Guys who jump on the yaoi bandwagon so they can start appealing to fujoshit: I thought it was great at first but it's gotten annoying realllllll fast because the few male cosplayers who do fanservice cosplays are so arrogant, and they're not even that good looking.

I mean same goes with the girl attention-whores but there's been so many of those it's kinda all in the background for me now.

And some yaoi shoots (and the thirsty comments) make me cringe so hard. Sit yo asses down, you ain't even hot and you're acting like you're top shit.

I won't name any of those cosplayers... for now.

The community in my country is quite small so I never really thought something you usually see in relevant international cons would happen here. (And I mean the most retarded/dangerous stuff that you usually hear happens at cons in America etc)

Well, this year there has been a major fatso dude dressed in what I can only deduce is some sort of cosplay from a basketball anime, and he walks around the cons with a small blackboard where you can read "I <3 Hentai" in his hand. He wants and needs to show it to everyone, like it's supposed to make us proud or something. Seriously. Wtf.

Also, really pisses me off that, for some reason, there are always morons who think it's okay to do stuff at cons you would get arrested for if you did it somewhere else.

If you're looking for quality of costume, it'll be like 5% good costumes. Mostly shitty handmade/stuff from ebay.

If you're looking for quality of companionship, at least 50% of the members are nice people to hang out with, even if their cosplays aren't great. There's 16 year olds that run around during picnics screaming cringey things, yes, but also some older people (ranging from 19-30) who know how to behave in public.

Additionally, not everyone in the comm cosplays. Some people come along just to hang out. There's monthly meetings, people play board games and draw and just talk, and every month there's bonus things going. For example, earlier in the year someone who is fluent in Japanese did a presentation on the wacky language used in anime. Another month there were video games. And a cosplay workshop. etc.

You can always look at it as an opportunity to teach other people, if you're into that. Most noobie members were very receptive to the proper ways of doing stuff.

But yeah. You'll see a lot of crappy cosplay (just like you do at cons!).

A decent beginners' sewing machine, brand-new, is $140 or so on Amazon. She can even get one cheaper on eBay.

If she decides to burn her friendship with you the way she did other folks, it sounds like she'd be doing you a favor. Plus, it would incentivize her to actually learn sewing.

To be perfectly honest she is basically my little sister, and I had just gotten off of the phone with her where she had been complaining so I was hot and bothered when I wrote that. And I think she can pull off the characters better than I can, so there's a bit of jealousy at play as well. But neither of us are going to be cosplaying any of those things any time soon because I don't have time and she doesn't have money.
Thankfully she's currently learning to sew and recently got a sewing machine for her birthday.
Oh and the things that I've sewn for her are not related to the cosplays that I want to do. It was something I was more than happy to do for her, I just get a little confused every time she complains about bought/commissioned cosplays because I did 90% of the work while she "helped"

Starting to feel bad here. I can recognise right away that I'm none of the people that are being complained about in this thread, but still.
I buy most of my costumes, and sew on details if needed. If there's armor that needs making, I'll make the full cosplay, but that's about it.
I tend to 'announce' my cosplay plans with bad timing. Lately it's been one single friend, one who also buys their stuff, who has a lot of the same tastes as me, saying she'll cosplay x or y, and a couple of days after I jump in and say I'm doing x or y, but in different and sometimes crazier outfits.
I'm really not doing it on purpose and I hope every time that she isn't getting pissy about it. When she puts up her plans she mostly just makes me remember that I had this stuff planned once, but dropped it due to money issues, something I don't have as much anymore.

I'd post cruel anonymous crap but I don't really have a problem with any cosplayers.

I hate it when a new character is revealed or suddenly becomes popular and within hours everyone announces cosplay plans for them on Facebook, then never speak of them again after a week. Right after Palutena was announced as playable in Smash, I swear at least 10 people I know made plans for her that they haven't acknowledged since. What's the point?

People are annoying about cosplay on Facebook in general. Acting like they own the character because they uploaded a picture to their cosplay plans album first, announcing 20 costumes a day and never making any of them, etc.
