I cannot fathom how any of that is remotely possible. I am glad to see they are offering refunds to people who used paypal, but if you took cash "donations" with the intention of paying it back at a later date...they needed to issue receipts and retain copies of those receipts.

Granted, they weren't prepared at ALL for the $17,000 fundraiser but they shouldn't have accepted cash "donations" or at least told people that by giving them cash you are making an actual donation and shouldn't expect that money to be paid back.

They rented the bouncy house but like HELL they got that ballpit. They thrifted that shit. Also, they'd be force to pay for damages to is since apparently it deflated.

I don't really know any businesses that rent inflatables nor have I rented any. But every time I've been at an event with one, there seems to be a person from the rental company whos job is to keep an eye on it, reinflate it, keep kids from destroying it (mostly because the parents wander off). I just read the official statement that dashcon released on their website. Suuuuuuuuchhhhh bullshitttttttt. Even if a lot of rumors ended up not panning out to be completely truthful (i.e WTNV walking out, comping other guests etc.) the amount of disorganization and miscommunication this has shown is absolutely appalling.

I cannot fuckin believe that they're going to try for next year. I mean, props that they're trying to be "transparent" with what happened this year but all they've shown us is they can't manage their way out of a wet paper bag. It doesn't matter if they "let go" of the people who were responsible for miscommunication-- you're not supposed to have those kind of problems when you're running a goddamn convention.

A level of incompetence that the father, the son, and the holy spirit could not forgive.

Dashcon's official statement is atrocious. So many contradictions and lies. Like the part where they edited their TOS after the fact to exclude refunds for WTNV fans, and a clause about editing their TOS on a whim in the first place. I feel like their explanation of their money troubles doesn't even begin to cover what actually happened. And as for the refunds, I can't picture it actually happening. I hope somebody sues them.

Late to the party but I do beleive it is possible. It happened to a brony Con named Unicon, on the third day money run short for the same mismanagement bullshit (not enough fund for way to many guests) where the organisers couldn't pay for the hotel and simply ran away, and the con ended up finishing early because the hotel kicked them out (they did the same "rush for donation thing" but instead it was to pay the Guests who came because the organiser bankrupted), still a sortof scamming I guess.

It's possible if each person got their own room. Don't know what the rates were that weekend...but I couldn't find any major events going on that weekend that would have a hotel jack up their prices.

So I picked a Thursday through Monday date to get a rough idea of what the cost would be at the hotel where the convention was. I also went ahead and picked two rooms instead of three.

Of course. That isn't the hotel WTNV stayed at. They stayed at a hotel IN Chicago so their rates were probably higher. So I picked three hotels of different prices that were also owned by Marriott.

Granted, WTNV could have stayed at a different hotel chain, another day than I am assuming, one more expensive, or booked three rooms instead of two. Who knows.

But it isn't hard to rack up a $2,000 hotel bill.

If you started up a new con in Monterey California...prices are going to be outrageous there too for a first year con. First year con has nothing to do with it. We shouldn't be surprised that a Chicago hotel is pricey.

If you want to make an argument in defense of DashCon and against WTNV you should be saying, "DashCon got screwed a bit when WTNV decided to stay in Chicago. They should have gotten a hotel in Schaumburg where it would be cheaper."

If anyone apart of DashCon was smart and actually had experience in a business setting where companies pay for travel expenses, DashCon should have tried negotiating in the beginning with WTNV.

"We are wanting our guests to stay at the hotel the convention is at as we have a relationship with that hotel. However, if you wish to stay at a hotel of your choosing, we are willing to comp the price up to what it would have cost you had you stayed at Renaissance." They could have asked how many rooms WTNV would be be needing and returned with the total price of what it would have been at the Renaissance.

A pretty reasonable request.

But of course it is so painfully obvious that no one at DashCon has an understanding how how businesses work, event planning, and negotiating. That or they don't have the business mindset and rather try to be everyone's friend which means saying yes to everything.
