they use in a lot of their pieces, etc. It's just not as nice quality as a lot of the other brands I own, and the only major brands I think I've never owned anything from are JetJ and MmM.

>>7777236
The reason I continue to buy pieces from them is not for the quality but because I like how many details they put into their designs. If it wasn't for that I probably wouldn't have ever bought anything else from them. Which is one thing I have to say annoys me about print IW, is that it often lacks a lot of design detail, where as Baby does all kinds of interesting cuts and trims on theirs.

I just ordered the Loyal Rosette Jsk, and I noticed I mistyped my billing address by one number. Will it matter? AP USA has the whole long thing about only shipping the billing addresses, so I already e-mailed them about the mistake.

It's my first time ordering from AP USA, so I'm not sure what their customer service is like. I've e-mailed them about a release before and they never even replied.

First off, thanks for the rundown.
I disagree with a few of these points, but I guess it's also a style issue.
For example, AP's built in petticoats are the bane of my existence. They're mostly useless and a total bitch to pack for traveling or mailing. Also, I have seen more than one newbie use it as an excuse not to wear an actual petticoat.
And the pockets in AP are nice, but I always carry a bag and rarely actually use the pockets anyhow. Not to mention I feel like they're not super classy (I wouldn't really want my MM to have pockets, for example).
Shoulder straps that can be moved are nice/better, but again, plenty of other brands don't offer these, either.
You're right about waist ties, though. My older pieces are unlined, and most of my other brand pieces are lined. However, my newer Baby dresses both have lined waist ties (but they're also chiffon releases).
I really like the fabric used by Baby. Their cotton pieces feel really solid and nice, compared to some AP that I've owned that actually felt cheap, but again, that's probably a matter of taste.
I definitely think most of Baby's jewelry is shit, but I also really only buy jewelry from JM and AP, the latter only because their novelty stuff is super cute and unique to them.

Ikea's okay for certain things. The game-room in my house has our old Klobbo couch in it (we needed something to sit on while our ACTUAL couch was on back-order)
I also keep my Lolita in a Hemnes wardrobe, it's a bit small so I'll have to buy another, but the doors have recessed panels that I'm gonna inlay with wallpaper once I decide which type I want for my dressing room.
I wouldn't buy a bed from there though. At least not a mattress...

So for the past few weeks, I have been trying to wear lolita on Sunday. I also do a lot of my grocery shopping on Sundays. I have noticed that since wearing lolita while I am out, people have been nicer to me. Complete strangers. For example, at two different grocery stores a random guy offered to take my cart back. An employee helped me put my food in my own bags, when normally they wouldn't care less. I also have had more people greet me or say hello. I mean, I still have people who will look at me and then quickly look away, but that's pretty rare. Has anyone else noticed this while wearing lolita? I am classic lolita, so it may be different for sweet or gothic.

You're pretty much in the minority. Most of these are points that I've seen dragged up over and over by other girls in burando quality discussion threads, with Baby on the losing side.

Of course, it's all a matter of comparison. If you really want to see where the $300 you pay for the dress goes to, put Baby's dress next to a H&M dress or a F21 dress. You'll really see how high end Baby's clothes really are (lolita clothing in general, I'd say).

You may need to draw a line in the sand and define how fancy is fancy, because I'm not sure if you want to include bonnets, or if you're specifically asking about, say, floor length dresses with many ruffles that cost $3000, or something in between.

As for myself, I bought bonnets about a year or two into the hobby after I was sure I liked lolita, and I bought the series that I really liked.

As for fancy dresses, I'm an AP fangirl, so pretty much I follow AP trends. I missed the tea party special dresses and had to settle for the non tea party versions. Latest fancy dress I bought is Crystal Dream Carnival's onepiece. Some day I imagine I might be able to throw down $1000 for one of btssb's special wedding-style ruffle dresses.

For example, when Antique Cutlery went up all of the items had been transferred to the English site on time except for the socks for the series(I couldn't wait much longer for fear they would sell out, so I copied the Japanese item into my order, and still got them).

That's rude, the sale's already complete and you put the seller in a conflicting position. Think of it this way: Anybody would give negative feedback to a seller who sold them a dress, but then backed out because there was a better offer made to them later. It just lacks courtesy.

Same if I was selling something, sold it, and someone commented on my post after the sale. I have sold the item (I usually sell it cheaper anyways) and always feel bad when someone asks if the item has sold.

>"Anybody would give negative feedback to a seller who sold them a dress, but then backed out because there was a better offer made to them late"

That is just dickish. No one would do that. If you are buying something that is your money to spend, so as soon as you've spent that money and you've spent it. You find a better deal? Boo-fucking-hoo, most shops give different deals, that is just how life and retail works. You can't just so "Oh sorry buyer but this girl offered me it cheaper after I've paid for my item, can I have a refund to buy it from them instead?" NO. I have only seen this happen once and it was done by a 14 year old who wasn't happy with paying $5 more in shipping cost's. Most people just have buyer remorse but are happy to have the item they've bought, people don't leave bad feedback JUST BECAUSE someone was selling something cheaper.

Again, shit your asshole and lurk. Pay attention to what people are reposting as good examples of each substyle in inspiration threads, see what's getting critiqued and why (nitpick threads are good for this), and learn to distinguish between what belongs in the ita and what belongs in the nitpick threads. Ita threads should have no nitpicking and you shouldn't have to justify posting something there so that should be your foundation for what not to do.

Also, it's not that decora "isn't exactly lolita", it's that it's not lolita at all and if you weren't even able to make that distinction then you need to do a lot more research. If you want more advice on Jfashion in general get it out of this fucking thread.

Generally they don't restock after a colorway sells out but you'll have to watch each release to know for sure (for example, AP's Day Dream Carnival line had a made-to-order run because there was a super high demand for it...that's a super rare case though). Your best bet is to lurk the plus size tumblr/fb and try to wade past the terrible replicas. From personal experience (same height, 1cm larger bust) a very few brand pieces will fit you. (Disclaimer that I actually have no idea what my hip measurement is, but it's never been an issue.)
AP: Melty Donut, Holy Lantern, and Wonder Queen jsks
Baby: any of the full shirring jsks and blouses
Meta: most of the full shirring jsks but be careful that some of them have really short bodices
IW: some of the stuff that says it's >118cm in bust either isn't actually, or it is but won't sit right

You will probably also need to invest in underskirts since you're on the tall side.

If you check out gorgeouspluslolita on tumblr, look past the parade of ita and find their "plus size friendly brand" page for some options.

If you can get down to 110-112cm bust your options increase quite a bit (that's what I'm trying to do, personally - of course I seem to be losing slowly and everywhere but my bust)

H-hey anons, if you ask reeeeaaaally nicely, would MaidenClothing split a set for you? They're selling a reasonably popular full set for an outrageous price I doubt anyone's gonna go for, so the specific piece probably won't be reentering the market anytime soon. And the full set contains an accessory I've been searching all of the sales communities for, only to realize it hasn't been sold on English sites since 2012 and who knows about Japanese sites. Should I try emailing them or is it just a waste of my time?

Buy a bra to stuff with that particular dress, and for future purchases make sure the dress you want doesn't have boob pockets unless you want to wear the bra with that too. Some brands are notorious for their relatively roomy boobspace (MM comes to mind) and others sometimes cut their bodices like tubes that only flatter girls with really small chests (IW and BtSSB do this a lot). Learn to recognize those cuts and pounce on them when they appear!
And if the 'emptiness' of a particular dress is less pronounced and you don't want to wear a bra with it, you can just wear a bolero that hides that area completely.

It was pretty damaged (stains, missing pompoms, etc.), and that skirt (at least used to) only go for 300-600.

I second NOT going to Victoria's Secret. I got fitted there and they told me I was some crazy small size for how big my boobs were. Not that I have giant boobs, but I have always heard that most women wears bras that are too small for them, so I was surprised that they said I wore like an A or B cup. I tried the bra on and it was hilariously small, like the tops AND bottoms of my boobs were squeezing out of the cups.

Left and got fitted at a department store, where they said I was a D cup. Never again, Victoria's Secret. I also think I have heard that they size their bras differently than standard sizing.

i think they have "higher" sizing standards. so they downsize you.. i guess. makes no sense. shit there is so expensive i rather just buy cutie bra sets from tutuanna or taobao

Boob anon checking in--ended up going with the first suggestion and finding an easily stuffable "seamless bralette" that doesn't feel like it's murdering my ribcage and a pair of jiggly cutlet things. Push-ups ended up being out of the question (anything with wires, actually); with my chest defect + overall lack of tissue they were all killing me in the sternum and it was not a good thing.

Thanks everybody that chimed in to help out. I was so excited when I put my dress on and it actually looked how it was supposed to. There were happy tears. Feels good, man.

Yup. I had the same experience at VM. I ended up getting remeasured something completely different in Aerie - which I prefer because their aesthetics are cuter and more suitable for twenty-something years old and under. Even if I could fit VM's standards, I couldn't justify spending $40 on a bra with shitty rachel lace as the band's fabric, let alone as trimmings.

Is it acceptable to wear a sweater under a JSK or salopette? I love sweaters and would really love to incorporate them in but I don't want to look like a total ita in the process.

This AP corset skirt is 64-70 cm on the waist, there is shirring yes but i'm not sure if the max is really 70 cm and my waist is also 70.

If you wear a cute turtleneck sweater like the ones you see on taobao with lace, flowers and cute appliques i bet it would look really good. A plain turtleneck sweater could also look ok but it's too plain in my opinion.

Try looking on Nissen - they do wire-free padded ones so you don't need to have separate stuffing...
