Ero Lolita, Punk lolita, Wa Lolita

We've all heard that these things don't officially exist. Dare you try to change that? Will you fail and fall into an eternal pit of ita? Can it ever be done?

Easy mode
> Discussion on Ero, Punk, Wa and other related 'non-styles'
> Image dump, old and ita images allowed
> Related links and/or original content

Hard mode
> Non-ita co-ord collages
> Non-ita real life co-ords

You can obscure your face. Let's all play nicely and offer constructive criticism, the goal isn't to tell anon that her ita ero co-ord isn't lolita, the goal is to work together to make an acceptable one.
If you absolutely never want to see any of these sub-styles in lolita and don't want to play, please just hide the thread.

>>7633941
There is just way too much going on here. The bandana on top of slouchy socks on top of the patterned tights all on top of calf-high boots is already crazy. The bracelets are more kandi-raver-kid and i cant even tell what number of things are on her head.

The color coordination is nice but i think if you got rid of the leg warmers and bandana and like 90% of those bracelets it would have been really cute

It's my understanding that ero is more connected with the Japanese goth alt club scene and visual kei type stuff, and whether or not it still fits with what lolita, particularly gothic lolita has become, is probably always going to be up for debate. Elements of lolita meets 'sexiness' and expressions of sexuality certainly exists though, in the form of worn fashion as well as illustration and other media. I seem to remember that long-standing lolita fashion enthusiast theosakakoneko mentioned that there were often bdsm type acts at the Japanese alt-type club lolita fashion events she attended. It seems these darker aspects to the fashion exist largely in the overlap with the so called edgier side of goth and alternative culture.

The Artist Mitsukasu Mihara, who is often considered to have had at least some role in the development of the lolita look, often touched on bdsm themes and sexuality. This doesn't represent the 'true face of lolita' or anything like that, just perhaps one facet of a complex, greater whole.

>>7640459
What would you consider to be inaccuracies in the statement? Curious because I don't wish to claim authority, just perhaps offer a different perspective. I'm not really connected to the current lolita scene, and my understanding of these perhaps more controversial aspects, is largely due to my oldfagishness. For what it's worth, I was following this stuff from around 2001 onwards and attended my first meet in, I think it was 2003.

The frequent outright dismissal of all things that touched on 'sexiness' and/or exploration of sexuality (particularly within the egl community), seems to have at least in part, gone some way to obfuscate some of the perhaps less pure and innocent origins and developments that have existed within lolita fashion history.

Obviously dressing in say, a more 'ero' manner doesn't automatically connect you to that darker, alt-type world, more, these elements have existed within that world.

I understand why people may not wish to be associated with any of that stuff, particularly when you consider that many aspects of lolita fashion came from an entirely different outlook/ideology (not to mention the adult nature of some of these darker themes just aren't appropriate for minors).

Some more Mitsukazu Mihara, just cuz.

I think it's that the goth/alt scene bdsm shit is just that, an element of the gothic side of lolita, and has no connection to the roots of modern classic and sweet lolitas. It's still acceptable and visible within gothic coords even today, but that scene has much less or no connection to development in other substyles.

Nope.
See how it's supposed to look like three things in one: a bolero, a skirt, and a shirt? You want to buy actual separates instead, so you can make multiple outfits by switching them around.

I wouldn't trust Crunchy Roll for lolita items, Anon. If you're in to the old school look, a lot of items with that aesthetic show up second-hand on Lace Market and other sales comms. Bodyline has also stepped up their game in recent years, if you're looking for inexpensive starter pieces. It's a good idea to ask around the community about specific items, however - BL's quality can vary wildly from pretty nice to total crap.

This is just gorgeous. I freaking love your creativity and sense of style CA, don't ever stop. I'd much rather see the occasional arguably off the mark collage, than nothing but a sea of go-to obvious stuff or brand set items.

Ok, obscured face because no make-up but here is my morning try on punk lolita.
This is definitly a more subbdued look, for I'm lacking of punk items. Maybe an big VW orb ring could complete the look nicely. Well, I tried my best.

>> No.7645839

>>7645833
Yeah it needs a lot more punk accessories. It's a really pretty coord but it's very solidly goth.
I think an orb would add to it but wouldn't drive the point home. Something like a spiked crown and/or one of those union jack bags would bring it a lot closer. More ripped/punk like tights or socks would be good too.

>> No.7645850

>>7645839
I think an union jack would be totally cliché, honestly. The problem I have with punk lolita is that it often looks costumey.
My hair accessory on the second picture already contain metal (it's a belt like chouchou), my bag as chains on it and the dress have metal details, so I think maybe some sheer ripped otks/thights yes, possibly with a metallic colour/motif on the ankle area and some buttons for my ridder jacket would be good.

>> No.7645854

>>7645850
Haha I really love those union jack bags and motifs but I can see how people think they are cliche.
My biggest problem is there's just too much black. Punks generally wear other colors as well, especially denim, red and white. The buttons are a good idea because they usually have writing/symbols on them somewhere.

>> No.7645859

>>7645854
I love them too but I saw so much of them in my 'punk' teenage years that I can't stand them as a fashion accessory anymore.
I hear you on that, it's also what I thought when doing it too. The dress has thin blue stripes but I have nothing modern and blue to wear in my wardrobe. If I had one I would wear a red short leather jacket instead of a black one and maybe some green accessories (jewerly ? that green and silver orb necklace I saw the other day) tied together by buttons on the skirt part.
This current outfit is really inspired by >>7644508 in a sort of cleaner, everyday style tho, I wanted it to be more lolita than punk. I love how she manages to keep it both punk and cute while using minimum colours. I think it works because of the layering.

>> No.7645865

>>7645859
I think the layering is really important and it's one part of punk I haven't fully realized/utilized/understood. But my eye also catches those extreme accessories too, the purse, headdress and ripped tights. But yeah, like I said it's a really nice outfit anyway. Punk lolita is always something I flirt with but I don't think I would wear it to a proper meet or post my coord online or anything.

I discovered lolita fashion when I was living in Japan in 2001-2002. My first encounter with the fashion was when I was walking through my local city centre and saw a group of girls dressed as 'Victiorian gothic dolls' - I had no idea what I had seen at that time, but this is how I described it to my friends and family back home. It kinda blew my mind, I just stood there in awe with my mouth hanging open like a demented goldfish.

A few months after this chance sighting I discovered the Gothic & Lolita bible in a magazine store and managed to put two and two together. When I attempted to discuss the fashion with anyone, particularly my classmates they just said things like 'oh, you should ignore them, they're just weirdos'. I met a girl on my regular train journey to school once that was interested in visual-kei and had a passing interest in lolita fashion but this was pretty exceptional, for the most part it was considered a deviant fashion/movement and the majority didn't want anything to do with it. Since I was an exchange student representing my country i had o be careful, and so I didn't ever really speak about or attempt to learn about the fashion again until i returned home. Back in the UK I found this forum: http://blueperiod.suddenlaunch.com/ (can't believe it's still kinda going) and later the egl community on livejournal.

There was very little English language info around at this point, virtually nowhere shipped overseas and shopping services were hellishly expensive as there wasn't much competition or demand. The vast majority of people were either trying to construct lolita-like ensembles using items from stores in their homeland, or bought stuff from cosmates (the quality was generally terrible and bodyline didn't ship overseas at that point). Metamorphose started shipping overseas in later 2002(?) and everyone rejoiced. The next major brands to ship overseas (to my knowledge) were btssb and Moi Meme Moitie through CD Japan.

When I started out the UK scene was tiny and the vast majority that had discovered lolita fashion were either goths or admirers of goth fashion. Many people also struggled to get their head around just how expensive participating in the fashion could be. One of the only decent English language articles on the fashion back in the day was this published in 2002: http://www.morbidoutlook.com/fashion/articles/2002_07_gothiclolita.html

Found these recently (I know, I know), probably the closest to a thorough and unbiased overview of the fashion and its origins I've ever found:

There isn't anywhere outside of a handful of really big cons. Speaking as an American who has lived in Europe, many of the really big cons in America are as difficult to get to if you live in another part of the country as really big cons in, say, France would be to get to from Italy.
