Pretty sure there was a cosplay thread floating around somewhere, but personally I love it.
Their designs can be a little tacky sometimes, but still very cute, and always can translate pretty well into real life (considering a mini version of the outfit has already been made)
Plus nothing is more fulfilling than making a little girl's day when she's sees her favourite character in real life.
And ngl, shows/series like this are my guilty pleasure.

Does anyone ever cosplay as Barbie?
Inb4 that Russian chick with the creepy shoop.

I've seen a few of the Toy Story one, but I always thought it would be cute to cosplay as the original Barbie in the black and white swimsuit or another of her iconic outfits.

>> No.7649897

I just wish that the outfits were true to the source. Like in OP's pic, Draculaura's skirt obviously has quite a bit of poof to it and in real life it just looks flat and depressing. Girl needs a petticoat. Whats more, Draculaura's lace neck thing is small and it sits the way it does to give her silhouette a more rounded shoulder look to it, its not a full on caplet like the cosplayer used.

Plus the belt is wrong. Like holy shit, how hard is it to get a belt with a bow on it??

I know I'm going to be accused of nitpicking but I just really would prefer accuracy for outfits as cute as these, I kind of want to put together an entire wardrobe of this shit. Monster High 4 lyfe.

I find both series equally insulting, misleading, and harmful. I thought their message of individuality empowerment was cute in the beginning until every fucking lead female characters stared looking like anorexic high fashion models with pounds of makeup, huge hair, and painful platform wedges on ALWAYS. It completely contradics their anti-hate messages which end up sounding ridiculous because they couldn't give a shit about actually being good role models for children. Just the latest trends and bs Bratz have been repeating for decades. So yes in the fashion sense it's cool, but their attempt at teaching kids any good moral lessons, it's an utter mess and pathetic. Their lack of care really made me rage so no I don't cosplay from them. And I wish it'd stop being glorified when the plot and messages are shit. Anyone who does is selfish and cruel imo. Using "I cosplay this for the children" is a piss poor excuse and you know it fucking attention whores. Don't you dare try to use them to make yourself look better in the cosplay community. Not when you can't think about anyone else but yourself and what brando you buy from.

MH dolls don't look malnourished at all. They have unrealistic proportions that's it. Their heads is too big. Their calves too long compared to their thigs, and they have extremelly pronounced lordosis and an underdevelopped rib cage. That's what makes them cute and interesting to look at.

Somewhat shooting myself in the foot by self posting (as I'm the one in the pink) but my friend and I did Barbie Princess and the Pauper a couple of years ago and I really like this picture.

We had lots of little girls running up to us at events and wanting pictures and talking to us like we were the characters. It's so sweet.

I love both MH and Ever After High. I mainly watch it because of the cute characters and interesting designs. I do wish for MH to go back to the more witty/teen story lines though. They are kinda stuck in the ''Don't bully!'' ''Love yourself!'' message, while I enjoyed the more complex stories of Frankie loving both Jackyll/Hyde only to discover that they were the same. Still I think cosplaying from it is nice, because even though the outfits are a bit wacky, they still translate pretty well.

Alright let me tell you about MH. I've been following the series since around 2011 and it honestly does not sound like you've ever watched it or anything. Monster Highs motto is "Be Unique, Be Yourself, Be a Monster" which they enforce all the time, especially in their movies. It's a great message for kids and that's not the only one they have. It's about accepting your "freaky flaws" and loving yourself. Each monster has a flaw. While the earlier ones might seem superficial they've gone beyond and above since that. Jane Boolittle is a monster with a social anxiety and they've gone quite into it in the series.
>I've watched every episode, and every girl is a horribly thin, bland, covergirl tryhard, airhead obsessed with shoes and their appearance
This is untrue. While some of the ghouls like to look good that's not it for all of them. Their newest doll Gilda Goldstag has no makeup on at all. In one of their special webisodes about bullying, the girl had a larger frame because she does so in real life. Most girls don't focus on their appearance much at all but other bigger things. Usually working together to overcome whatever the obstacle is. And yeah some of them do put effort into their appearance so what? Lots of girls like to, who are you to tell them that they are wrong?
>Because apparently all monsters are now privileged royalty spoiled brats living out of their parents pockets? amiright?
The only ones who spend lots of money are Cleo and Draculaura. None of the other ghouls do that.
>But it's a sick mentality to try to be a doll yourself.
Who is promoting to look like a doll? No one. Kids don't think 'oh I have to look so thin like my dolls!' No, they don't. You know what does make them think that? The media of real life people, telling girls they have to be thin. MH is about accepting yourself, not looking like a doll.

Because it sounds like you are shitting on Hey Arnold. Also lots of other kids shows exactly like that, like rugrats, recess, erm, others...

Anyway, there are studies showing that girls can be negatively influenced by their dolls shapes, but that is in conjunction with a whole slew of other bullshit societal pressures so I am not on board with that line of thinking. The dolls are cute, the shows are boring as hell and cringe worthy imo, but little kids love that kind of thing and they tend to at least try and have a good message. I am just excited that there is a line of girls toys that are about monsters and weird shit finally. When I was a kid I had to shop exclusively in boys toys because the girl isle was so shitty and boring and nothing but pink on pink on pink. It was awful. The Barbies I did own (and I owned a ton thanks to unimaginative relatives) I would cut their hair and make gothy/grunge outfits for them, I would have loved to have this kind of doll when I was a kid. It would have been nice to know at the time that I could be weird and dark and smart still dress cute. I spent a lot of years in nothing but black t-shirts and torn pants because I didn't think pretty goth stuff existed. Then one day I found out about EGL and that all changed.

In more related news, I am going to buy the fuck out of this doll and give her a new face paint.
