I need a red wig that can be pulled into kind of high pigtails, but don't really want to pay $40 for Arda's chibi wig. It's for a group cosplay that I'm not super interested in and I'm already dropping like $40 on the fabric for it. Anyone know of something similar on Taobao?

That's a fucking terrible idea. Wefts are a bitch to make properly and if you want the top of your head to not look like shit you're going to have to hand tie thousands of fibers to lace. People cry and give up just altering a lace-front. Loose fiber can be bought anywhere, if you really want to go this route. Even Sally's has kanekelon. Amphigory and Doctored Locks carry it too - don't get the crimped, jumbo braids unless that's the look you want.

Why can't you just frankenstein a couple wigs together like the rest of us do? I guarantee it will look better in the end.

So...I'll be wearing my first wigs at Otakon. Are you supposed to stick sections of the bangs together or just let the wind take care of it? I don't want to have straight-across bangs on a character than just has "regular" bangs. Right now my Nagisa (Clannad) wig has got2b very lightly pinched on the ends to "section" the bangs but idk if I should reinforce it...

>> No.7735557

Depends on the look you want. for someone like Nagisa I wouldn't do more than that, you want her fringe to look slightly separated but not overdone. For series with structures/crazier hair I put a bit of superglue on the fringe ends to keep the sections together.

Has anyone seen a particularly good wig color for Sumia? Most cosplayers for her have to compromise by erring on the side of pink or brown. Epic Cosplay doesn't have good blends for it, and Arda's similar blends are restricted to wig styles that wouldn't work for it at all.

I bought a plain black short wig from Five Wits at a con and I liked it. Not super shiny like a lot of black wigs and spiked without too much convincing. I wish they would focus on more base wigs than super specific characters wigs.

Not directed at you specifically, but what ever happened to dying wigs? Everyone seems to just go with pre-made blends over alcohol solutions and sharpies. Yeah, that's what I was hoping for - the easier route. We may have to take the dyeing route if we're still turning up nothing (trying to help a friend out for this one). I swear "milk tea" colored wigs were popular a while ago, but they seem scarce nowadays.

I beg to differ here. Arda wigs are okay out of the bag but Epic Cosplay wigs are better if you're doing heavy altering. EC's wigs are thicker, they restock more often, their customer service is better, and they have less of that shitty short frizzy fiber that makes restyling a bitch.

How should I go about creating this wig? I feel like her hair is shorter than the hair that is up, so I was thinking of either getting wefts and sewing them in or just getting a long clip in and styling it. Not true. They sometimes have the same supplier. And when they order from the same supplier sometimes they order wig styles that do not come in the same fibers.

5 Wits literally looks in tons of catalogs, picks whichever wig fits a character they want to sell and sells it. This is why if you buy one of their wigs, the next wig might feel different. Its kinda like EBay, you gotta just hope you picked a wig that was made well.

>> No.7737538

>>7736407
I disagree. Every time I try to style EC wigs after only a little hairspray I can't get the wig to look how I want and it looks greasy.

Arda's fibers are so coarse and take hairspray really well. But honestly, that's probably just a preference.

>> No.7737545

I've never dyed so here's an idea before someone experienced can chime in-
It kind of sucks that you're going dark to light rather than dark ends. Maybe try dip dying upside down? Buy a weft to test on, since you'd be layering dye. Dip it scalp down deep in pink, then more shallowly in the darker blue color. Then after it dries, you could flip it back over and dip the ends in yellow.
How do the bangs on the figurine look? Shiro in the show has pretty subtle color, looking white most of the time. If your dying was very subtle, maybe a bit of bleeding wouldn't show so much. But if you want to go dramatic like the figurine and the novel covers, it'd probably require a more steady hand.

1. Try and get a lacefront wig with bangs that already are pushed back from the face.
2. Make sure you make the hairline, sortof like what OP's pic is like, same concept, or else it'll look terrible.
3. If you're completely lost, use a base wig, such as the one in pic related, and do step 2 with some extra wefts in the same colour. I personally like this one because it doesn't have the stupidly large volume other Lloyd wigs have, and is still open to do custom styling on.

I'm considering cosplay Annie of the Stars from Skullgirls. I haven't really been able to find a shade I like for her hair, they're either too dark teal or a more mint shade. Anyone know any wigs stores that sell a shade similar to hers? Should I I just dye a wig myself? Should I settle for a teal wig?

Back in the early 2000s, Amphigory was the absolute go to in terms of wigs for cosplay. I can vouch for their integrity despite the sketchiness of their site (it has literally never been updated since the early 2000s).
>Pros
The woman who runs the site definitely runs it well. Great customer service, and she communicates with you a lot if she ever has questions about your order.
They are great for natural looking styles and colors, which because of the way wig vendors seem to be moving more towards "every shade of the pastel rainbow and it all looks like a milkshake or candy, even if it's a supposed 'natural' color~~!" That can be a God send.
They are the only vendor I know of that currently carries New Look at a reasonable price (rip Cosworx), and New Look carries one of the few wigs I've ever been able to cut into a realistic men's style.
They also sell tasty smelling incense, and very good lipstick.

>Cons
They are outdated, plain and simple. They come from a time where wigs and cosplay was moe about sewing six "ready to wear" wigs together and dyeing it for the perfect shade by hand. Their stock reflects this.
They don't accept paypal.
They don't keep the wigs in stock, so it can be a bit of a wait for a wig, since you have to wait for it to be sent to Amphigory first, and THEN to you. You can elect to drop ship directly from a few of the suppliers, but depending on where you live, sometimes it doesn't make much difference.
As far as I know they do not ship international?

But anyways, they are legit. There was a time where their "Femme Fatale" and "Enchantment" wigs were literally the base of of pretty much any wig creation you ever saw in the cosplay world. I still order from them from time to time, and they forever have a place in my heart as an old cosplay fart, but I definitely think that they simply cannot compete with the more modern wig vendors in many ways.

Volks went with a platinum blonde for their official SD-size doll, but her plastic figurines have grey hair, and most doll owners who make a "Suigintou" use either a silver-grey wig or a white wig. I'm in favour of silvery-grey myself, but I'd say use whichever one of these colours goes best with your skin tone so that you look nice in photos. Whichever colour you use, you can point to the SD doll, her figurine, or her ambigious colour in the anime as your reasoning anyway, might as well take advantage of the confusion and make yourself look pretty.

They were already tangled when I took them out of the package. I tried combing trough them while spraying them with silicone spray, but then I combed the spiral curls out at the end and now the tips are frizzy as well. So I remade the curls with hairspray but it's still not smooth and I can't comb it out like this. What should I do? How does one get gorgeous smooth Shinku hair? Comb it out and section it into the pieces you want to be spiked together. Liberally spray each section with Got 2 B freeze spray and style it into the spike, then use a hairdryer on a low setting to help the hairspray dry. Parts of it might need a trim, so make sure you hold your scissors parallel to the hair when you cut or you'll end up with big ugly blunt ends.

Don't use Got2B unless you want the wig to look like a ball of grease. Regular hairspray works just fine and looks a bit more natural. Spray the wig lightly, shape the spikes with your fingers and then spray some more while applying some heat with a hairdryer in order to make the shape stay.
This is what my Komaeda wig looked like when half done, and all it took was some regular (dry) hairspray, a hairdryer and a lot of patience. It held out fine during the con too, didn't need to fix it even once.

Thanks for the heads up, I'm looking into buying a black wig. Are there any shops you're looking at instead of matchwigs?

I'm thinking of just buying Arda right now because it's safe, but I feel like I don't have to spend that much money for a simple black wig that will end up being loosely braided.

>> No.7768029

So you ordered a black wig and it came grey? Double check your receipt that it says 'black' as well as the tags on the wig (if it came with any). Email them again with a pic of those if they don't match. If that doesn't work, you can try opening a claim with you CC co, but I doubt you'll get far. Honestly, if you just need a true black, it's really not that hard to dye it.

Alright here's my idea for you. It'll require a lot of work on your end but this is what I would do to make it look subtle.
I would make a foam base and hide it under the hair. Since her hair is pretty dark it should be pretty easy for you to pull off without it looking hysterical. Then hoping that your wig has some heat resistance to it I would take a flat iron and flip out the ends of the wig so they bounce off eachother instead of just falling straight down on your foam base and your costume. Hairspray each strand individually after you flip out the end and stay away from intense heat (don't leave this wig in your car).
Give it a couple of coats of hairspray when you're done too. Just... a lot of coats.
I've illustrated here where you would incorporate the foam into the wig. They could be very small and easily concealed, they exist only to billow out your hair more. If you wanted to go hardcore about it you could even have them attach to your shoulder under her sailor collar so it would flutter when you move your shoulder and walk and whatnot, but that's only if you want to go hardmode. Putting those foam bases on the wig itself should look just as good in pictures and such.
Hope this helps! Tell me if it doesn't.

Get your wig wet and style it with a blowdryer. You're going to brush the sides out with a brush and put your hairdryer to it while you do so. Brush the hair towards the face while you blowdry and hell it'll be even easier if you wear the wig while you do this. Then get some dry wax and work it into the roots of the hair and pull the bangs and sides towards your face for the ruffled look.
Epic Cosplay wigs should be fine to go over with a blowdryer, especially with how fast wigs dry.

How would someone style their hair/wig like Karen Araragi from the Monogatari series?

I have natural black hair down past my shoulders (but no bangs)and despite that I'm considering buying a wig which would save me some problems on her one strand that sticks out.

I would get a clip on for the side pony. As for the part coming from her head you could do that with your natural hair. Blow Dry your hair like normal and hold that one particular strand up, dry it with a tight pull to give it volume. Then take a comb and tease it numerous times and brush it out. Spray some hair spray and go over it with a flat iron and you should be good.
As for the side pony just put it in some rollers and let it sit over night, you should be good anon!

I'm planning to wear this wig (pic related, what I'm going to buy) for a non-cosplay reason, and I figured that this thread was the place to ask. I'm sure you guys have heard this question /a lot/, but I've never owned a wig before, and I'm worried that the net simply won't hold my hair in place. Or that the wig would fall off if I hang my head down too low.

Do your hair in pin curls, really close to your head. Try not to bunch it all in the back, it'll make your head oddly shaped.
I usually hairspray everything a shit ton after I put all my hair up. Then pin the net to me hair.. Wigs are fairly secure as long as you aren't tugging on it. It won't fall off your head.
Pin the wig through the mesh with appropriately colored bobby pins if you're worried about it.

Style the wig wet with a blow dryer, holding pieces of the wig straight up to make spikes that will lay flat when you let go.
Then work some Molding Wax (Bedhead Manipulator is the best for this) into the roots for volume and layers. Finish by putting some of the manipulator on your fingers, rubbing them together and piecing out the ends of the wig to make it spiky.

Then you'll have a natural looking animu wig. Great job!

Well, with that material, it probably won't be as light and flippy as you want it to be.
I've worked with those types of wigs in person, and they don't tend to hold spray well, which is what you'd need to splay the ends out like the pic you initially posted.
Is it heat resistant? Would curling the ends out work, or is that also a no?

I'd recommend Arda's Magnum Long in either Rose pink or Bubblegum, if you want a color thats less the Dolluxe pink and more Haruko pink.

Arda's stuff is heat resistant and holds hairspray well, so they're very easily styled. Also, they're naturally kind of flippy with just a little bit of styling or none at all.

They're 30$ a pop though, so that's something to consider.

You could probably, with very very careful layering, get the wig you already own to look like you want it to, but with how flat those kinds of wigs lay, I'm doubtful.

I hope I'm not being too offputting; I'm just sharing my experiences and warning you before you cut it up.

If you're up for it, you can do something like this http://taiyowigs.deviantart.com/art/Gon-wig-from-HunterxHunter-368974250 but with a silver (don't worry, it's almost white) wig dyed green for the base and add black wefts. Otherwise, get the black one if you don't mind not having green, or get the silver one and dye it. This isn't going to be cheap, but you're asking to do a complex design quickly, so you're going to have to do what you can if you want it done right.

I have never styled a wig. How do I make an adult size wig fit my five year old's head? She wants to codplay chibi moon. I know wigs are usually adjustable but I still think it's going to look off. Should I be thinking about making one from scratch? Should I make some neon pink yarn pony falls and tell her to knock herself out? I don't think I can bring myself to do that...

She's five. It'll be fine whatever you do. If you're really stressed, you can get child-sized wigs from costume shops. Shouldn't be hard this time of year.

The quality won't be great and you'll have to splice wigs and do some heavy styling though.

Basically, what you need to ask yourself is how much work you want to put into a costume/wig that she won't be able to wear long, since she's probably growing like a weed.

Anyone know if volumizing powder also works on wigs?

Anybody here ever worked with Arda's pink colors? I'm looking to get a chibi for Madoka, and baby pink looks like an okay color, but it seems to change so much from picture to picture in the customer gallery for that color. Any advice, seagulls?

Where can I buy cute mousey brown wigs that could be styled into twin buns? The style-ability is more important to me than the color if I had to pick one.

It would be for Lolita use!

most wigs have adjustable straps, so try one of your wigs on her.

if you really wanted to be sure, you could always purchase a color wheel. they sell all the wig colors in a wheel and i think it would come in handy later on too!

So I attempted cutting the bangs on a wig for the first time. It did not go well.

Is there any way to salvage a butchered wig? I was trying to make pic related and ended up looking like a lawnmower ran me over.

>> No.7809627

>>7809621
Hard to say without seeing the wig, anon. Got any photos of exactly *how* you butchered it?

General tips for cutting a wig:

>never cut straight across, always angle the scissors upwards into the strands; the fibres will be harder to control, slide away and get cut at the wrong point otherwise
>use alligator clips to section hair so you don't accidentally cut parts you want longer
>work in small sections and check these against the rest of the wig regularly
>flatten these sections with your fingers, the way you would cut your own, real hair
>make sure your wig head is the same size as your head, OR only cut the parts near the face while wearing it, to make sure that the length will be right

The baby pink has lavender in the fiber blend, so its a cooler pink. I've also bought light and bubblegum pink, they're a bit warmer and paler than baby.

What's the difference between Ardas white and silver wigs? In every picture I see, the colors look nearly identical. Is there a more noticeable difference in real life? Is one shade better on certain skin tones?

I main this guy on Guilty Gear. Sweet!

Anyhow. Get something with long bangs but short everything else. I can't think of any pre-made wigs so you might have to do some searching on where to find a wig good for him.
As far as styling tease it straight up like a mohawk, then style it to the size.

I'd recommend getting a lacefront wig and adding wefts where you can to give you more bulk to work with. Teasing/backcombing in the right places should get you some "poof" for styling. Probably going to need some sort of inner support for that curl though.

it's a bit small but here's a tutorial! Its from cosmode 49 if you want to go looking for bigger images. And as for a base wig, maybe Arda's morpheus in ash blonde?

I've never styled a wig before. So I have a $40 heat resistant yellow wig from Beauty Outlet. It feels pretty nice. The shape is an angled bob with straight bangs.

How do I even begin to style this? I was thinking of making it lightly spiky, but I'm terrified of cutting it.

Keep it really light, with something like styrofoam as a base. Maybe those big foam cones they sell for flowers at michaels? Use combs at the front hairline and pin the hell out of it.

Also that hairstyle looks pretty similar to Bayonetta's so I would look up some wig tutorials for her.

Would foam or cardboard work better as a base? My friend thinks foam would be too flakey, but I'm afraid cardboard it just gonna be overall shit. Pic related, they used a cady from arda and made the spike out cardboard.

>> No.7817850

>>7817829
thats a great spike, but i would prefer the tip to be sharper.
you friend is probably right.the foam would be easy to snap, while if you cover the cardboard base with a sealant, it will be really stiff and sturdy. foam would just chip away and eventually get all over the place.
just make sure you glue your hair wefts on neatly. good luck.

Are the braids on Arda's Leia long enough to wrap around your head?

>> No.7819143

>>7818470
they should be and they look to be about the right thickness and length. They might just be a little heavy. Good choice. if youre really worried about the length though you could buy one of the longer styles, braid it and cut off the excess.
