Thongs are actually exceptionally common for casual wear. I wear them because I often wear slacks for work and every "invisible" underwear I've tried still leaves obvious panty lines. With thongs, the band is usually where there's a seam on the pants so it's not visible. With a skin-tight thin leotard it's not surprising that everything would be visible, but with thicker fabrics it really shouldn't be obvious.

Anon means thongs, and you're probably thinking g-strings. Thongs aren't the little mass of cords with a tiny triangle of fabric. They're wider strips of cloth or lace with a larger fabric section on the front. Usually the strips are about 2" or so and they don't have as much of a tendency to get all caught in your buttcrack. Plus they're a very soft fabric anyway, opposed to the stronger elastic cord gstrings use.

They're still not that practical for anyone who is very active or spends much of their day on their feet (which is why I don't bother with them). But they're not actually uncomfortable and they're certainly useful under tight jeans or leggings, which will cause regular underwear to bunch up in a really uncomfortable way.

Those aren't even intended for bodysuits, you wear them under bias cut and body con dresses. Those still have some ease built in due to fabric selection, even if it's fractions of an inch. Even if you use a tubular knit, it still has to be seamed in the crotch and even the lowest profile flatlock has some miniscule bulk, so a negative ease bodysuit is going to show something.

Best bet is probably to incorporate underwear into the bodysuit, anchored at the seams.
