>> No.7732202

Toko just ended. Shitstorm coming over masquerade results after girl with hat, plaid skirt and very mundane singing voice wins over a good 4 or 5 deserving cosplays. Pictures to come soon.

>> No.7732227

>>7732202
That would be me. I was actually pretty surprised that I won, there were definitely better costumes there and I literally had one stocking on because the other didn't arrive in the post, lel. I can only offer that the judges were maybe more inclined to vote on performance because there were so few skits? Also if my singing voice is really that offensive to you, you must not have been there for Simple and Clean in 2012. I wasn't actually sure whether to enter because I didn't want to be that guy but my mates egged me on so here we are.

At the end of the day it's up to the judges and there's not a lot anyone else can do about it. I was hoping for maybe a mention for performance (I was under the impression it was a different category) but I thought that Jinx was the best cosplay, personally.

>>7732227
Oh- and something else probably worth mentioning, I literally told the signup girl that it was a closet cosplay. She asked if i made it and I was like 'I just kind of cobbled it together out of stuff I bought'. So I don't know if that was passed onto the judges or not, but if it was, that's a bit poor. Performance shouldn't be overriding costume in a costume contest, if they want to recognise it it should be as a separate winner. When I came off my friend said she thought I would win it and I said that I doubted that because it's not a handmade costume, given the nature of Toko I would expect hard work/enthusiasm to have a higher weight in judging. It's only Toko though, it's not like I accidentally won WCG with Yaya glowering in the background in £30,000 of ballgown and armour.

>> No.7732244

>>7732242
I was under the impression Toko did 1st, 2nd, 3rd in Costume and Perfomance. But maybe they changed it because it's hit and miss what enters.

Someone ask Foxy unless he's not in charge anymore?

>> No.7732247

>>7732244
Yeah, I seem to remember separation of costume and performance in 2012, I'm not sure why they'd change in in a contest where most of the entrants weren't doing any kind of performance at all and probably weren't expecting it to factor into judging (if they cared about winning in the first place)

That closing ceremony tho. It surpassed even Kitacon's auction surprise closing in terms of length. Really not acceptable when you've already been sitting there for half an hour listening to bloody Frozen. I don't care how funny the comperes are, sitting on the floor cross legged when you're over the age of 10 is a pain when it's for more than a few minutes.

Officially they'll say they can't accept anyone under 13 for legal reasons, but as those kids don't get given badges I don't think the committee can do anything about them being on site. As long as they don't enter events I think it's a non-issue but I do think it's a bit obnoxious. When that kid started screaming during closing and everyone was like "awww" I was baffled. I think we have a better ratio of weebs to actual human beings than most conventions. Generally the scene is relaxed (ignore the aura of drama as that's only on 4chan) and people are welcoming. A lot of congoers will say they don't really watch anime anymore and just go for tradition. In my ten+ years of attending cons (relative newbie here) I've had encounters with maybe two weebs/manic fans/ sperglords.
I would say avoid the expo like the plague - its popular to the point that its just queuecon, its harder to meet people and make lasting friendships because its impossible to find people again, and it has too many kids and attracts the most weebs. Anon I think you're being stubborn for no real reason. You can set privacy sky high and you don't have to fill your profile with any personal information. Just a name and a nice profile picture will do. You can have something artistic as your banner if you don't want to plaster it with pictures of yourself.

Putting your favourite character or something from an anime tends to send out weeby signals.

But once you have a profile you can join groups to chat.

Skype and all other messengers have profile sections that list things like your name and birthday and had ID pictures. They also have the capacity to post twitter esque snapshot status' which is essentialy facebook in a software format.

So when you say you want an 80% online friendship what do you propose to use?

You have the exact same level of control with Facebook as you do with Skype. But if it makes you uncomfortable anon then you'll just have to see if you can find a gem in various forums or meet people irl at cons and some away with their skype handles.

You could try online gaming or multiplayer console gaming. But the per-requisite for that is an interest in a game with these features.

Well if your interests are Japanese related then you could check out Winter Hyper Japan as the non-dealer related stuff is much more easy access than at the London MCM where everything is kind of spread out now.

London Film and Comic Con (LFCC) and London MCM Comiccon (formerly MCM Expo and most still call it Expo) are only a week apart this year, at the end of October and there's not really a lot to do, so not a great call to be social. Though even if you're not a cosplayer it's easy enough to strike up a conversation with someone who is if they're cosplaying from something you like, it's a great ice breaker.

But if you want something to be deliberately social at you'd have to go for a 'con'. I wouldn't recommend going to chibi-Ame if you're disabled as the hotel has a terrible reputation. I'm not sure even Ayacon levels of awesome could save that.

There'll be Minamicon in March and Kitacon in August I think. There's plenty of activities and things like quizes to get people into teams. Some groups will come with the intention of sticking together but they'll open up enough if you join in I find.

Of course there's always exceptions, that's life and it's gunna be hit and miss based on your personality.

If anime and Japanese stuff isn't really your thing there's a selection of cons for other things. I hear 11th Hour is returning if you're into Doctor Who but all of those events tend to be a c. £100 ticket for not a lot of content. More paying for the garuantee to meet what billed guests turn up and have a picture with them. There's ones for Twilight and Supernatural etc. But the guest lists never have the main stars and you're better off just turning up at the hosting hotel and chilling in the bar to socialise than you are paying for entry to rooms that basically have nothing in them.

There are various mini festivals and events around the UK that are more localized but without knowing your location I can't recommend anything and honestly unless you're in my catchment area then I still wouldn't be able to recommend anything.

However most of what I hear about I hear through facebook so again you're deliberately blocking yourself off from what is the hub of social media now.

You can argue that you don't use it for whatever reason but no one's going to shift off of facebook for you. People have tried to run sites listing events and separate forums but facebook allows you to do so much more without relying on mailing lists and e-mails reminding you that someone's posted in your topic that everyone defaults there in the end anyway.

Even if you just use it as a way in and get people's skype contacts from there then there's really not a lot left to recommend.

If you're artsy you can post on deviantart and post in groups there and get into that community and there's various other art posting sites but that's the most popular/well known. DA also runs word wide meets every now and then where a bunch of DA users meet up to trade handles and meet people face to face and sit around a draw. It was pretty chill the one time I went and they gave out free DA lanyards which was pretty cool if you like free memorabilic tat.

If you like books you could browse reviews and comments and forums on goodreads. They have groups too, reading groups and themed groups where you can meet like minded readers.

There aren't really many book conventions in the UK, I mentioned the Twilight con above but it's more an excuse to pump the Twilight fandom for easy money rather than a serious attempt at a con.

London Film and Comic Con does now play host to what is being call Young Adult Literature Con. Which is basically a corner of the hall with booths to meet authors at and a small stage area where authors give panels and workshops.

There's various book festivals around the UK but again I'd need a better idea of your catchment area to recommend anywhere.

We apologise most deeply that it has come to this. As we are must settle our open accounts before dealing with refunds, it may not be possible to do these in full. We will be appointing an Insolvency Practitioner, who will be your first and only point of contact in regards to refunds. We hope to have a final answer regarding this by May 19th.

He disappears every once in a while because Kelly treats him so badly but he always goes running back to her like a love sick puppy. He gets on with everyone and he's stood up for girls at cons when guys have been creepy.

Lucas is a slimy shady date rapist-looking bro who keeps trying to pressure girls who have boyfriends into going over his house to pose naked for him. Can we not encourage this kind of harassment educing behaviour?

Regardless of what the named example, Ai Honey, has or hasn't done (and a substantial amount, if not all, is actually no ones business but those directly involved) encouraging this behaviour for one individual perpetuates the idea that it's okay for everyone and anyone so long as at least one individual judges that they 'deserve' it.

But really these kind of comments and behaviour will never say as much about her as it does about you anons.

Please stay classy and at least keep your personal dignity even if you don't like someone.

Sage because the mention of this behaviour makes me think of those revenge sites.

I like looking at the slow train crash that is Kelly, but I think this revenge porn is really distasteful. She is very lucky she doesn't live in the States where places are allowed to fire you for this. It amounts to harassment.

I don't know many girls who haven't done something on camera for their boyfriends or whatever, and I doubt all these people getting high and mighty about it are as pure holy virgins as they make out. The person posting these is a dickhead here, not Kelly for having her trust broken.

Holy fuck when did /cgl/ became tumblr? She slept with a married man, bragged about it, and actively put down his wife and insulted her in public. She deserves to be gangraped, she can deal with some revenge porn and suck it the fuck up because if she doesn't want this kind of attention she shouldn't go around acting like such a fucking whore. People sleeping around and sending nudes is whatever, it's a free country, but the lack of respect she showed for Volpin's wife is vile. >>7760720
I'm not saying what she did is right. And I don't know any of the parties involved so can't and won't comment. But no one deserves to be gang raped. No one deserves to be raped at all.

I do wonder what Volpin's wife is like now that you mention it though. Though I agree AH's behaviour does sound vile.

But encouraging mass harassment...that's not right either. However much anyone tries to justify it.

For the same reasons I said before. Continuing to propagate this kind of response makes it seem like it's okay. And then it will get used for anyone and everyone and there's no scale and no thought to the consequences.

We all know AH has a pretty thick skin. Or at least thick enough that she posts sarcastic responses on here. If that's what you're all fishing for, good for you.

But there are much weaker people in the world and mistakes do happen. And there have been so many cases where this kind of mass harassment has lead to suicides. Whether it's cheating girls, or angry ex boyfriends or unpopular girls or gay guys or anyone.

So if you feel you absolutely must support this kind of road anon...well you're right, it's a free country, you go right ahead.

But it feels very wrong to me.

Now she's getting people banned from conventions and when someone beats her in a contest she slanders them until they have to be disqualified and she wins just so the company can save face. I mean fuck, she probably 'leaked' that photo herself.

If you want to grab photos while you're on the con floor best thing to do is make friends with other cosplayers and ask who takes their photos and if that person happens to be around. Togs at cons are used to being grabbed off the floor for some quick photos. If you don't know anybody, seek out Nert. He's at every event and is solid and friendly. If he's not available, look for Foxy. He's a dickhead but he gets shit done. Next step up are Sonesh and Sebastian. They do real pro work but they don't go to everything. If you want more like a full photoshoot and you're female and pretty you could try the SCG guys.
