Is there an age limit for jfashion?

Are you still going to be wearing lolita when you're wringly and uncute?
How do you cope with the thought of growing old and undesirable and needing surgery to look decent in your coords?

Most women who wear sweet lolita already look too old to be wearing it in the first place, irregardless of age.

>> No.7606995

I don't wear lolita to be 'desirable'.

When I'm a bit older with kids and a career and all that jazz I'll tone it down to a more socially acceptable level, but when I'm actually OLD old I want to be one of those cool older ladies who gives no fucks.

I'm 27, probably too old to be wearing Lolita but if I was worried about what ~everyone else~ thought I'd never have got into it in the first place.

That said, I do look young for my age and I credit it to being mixed and starting an anti-aging regiment in my early 20s. Pure Hyaluronic acid serum is a Godsend.

Eat your vegetables! Drink a lot of water! Wear sunscreen! The rest of the world will still think you look like an idiot, but you'll be a beatiful idiot!

I'm 24 and I feel that even though I find Sweet Lolita adorable, age wise it doesn't suit me. I look like an overgrown child, but when in Classic I feel far more confident. I'll probably never stop, even as a old cat lady. No doubt I'll gradually just shift into Otome when muuuuch older. It'll still be just as lovely.

>> No.7607128

I personally think the age limit stops around 18 for jfashion.
It's acceptable when you're in high school but beyond that you're expected to grow up.
When you hit your 20s, people start to notice your age and you better start acting like an adult.

I don't think so. Most of the people I idolize in the jfashion scene are older, late 20s, early 30s. Octavekitten, Redtonic, Tamulove, even Misako and RinRin Doll and Maki are in the older age range. I think the really good lolitas are all older, they have the finances and the experience to coordinate well. I think ott sweet lolita is the only style that really fits the younger generation, but there really is no age limit on classic, gothic, old school, etc etc.

It's what stops me from actually taking the plunge into lolita.

I've been window shopping for lolita dresses online since I was about 17. Couldn't afford it as a teenager though and now that I can I'm 24 and starting to worry about my age. I haven't really physically aged much since I was 19 and still look pretty young but that number just keeps staring me in the face like,

>haha you're getting old now.

I worry that even if I still look young I'm a little late to the game and I'm not gonna have that many more years of being able to pull it off.

I do know I'm ridiculous and there are tons of women older than me wearing it but still.

I feel the same way. Too bad I still have a love/hate relationship with sweet. I love the style, but I can't really pull off pastels, with or without childish printed designs, and so I hunt down for more old-school things in jewel tones instead. Thing is, I'd rather save those sweet lolita pieces for big meets because otherwise, I feel a little out of place when I'm wearing too many ruffles and frills on a casual outing. I'm definitely more comfortable with classic and I can see myself wearing it and then transitioning to otome as I get older.

I'm almost 27, but I routinely pass for early 20s, even in business clothing, so I've got no qualms about wearing Lolita through my 30s. I don't really feel like there's an age limit for Lolita, as long as you can still really rock the look. I'll never get plastic surgery or any bullshit like that; if I start legit looking too old for Lolita, I'll stop wearing it publicly, and switch to goth or EGA instead. Same. When I first started getting into lolita at 16 all the styles I liked were too 'mature' for my babyface and several comm members tried to get me into sweet. It's just not my thing. So in my teens I may have looked a bit ridiculous but now that I'm in my early twenties I'm finally starting to grow into my style. I still like the kind of old school sweet that borders on natural kei, though. The sort of thing that passes for frumpy lacy sundresses. That kind of feminine frumpiness is timeless enough that I'll still feel comfortable wearing it when I'm older.

When I get much older I want to be Geraldine Mcewan's Jane Marple so all these frilly blouses and cardigans will still come in handy. Assuming they'll still fit/haven't fallen apart, of course. All I'll really need to look for is cute hats and cute comfy shoes and poof, instant granny chic.

I feel like a lot of people look awkward as teens, it's just a growing up thing. ESPECIALLY when it comes to fashion. They just don't have the same sense of style as an adult.

So you would probably have the same problems with sweet (you'd just feel MORE awkward)

Honestly, I think it really depends on how you do sweet. More mature prints, darker colorways, things like that are far more appropriate and stylish on a more mature person than AP's pastel sweet toy/candy prints.

I'm going towards 24 and i look better in sweet and fairy kei, i want also to wear classic-sweet, creepy cute and otome, but i'm not a fan of too mature prints or gothic ones i rather prefer pastel toys, flowers or fruits than a historical print or buildings in my lolita.
I can imagine myself as an old lady dressing in whatever lolita style i want, maybe classic or sweet in black/red and not caring having a wrinkled face for wearing the style! Also i think it's good when you get older, because it tends to cover some parts with age look not as you were young while looking elegant and cute at the same time.
Some people saw (in a big italian city) an old lady dressing in gothic lolita, i'd like to see more old ladies dressing lolita!

I saw some over 30 sweet lolita looking so good even with candy or toys prints. It depends how you style the dresses it doesn't matter if OTT or not, but how items are put in a coord. I just hate how people should dictate what lolita or other styles you have to wear depending of age. For me, it depends only about the person regardless the age, what colors are suited for her and the coordination.

Because loli most kawaii, as well as opinions like >>7607128. Genuinely looking 14 isn't desirable in normal life (I'd start to worry about my boyfriend, for one) but in lolita and other cutesy Japanese fashions it helps to look like a high schooler. It's cuter and kids get away with weird shit more than adults who "should know better". Also chances are if you look younger than you really are you're going to age better.

I'm 23 but I like being mistaken for a 18-year-old because it means I don't look like a child but still look 'fresh' and youthful. When I'm 30 I want to look 25, and so on.

Let's be honest like 95% of lolitas, jp or otherwise, are already uncute..... The really cute girls can probably pull it off until middle age but no way is an elderly person gonna look good in most loli genres. Maybe a goth or classic look with full length skirts and none of those platform shoes could work.

>I'm 23 but I like being mistaken for a 18-year-old because it means I don't look like a child but still look 'fresh' and youthful. When I'm 30 I want to look 25, and so on.
Same. But at some point you just hit a wall. For some it's late 20s, for some it's early 40s. Think about cary mulligan. Babyface. Is young and looks young in a way but doesn't really look "fresh" whereas alexis bledel is in her 30s and still looks better. If you look young but have some "definition" to your face then you age well but babyfaces will just sag/wrinkle more easily in the long run.

I don't think there really is an age limit, it's just clothing and there shouldn't be an age limit on clothing.

If someone wants to wear AP's pastel cutesy prints in their 30's and 40's, so be it. The general public thinks we look like freaks no matter how old we are.

I know a middle aged couple who like just dressing in Victorian goth style and even they get told they are too old. A lot of people believe any alternative fashion is only for young people.

You only live once, do what you want. Once you are dead, you won't have the chance to do the things you enjoy ever again. If you are 50 and want to wear OTT sweet, do it. Other lolitas will get anal about it but it's your life, it's not your job to make other people happy.

I think older people can be cute, you can still look good when you are older if you take care of yourself. I volunteer with this old lady who is in her 70's. She is so tiny and cute and very active, you wouldn't think she is in her 70's. I think she would look adorable in Lolita.

LA comm girls are generally over 24 and they rock all the styles well. I think in lolita it's necessary to be a bit older in order to possess a decent wardrobe, unless you land work very early at a well-paying job, or you have a sugardaddy/momma, or you're just wealthy to begin with.

This lady is a mom x2 and pretty sure she's mid-30's, if not older. She looks beautiful in classic.

I wanna be the same and not going for some mature, too long skirt aristocrat style or mori because i'm too old for sweet lolita. It's so cute to see more alternative people aging with their favourite fashion, it makes me feels at ease and thinking there isn't an age to dress a certain fashion.

Infact i dress Lolita from myself and to not conform gender expectations of how a girl should dress to be desiderable for men. When i get older, dressing Lolita would be better because the more you get older the more you don't care about others. I just desire to be that old crazy dressed woman in cute prints and heart shaped bags.

Well i think it's a bit sad not getting care about themselves when they get older, because i think even if you are very old, dressing as you like make you feel better and more confident. But if the woman in question never cared about fashion, it's another story.

I always loved them! This a good example of how age shoudn't stop you of wearing what you want.

Same thing except i never work out (too lazy) but i compensate with walking for lots of hours for some days of the week. I always get mistaken for an highschooler even i'm in my middle 20s almost, but it's a good thing. In my family there is slow aging so i'm lucky.

Aww, i think also I when i see some old ladies if they can wear lolita or not. Some have the perfect face to wear it!

Yup, and she wore sweet all the way up until her second kid, and was absolutely pulling it off. She also has been an excellent example of how to do Lolita well while pregnant.

I think the majority of prominent and well-dressed SoCal ladies are in their mid-twenties, it's wrote common down here, probably because it's easier to afford a great wardrobe when you have a stable income.

Either I'm in an incredibly relaxed job or it's the culture but I could totally wear that to work. Only stuff not allowed is too skanky / too alternative when there's clients.
