Aight so Walt Disney World has something called the Princess Half Marathon which is, exactly what it sounds like, a 13.1 mile race on Disney property geared towards women.

I've done it twice, in 2012 and in 2014. In 2012 I started in the third corral because I had a qualifying time from another race. This year I started in the back with all the scrubs because I was running with unqualified people.

Imagine this - literally 20k+ people in front of you. 80% of these people have never completed a half marathon, 70% of them haven't run more than a 10k, 60% don't know the difference between a 5k and a marathon.

They are all in front of you.

They all are following the Jeff Galloway "training" method meaning that they shuffle and huff for about a minute, then they come to a dead stop and walk at roughly 1 mile per day for another minute, repeat forever.

They are all wearing the shirts they bought at the race expo the day before that say stuff like OP's hambeast's, or "If you can read this drag me to the finish". They've got bandoliers of water and GU to get them through the tortuous 13 miles ahead. They drop their wrappers everywhere. They fan out linking arms and giggling at the skinny bitches slogging through the thick Florida grass trying to maintain their "ridiculous" sub-3 goals. It's about having fun! It's about the experience! They warble as they get picked up by the DNF buss at the back for people who can't make it.

Meanwhile you're still shuffling. You're approaching the "blockbuster" of the race - running through Cinderella's castle. You're ready for that awesome running shot by the race photographers waiting on the other side. Instead you hit a solid wall of flesh and spandex. Hundreds of phones are raised as people come to a complete stop to take a mid-race selfie. Instead of blasting through with your arms raised in triumph, you're carried away on a sea of people. You see none of the on-course entertainment because either the line to see Minnie is longer than the time left in the race, or because they've already packed up.

You finally slog through the finish line but you're hot, sunburned, miserable thanks to your forced march in the Florida heat. As you stagger down the corral towards your post-race banana, you see dozens of medical personnel eyeing you and those around you. 200+lb women are flopping to the ground, collapsing left and right as they are swarmed upon by the medics. It might not be pretty, but they finished. They can call themselves "half-marathoners" after maintaining the grueling 16-minutes per mile pace required. And you're one of them.

Aren't you proud.

Addendum:

I have friends who worked at the event near the starting line. They told me that they saw landwhales just like OP's picture lining up in the front corrals as well, who started walking as soon as the starting gun went off. I can only assume they lied about their quals or somehow snuck past the security checks. A lot of people pick this race as their first half and it's gone entirely to shit and it's only getting worse.

If you have enough money you can get a favorable start position. I got a runners world challenge ticket for the full marathon a couple years ago and was in corral b. I'm not land whale, but I ended up walking the whole way due to my fucked up IT band. There was no way I wasn't going to try after spending like $400 for the ticket. It took me 8 hours, but I did finish.
