Most of these people are probably too full of themselves to even know how to take criticism even if it's constructive. Confronting them wouldn't do anything but make things worse.

Depends on how famous you want. The most well-known of cosplayers usually get that way because their drama spreads like wildfire. There's a lot of quality cosplayers with big followings who obviously don't get the same level of hate, but I wouldn't say everyone on CGL knows their names.

I'm curious about this too since I only follow/like drama-free cosplayers, but every thread about it always turns to shit.

Chances are that you would be respected within your community but not have that sex appeal factor that would elevate you to getting noticed on a larger scale.

You can do the aggressive self-promotion route ("like my page to enter contests," getting other people to share your page, doing skimpy shit, updating several times a day to make sure it gets on other people's feeds, or buying likes)... or you can not do that shit, mind your own business, focus on building a good portfolio of well-documented costumes, and be a good role model.

There are some solid costumers out there who get a good amount of followers. Making tutorials and sharing your methods helps, because you're building your value as someone who shares knowledge with your community.
