What really impresses me about a cosplay and a good photo is not only the costume quality but the sensation that something is going on in the photo (ie like photojournalism). Far too often in the community we are under the nation that a good cosplay photo means pretty people in pretty outfits statically posing in front of pretty backgrounds.

Anyone else feel this way and can we get a thread where we share photos that have more going on in them.

Maybe. I think it might have more to do with just not planning ahead or not thinking about what might be more interesting on the cosplayers' end. I haven't done tons of shoots but I don't think the photog should be responsible for pose ideas. Ideally it's a collaborative effort between the cosplayers and the photographers, but as a cosplayer, I think if I love a character/series enough that I'm gonna make an outfit and play dressup, I should have some ideas for photos and poses. If I'm not creative about my poses, that's on me not the photog because he/she might not be familiar with the source material. Not to say there's anything wrong with simple poses, but I think it's good to have both. Just my two cents.

I think its because of the nature of cosplay, that people are more interested in getting photos that show off the costumes quality/how good they look (aka glamor photos)

I like both, but if I had to decide I probably prefer pics that capture moments of the series. There's just sometimes this feeling when you see a well reproduced scene and you think "woah.. so thats how this could've looked if it was real".

Also, I have to say I love the topic of this thread. I'll see what I can find in my cosplay folder.

I think the argument stems from the fact is the type of story people expect. Every photo tells a story. I mean look at this picture it tells several stories even though its a static pose you can see stories of the people in the background and tells the story of a lively event. The cosplayer is also using her poses and body to tell a story, she's ready for battle as something dangerous is being seen.

See? I managed to tell multiple stories through this picture. The whole label of "tells a story" just sounds pretentious, The thread should have been asking for photos that recreate scenes as opposed as under the OPs guidelines any photo can be posted here
