So I've seen a few lolitas move on to Mana's brand, and specifically go to EGA years ago and haven't heard much about that since. I was wondering what /cgl/ thinks of Aristocrat and if it's possible for Aristocrat to eventually diversify into multiple sub-types like lolita did. Or if there are more examples out there of it than the eight pictures I keep finding.

I think Aristocrat looks pretty cool, personally, but where I live the dark colors would kill me in the heat haha.

Mana is/was a musician for Malice Mizer and later Moi dix Mois who sort of sprung lolita out into the open. Or that's how I see it anyway, others would probably argue different.Mana also created EGA/EGM. He also is like late 40s/early 50s and looks like a younger Yoko Ohno without make up so it's probably best that he's constantly in that stoic mask of make up.

I'm not a goth. I don't want to look like a fucking vampire. I don't like black. And yet, suddenly I'm supposed to change my preferences, my entire wardrobe, and dress like this because I'm older? No thanks.

Predated, yeah, but Mana made it popular. The goth lolita branch anyway. People took it and made their own spinoffs since then. It's been about 20 years since the visual kei scene spewed out "lolita-as-a-pop-culture-fashion" now, and it's been well documented how it made it's way to western culture over that time.

Also, American goths =/= all western goths.

>>7690414
Getting stuff like that on a budget is tricky, especially since they don't tend to have shirring and the style only looks really good if your clothes actually fit well. Too large/small outfit is pretty much the opposite of a fancy aristocrate.

>>7690906
That's what (actually functioning) corsets are for.

>> No.7692060

>>7691768
Some people also consider too old dressing in lolita (especially sweet) in your early or middle 20s *facepalm*. Or some people suggest to dress classic when you get older, i hate also this when said! Well my non lolita style is mostly goth but more on the punkish/cute side than elegant so i won't change dressing in sweet lolita with aristocrat when i'm older because is a style not fitting for me and i love the fact i'm not wearing gothic lolita despite being a goth. Some people will say i'm a big poser not dressing in gothic but i don't care.
So even if you are in your 60s and still wanting to dress lolita, do it in whatever style you like.

>> No.7692105

>>7692066
Acually, a good corset usually costs way more than 80$ and unless you have a very "standard" body shape it's usually best to get one that's actually tailored to you.
That said, you're probably right about the rest, corsets are tricky and if you don't know what you're doing it tends to look worse than without.

Still, curvey goth ladies who DO know what they are doing look great in them.

>> No.7692120

There are lots of pretty awfully dressed goths as well, but that's true about literally every fashion.

My friend does Ren-faire stuff, and the corsets from that age are not forgiving on human bodies let me tell you that. It's 'period accurate' and she usually needs help getting in and out.

I think you could get away with a corselet or maybe a girdle in EGA. I know girdles are still sold by speciality stores and are slightly cheaper than corsets.

Not every sweet lolita coordinate is an explosion of pastel vomit, well i like also that but i wear it toned down usually.
