I suddenly see this pop up in my local comm's facebook and the admin asked who is running the event with other legit questions. The people running the event don't even identify themselves and just say "We're 5 people that are into J-Fashion." I scroll down and realize that the idiot that ran Crystal Candyland is a part of this. Everyone who had a brain noped their way out of that event.

Do you guys have any similar stories? Did someone host a "convention" at the local middle school? Is some team of teenagers trying to host a huge cosplay party in their backyard?

>> No.7619022

I don't understand what they're even trying to do. Who wants to stand around in Times Square doing nothing for two hours?

why?
fashion walks are a thing, but still, that's a lot of waiting around doing shit all.

Any banned lolitas from the NYC comm going to this event? I know Vanessa maybe.

Also why would they do this going towards Times Square? There will be a clusterfuck of tourists and if I was from The City, I wouldn't go to Times Square. Aren't there other places to go instead like walking from Madison Square Park to Union Square or starting at Bryant Park down to Union Square?

Mia Carla is running it. She's banned from the NYC comm for trying to force her "LoliCon" idea down everyone's throat and causing a shitstorm over it.

The actual Harajuku fashion walks in japan look pretty fun, if there was one in my city I'd go.

If everyone turns up crappily dressed, your feet get sore or it's awkward, you can just leave! Go with a friend so you can ditch together and just have fun in the city yourselves?

I feel like the people who are throwing this convention together saw Frill and wanted to make their own version. They are copying a lot of the things Frill had. Too bad they didn’t have enough foresight to see that Frill failed and they are most likely going to crash and burn as well. Be prepared to get smeared on /cgl/ and BTB! My only frustration is that I have to wait until December of next year to wait for the delicious drama to erupt.

It seems like they might have their shit together more so than frill. They have already made the amount they needed and planning well in advanced for anything that may go awry. I want yo go just out of sheer curiosity.

My understanding is that Frill failed not because of a lack of interest, but because the group responsible for it flubbed the finances. So far, it seems like this group is trying to avoid the same mistakes.

I'm also going to go, since I live close enough for it to not be too much a risk.

>> No.7626764

>>7626754
That's what happened. The directors had some really bad issues.
I was at Frill and really enjoyed it... it was only later that I found out about the massive issues.

Everything came to a head when all that drama happened in ATL comm awhile back. Some of us in ATL wanted to resurrect Frill, but I don't think that will happen. Thankfully ATL comm has calmed down. (Sauce: member of ATL)

>Too bad they didn’t have enough foresight to see that Frill failed and they are most likely going to crash and burn as well.

Frill failed because the directors were drama magnets who were not mature enough to be handling a responsibility that involves thousands of dollars and designer's clothing.

If Frill had been run by people who weren't drama mongers, it would probably still be around.

All my cringe: to this con. The most terribly organized con I've even been to, or even heard of. Imagine a warehouse with poor ventilation, full of neckbeards, in Florida during August. At the door I handed a twenty and they took it and gave no change claiming admission had gone up. There were no events or panels, besides a shitty costume contest judged by 'audience cheer volume'.

W/e, I'll be running a table there but it's ridiculous either way.

Does anyone have anything on Floatacon? I just vaguely remember it from my CosplayFu days that someone wanted to have a convention on a cruiseship and it looked seedy as fuck and cost a ton and someone drew a super kawaii ship holding a yaoi paddle. Generally speaking, a company only has say in not allowing that if the person in question is an employee (most retail companies have this policy). Baylee doesn't seem to be an employee there, so it's a moot point.

That being said, if the store manager sees her buying all those wigs, they don't technically -have- to sell them to her, if he or she thinks something is suspicious, or if they know what's up. Of course, it's not like she'd technically be doing anything wrong... and the store would make out well, assuming she doesn't try to return them when she inevitably fails.

On that note, wigs are non-returnable at most places anyway, so top kek if she ever had the idea to buy a bunch at once without confirmed buyers.

I saw my friend post a "cosplay at [college] day!". I was invited and said "maybe" but it was basically a no. I could go, and be the only asshole who doesn't look like shit, but no. No. That'd be kinda douchey anyway. All the people attending were fat. One of them, although fat, at least knows how to cosplay. The rest of them have no idea what they're doing. Oh shit this reply is so late, I'm sorry. Basically she claims to be an old-school k-pop fan (I guess especially since she's quite old), but her attitude and general behavior around and about Korean people is no better than the entry-level Koreaboo. I can't remember the last time I saw her at a meetup, she only has a few sparse friends left in the comm. I cringed so hard when I saw the pics of her in that neon-ass, kiddy-looking hanbok at the Chuseok Festival 2 or 3 years ago. At now 38 years old, there's no excuse for the way she acts, talks, or types on Facebook. It's gross, she's gross.
