I read manga more than I watch anime, so I know I'd never get recognized. Still, I'd love to cosplay Alyosha. It was cancelled way too soon and I loved the character.

I'd love to cosplay someone from Le Chevalier D'Eon, the anime version, not the shitty manga version everyone loves for some reason, but no one knows this series very well and I'm scared to put so much money in to not find another fan of the series. None of those are really an issue, seeing as Adachi does have a lot of recognizable props that you could go with. What one of my friends did when he cosplayed Adachi was he hollowed out a small TV he got at goodwill and replaced the glass with a paper cut out of static, wrapped it up in caution tape and walked around with it under his under arm for the con.

With P4G getting an anime and Adachi being playable in P4A2 you'll be totally recognizable and you could always find a group to assimilate into if you don't have one made for yourself.

Decided to go for it anyway. I just stick with the attitude of no matter how small the fan base, if you cosplay from it, you're bringing new material into the fan base and potentially finding fellow fans of the series. Even if it's just one other person at an entire convention, you've made their day.

Maybe in my late 20s I'd be able to do it, but in the meantime it just makes me sad.

But on to his costume. Cape would be some kind of coarse fabric, armor would be some kind of foam, and then a glossy finish for that metal look with some wear and tear sanding/pitting on it. Haven't worked with leather before so that would be fun.

Sword would be a nice 5 foot pole with foamboard cased around it and on the hilt. Put some medical bandage on the wrist and on the hilt and voila. Gutsu is done

The rather effeminate Medicine Seller from Mononoke/Ayakashi (Bakemono story) has a dark-skinned form and carries a similar medicine box? It's not a bad series either, though I prefer Ayakashi's style and stories over Mononoke. If you're just wanting to cosplay a character with a medicine chest.

Just do it any way, it wont matter, especially if you're not with a group. I know that you'll feel like you're not doing the character justice but it's just height and unless you have some crazy proportions, it wont even matter in photos.

in my experience cosplaying homestuck, the teenyboppers mostly flocked to me when i was, bizarrely enough, jake, and with friends not cosplaying homestuck. clearly underaged dirks have hit on me way too many times so i mainly wear him with some of my group as a buffer. i get a decent amount of teenagers flocking as dirk too, but again, mostly if i'm the only one cosplaying homestuck.

i cosplay jade fairly often as well and always alone and the most interaction i had with someone was an equius telling me i was cute and meeting a dave in their 20s who was pretty cool and worth hanging out with.

honestly if you really, really want to avoid interacting with high schoolers, do jane.

Legend of Dragoon is one of my favourite video games ever, I've beaten it at least a couple times a year since I was 12 and still own that original copy. On the plus side, LoD has a bigger nostalgia fan base then some realize. So I think a lot of people would be happy to see it. I really need to pop the game in and play through. It's been years since I played.

I think Tsubaki was a really boring character design-wise in CS but I loved playing as her. Her Astral appearance was better but it was still bland.

And then CP made Zero Type Izayoi and her design is fucking beautiful but oh god all that Murakumo armor. But then again I'm also attempting Labrys who is arguably more mechanical but just in smaller parts, so I hope I learn from that and can do Izayoi justice one day. (pun intended)

Not really. I've cosplayed a few cosplays that have been recognized by only my friends or 1-2 fans. And cosplaying something that has very few fans in your country and meeting them while cosplaying a character from that series is amazing. Being recognised by a single fan all day is worth so much more to me than having everyone know where I'm from.

The truth is when you cosplay obscure series 9/10 times the people you meet are autists or fetishists, usually because the series aren't actually that good. If they were objectively good, more people would like and recognize it. It's fine to like something obscure, but most people who like obscure things are fucking weird and that's what you are likely to run into.

For all anons of this thread. I've been wanting to cosplay Schierke from Berserk for YEARS. No one has seen Berserk's anime where I live even less the manga. Even the ones who saw just the anime wouldn't recognize her since she's a character that appears very later on in the manga.

I still did it though! It was fun! worked really hard on it cause at least I wanted it to look cool and right. At the end, the day of the con, no one knew who the hell I was but I was still given props and photographed for looking "cute".

You guys should cosplay whatever you guys want, just work hard on it! Cosplay is for fun and not for getting recognized anyways. Good luck everyone!

How would you go about making that costume? Spandex would look cheesy, shaping small accent plates would require you to be a blacksmith or something. That costume would be amazing if done correctly, but I can't wrap my head around how to do it properly without an insane budget and skillset.

Dear lord no. Smithing anything like that would take forever and be insanely expensive if you commissioned it.

Since Ninjas armor is pretty low profile and not overly bulky I would do the pretty standard cardstock + fibreglass resin method of armor making as opposed to EVA foam as you will get a thinner and generally harder armor out if it.

I think it really depends, but you could probably do it for ~$500 or so if you were thrifty and bought the fibreglass and resin in bulk. Then theres more advanced stuff you could do, like having the mask open but thats pretty advanced.
