don't have experience with it but what I found out handling different kind of larp weapons is that if the grip/handle/pommel/etc has way too much detail and the blade don't then probably the weapon is shit. I've found only a very few example to this rule of thumb

hey guys, im relatively new to LARPing, and was just looking for some basics to kick start my costume - would it be cheaper and easier to make my own cloak, or is there a reliable seller where i could find one thats not totally terrible for under $100? and any good sites for grabbing simple white blouses with ties at the top and kinda puffy sleeves? ive been scanning ebay but ive come up pretty short... any suggestions would be much appreciated!

for 100 usd you can buy at least 2 pimped up perfect cloaks or probably 6-7 normal ones. Or buy the fabric and everything and make ~15.
Also I wouldn't recommend ebay for these kind of stuff but I don't really like sites like ebay so there is that.
But there are a lot of larp shops that sells cloths too, overpriced of course.
If you can sew or know someone who can sew it's better to make them yourself or with get a friend who make it

Finished the scabbard and suspension for my Messer. It is made of vegetabile cured leather and lined with goatskin (pelt?) on the inside.

Yeah but they captured the Thule banner in return. The retreat from the field was a savage fight. On the saturday we were told to hold back and just match the speed of the players as they went for the Gate. On Sunday, the Thule fought us the entire way back. From what I've heard the Orcs were let off their leash to fight us all the way back was because we took and held the Fort far too well.
The Refs thought we had roflstomped the Thule even though most folks had burned their Hero Points, the healers had burned their herbs and mana.
I got captured by the Thule on the way back as I tried to hold off 8 Orcs when my non-com Thane wen't down. Got smacked down, but when I got lifted up by the Orcs I used Unstoppable to stop me bleeding to death as they ransomed me back

Depends on the LARP group. Some emphasize the fantasy/rp part and some are more stick jock culture. What I would suggest is if you are interested in joining is to look around at your local groups and see if there is anything interesting in your area.

Trust me when I say that there are at least a dozen "big name" LARP groups just in the United States for just fantasy.

I've been going to every event since E3 last year. Really enjoy the system, although the scale of it means if you want plot then you have to look for it. Started Odyssey this year too, it was different as in you'll be minding your own buisiness then someone will beat you round the face with a plot crowbar.

Also last event was hilarious. One of the giant marquees nearly ended up in the clouds because of Bertha.

I got invited to a pseudo-japanese themed larp. Think Legend of Five Rings or MTG: Kawigama setting.

I was asked to be an NPC for two characters, a murderous wandering Ronin (on account competitive Kendo background) and possibly painting myself red, and running around drunk in a "tiger skin" skirt being an oni, because I am big and drink a lot and can cause wanton asshattery

There is no way this will not be not-weeby. It is the nature of the beast. It does beg the question if I should do it, and be as over-the-top in character as possible. Suggestions?

Can someone help me find a fantasy heavy larp around me? I'm moving soon, and I really, really want to get into larping.
Some I looked around my area, and the only thing I can find is a couple of groups who meet up in normalfag clothes and hit each other with foam sticks.

I want something more focused on the fantasy/rp part. I'm total fine with combat, but I don't want to stand out because I'm the only one in costume.
I'm moving to Omaha, NE.. And totally willing to drive 3-4 hours for a great group.
I'm just getting so frustrated since I'm really excited for the fantasy part, and all I can find is a bunch of people who don't care about it.

that's one of the organizers, same as the guy on the right. they are surprisingly easy to ignor during the game but if you need the very easy to find because of the black shirt and red hat. I mean most of the time you doesn't even realize they are there because you have way more stuff to do but when you WANT to find one you just have to look for the red hat.
Also that was before the final battle and they are checking the people as we leave the camp if anyone has anything on them that could be dangerous. Mugs left hanging on the costume, bottles, real knifes etc.

there are different kind of organizers at Drachenest. Some of them indeed have costumes and stuff like that. Some are just assigned to a camp and there are the red hat organizers as you can see on the picture. Plus there are the construction team and the medics but you won't see them during the game if everything goes right.
