Would this wig work well for Katara from Avatar? Season 3 outfit with her hair let down. I feel like it might be too layered and not long enough.

Also ordered a 50cm long ponytail eig and the fibers arent the highest quality - Im stubbing the tops by the clips and making really long braids. Any tips to keep the fibers smooth and straight while Im braiding them? The moment I took one tail out of the bag it snarled like crazy.

I want to make a tank top. It's somewhat fitted (or at least not loose and free flowing). Is it possible to make this without using stretchy fabric? Are there any free patterns out there for me to use?

>> No.7601913

>>7601908
Yes it's possible but you'll need a zipper so you can get in and out of it. Also if it's not stretchy and has to fit over boobs, that means darts or princess seams.

Is there a reason to not use a knit fabric for this?

How would I do the scuba suit for this character? The thing he's got underneath his shirt and shorts.

I'm thinking tights and just paint part of it blue or something for the bottom, but what about the top?

>> No.7601919

>>7601913
Darn, that sounds complicated.

Well the pants appear to be made of the same fabric, and I highly doubt the those are made of knit fabric. Also, the top appears to have 2 seam lines running down the front.

This is my first time sewing, so I'm not too familiar with fabrics, honestly.

>>7601919
Try looking at dress patterns. If you cut off the skirt, you should be able to find something with the right seamlines that calls for a zipper to do what you're looking at. But honestly you might be in over your head if you've never sewn before and don't have someone there to teach you.

There's no real way to do it, besides just shaving the little section of your eyebrow. (You don't need to shave the whole thing!)

For the actual scar, use rigid collodion. That's the best thing for creating a "realistic" looking scar. Pic related, although you don't have to go so extreme with it.

You might be able to "part" your eyebrow hairs and paint the collodion in between them, so there's a gap? Best I can suggest.

Any costume or makeup store should have it! If you don't have one local, you should be able to order it online directly from Mehron, Ben Nye, etc. It's not very expensive, and comes in a small bottle similar to nail polish.

Tldr, as it dries, it tightens up a little to give the sunken puckered look of a scar.

So what you'll want to do is start by painting on a very thin layer (and cover your eye, so it won't burn). Wait for it to dry, and if the scar isn't pronounced enough for what you want, paint a little bit more. Etcetc. Not difficult to use at all!

How would I go along making the actual skirt to get a shape like this? Besides the pettis for poofing. I feel like a circle skirt would be too a-line for what I'm going for, and most tutorials I've found just don't have that cupcake shape I want.

It's just a rectangle skirt. If you google "lolita rectangle skirt tutorial" you'll find something.

For AP poof, the hem should be 3 metres or at least 3x your waist, whichever is wider. Don't skimp, the width is what makes the shape.

Once you're made the skirt, stuff with bell/cupcake pettis.

I looked up a picture of them unfolded, and it seems you have the right idea. They're like the usual back-mounted wings, but much lower, so a harness over your butt would be the best place.
Unfortunately I'm not sure how you'd get them to fold up like a skirt (like in your pic). I guess if you angle them downward.

I found a couple tutorials on YouTube about moveable wings, but I have no experience with actually doing it.

Good luck, I hope it comes out well, the design is really lovely!

Cosplaying as Amano Yukiteru. It's a budget cosplay: the beanie is home-knit and the rest are just clothes that look similar. I have everything except the orange jacket now.

Can anyone help me find a jacket like in the attached picture, or something similar? I'm basically asking how to call that / what search terms to use, because Amazon doesn't turn up anything. When I look for "orange jacket" or "orange blazer," I mostly get women's clothes.

I could go for his other outfits, but the orange jacket is really characteristic of Yuki so that has my preference. Any other solutions would be appreciated as well. Pluspunten als je weet waar zo'n jasje in Nederland te vinden is.

Bodyline do a costume which is EXACTLY what you're after. Costume 642 http://www.bodyline.co.jp/bodyline/showProduct2.asp?id=8618&pageNumber=1&pageStop=stop_1&noSubType=N

The trouble is it doesn't come in blue so if there's no alternate colours you're out of luck. But it's probably still good if you're up for deconstructing and using it as a pattern.

To get the collar to stand up, get the heaviest interfacing you can find and stuff it in between your fabric and lining. As for patterning, you'd need a seam between the coat and the collar. Not sure if I'm stating the obvious there, but that's how I'd go about it lol.

Any tips/suggestions/opinions on choosing a good petti for a maid outfit?
I guess the first dress runs a little short so a petti is kind of necessary for it, and I really like the peekaboo look where the petti sticks out on the second. Does bodyline make good petticoats? Would it be a good idea to shell out for a classical puppets a-line petti since they're apparently really fluffy/good quality? I also kind of wanted to get into lolita in the future so it probably wouldn't be so bad to have a good petti in my closet for later.

Well, I can tell you that the CP petti will probably be too long for the dresses you want to buy (albeit the correct length for a lolita dress, probably). I don't know about Bodyline's, but for shorter pettis, you can try Legs Avenue. You won't be able to wear it with lolita (the dress will be too long/heavy), but you can use it to stack with an actual petti for added poof.

Well, a few anons told me I could go ahead and cosplay Adachi and gave me some tips on how to make it recognizable, but it's going to be my third cosplay, and I want to make sure I do it right.
I'm not sure what color his hair/suit are supposed to be. In the game they're more of a charcoal grey, the anime has more of a black or navy depending on the scene, and his figure is just plain grey. His hair changes from brown to grey to black depending on the source too.
I'm going to take the advice of the other anons and get a small/old tv and replace some bits (glass to plastic, hollow it out) and use it as a bag. That and add the gun, arcana card, caution/police tape and maybe a cabbage (I played the game and never understood the cabbage thing. He mentions it like once)
I currently have a white dress shirt, it's actually fitted to me so it'll look fine. I have a good binder so I won't look like a lazy tumblr crossplayer. I can pick up a plain red tie basically anywhere so I'm not worried about that. Should I buy a suit, or should I try my hand at making one? I've only ever made plain skirts and a vest, they didnt turn out too well. I was going to get a wig from arda (I get my loli wigs from taobao, never bought from arda), I'm sure they'll have a curly-ish wig to match the character.
Should I try to do contouring, or is Adachi babyfaced enough for it to not matter?

Sorry for all the text/questions, like I said, it's my third cosplay and I want to make it a good one.

I love this design so much but I think making it is going to kill me. My main problem is the bodysuit. Most people modify it into a vest/bikini top and skirt and the one attempt I've seen at the canon outfit has sad saggy edges.
How would I keep the inverted scallop shape of the edges and frill and attach the forearm/calf fins so they won't make anything sag?
For the different coloured sides, should I use another fabric, paint it, dye it, etc.?

His hat looks like a poofier version of a newsboy hat. For the crystal you can try finding one that size at a local craft shop or something? I don't know, large crystals are the death of me too. Then sculpt the ends out of clay or model magic.
His hair is odd... maybe you could get a pink wig and sew in green wefts at the top but there's no reasonable way to get it to 'reflect' green like his.Except paint but don't do it it'll look gross.
The shoes look a little like pic related. Find similar sandals for a base and make shoe covers.
You'll have to be more specific because I don't want to explain everything but for brightly coloured clothes check shops like H&M and Urban Planet.

>His hat looks like a poofier version of a newsboy hat.
While I agree in full, it'll be incredibly difficult to find one with that pattern.
>For the crystal you can try finding one that size at a local craft shop or something?
I was thinking of going to Michael's and buying stirofoam and pain and glitter to make it myself, it'll also make it easy to put the hook and string in to make it look like it's hovering between my hands.
>His hair is odd... maybe you could get a pink wig and sew in green wefts at the top
I actually found the wig on ebay here:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/427-No-Game-No-Life-Teto-Tet-Short-blond-pink-mix-cosplay-wig-/121359724604?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1c419a703c

My main concern is that it doesn't have that sharp cut look around the bottom like his, but that can be fixed. Other than that, it looks like the pink is actually more on the bottom, so I'm not sure how pronounced it is on the wig as a whole. It looks like it's layered under the green which makes it nearly useless unless you're looking at me directly from the front or from under. I like the color though, it's around what I was thinking when I decided to make it myself but couldn't find anything to match what I was looking for from Arda, which blows.

>The shoes look a little like pic related. Find similar sandals and make shoe covers.
What are/how do I make shoe covers and how would it work with these?

I want to cosplay Red from Transistor. The problem I'm having is the sword.

I would like it to be a translucent material, like acrylic plexiglas, but out of all the plastic suppliers I've seen:

1) that color green isn't going to happen, at least pre-fab.

2)The plexiglas comes in standard thicknesses. 1/4" is too thin based on references, but anything thicker gets prohibitively expensive. And heavy.

3) I could make it out of MDF, then give it a nice paint job and a thick gloss lacquer, but then it doesn't have the characteristic transparency. And it wouldn't have the potential to light from within.

What materials could I use, realistically? Would it be too terrible if I used an opaque solid?

Yea I saw one of those but I don't really like the way the clip-on looks on this wig. After more searching, I found one I think it's good for Saber, and from a high quality brand too. A bit expensive for a relatively short wig but it's worth it.

1) How can you tell what materials to get for the costume? Should I assume that if it has a 'skin tight' appearance then I should go with something like spandex?

2) How much time should I prepare to spend to work on the costume? I wanted to spend about half a year to get in better shape so I'm not a walking blob but that means I can't really work on a cosplay until I know my own metrics.

Do some research on what fabrics are good for fashion and such, some fibers can irritate human skin and cause sweating. For form fitting pieces it depends on what it is. Typically full body suits have a large spandex percentage like Lycra and you can also use stretch vinyl. It's completely possible to make form fitting things from non stretch but usually that's for bodices and corset type clothes which I'm assuming you don't need?

As far as time it also depends on what it is. Personally it takes me 2 weeks to a month to put a costume together but that's because I have literally nothing else on my plate. (Online school and no job). When I was working and had school it would take me a few months. Putting them together quickly is not recommended, take your time.

http://www.dharmatrading.com/dyes/jacquard-acid-dyes.html

If you want to color feathers like this, you want to use acid dye. It's the only thing that will color the spines of the feathers (RIT will dye the feather part but the spines will stay white).

Use a big pot and do it on the stove. Boil the dye according to the instructions, then turn the heat off and put the feathers in (test first, they may curl up if the water is too hot!). Don't stir them or you'll break the fibers! I used a pair of tongs to gently swish them back and forth. You'll need to experiment to see how long to leave them in (the longer, the more vivid the color) and if the dye bath gets too cool you may want to turn the heat on low for a bit to heat it back up. Take them out when you've got the color you want and swish them in a water/vinegar mix to set the dye and then lay them out to dry! You can reshape them with your fingers after they're dry. Make sure you lay them on paper towels or newspaper or they may stain the surface you leave them on.

It's pretty easy but it smells awful. They'll be a little lighter once they're dry so you may want to use a hairdryer to speed the process when testing the color. Obviously works best with white feathers.

If you know how to make a lazy bun, it's easy. If not, I'll try to describe it best I can:

Things to do first: thin out your hair ends and be ready with some sort of gel or wax and a comb. Straightening it if it's not naturally straight is good. Personally, I'd take care of my bangs last

-First bunch up hair to the back of your head as though you're going to make a ponytail

-then take a hair tie and tie your hair together in a ponytail (like, loop over, twist once, repeat), but keep an allowance for at least one more loop of the hair tie before the hair tie is too tight to loop around your hair anymore

-when you have that last loop, pull your hair through as though you're making the ponytail, but fall short and don't pull it all the way through, you should have a bun-like part and the rest of the hair sticking out as though it were a ponytail. You can adjust it here depending on how big you want the spike or the bun.

-carefully turn it so that the ponytail almost goes over your head

-take your comb and arrange the ponytail, apply hair wax and tease it. That should get that spiked look. As for the bangs, just tease and wax.

Sorry if I'm unclear!

I'm using craft foam since I'm cheap and am a little worbla-retarded. I'm thinking about sacrificing accuracy for the ease of getting in and out of it. Probabbly make the wrist lace up since the sides of the neck piece are going to have to be lace up as well.
This is for AX so I will be posting lots of progress in the future. We will hopefully have a decent sized group.

Dude yeah.
Blue Sharpie, maybe one of the light blue ones if you're scared. Spray bottle. 70% alcohol.
Break open the Sharpie and take out the little inkwell thing. Cut it length-wise so it's open. Fill the spray bottle with alcohol and drop the inkwell in there. Leave it overnight. Spray it on the wig. Make sure to get it evenly done.
When it's the color you want, let it dry, then wash the wig in cold water.

Anon, you have good taste. I have my Sonic cosplay 90% done, just need to stick it all together.
Are you using natural hair or a wig?
If natural hair, tie it into a ponytail but on the last loop don't pull it all the way through. Leave a little loop and pull the 'tail' upwards, then gel/hairspray/style it and whatnot.
If a wig, do the same as above just make sure to hide the wefts.

Post pictures when you're done? There's not enough Onepunch-Man in this world.

Unless you are built like a professional body builder I would suggest not doing this. The fact his entire chest is exposed means all the visual impact is on his body structure, without the same structure any cosplay would look shitty and lacking. It's the same reasoning why fat people shouldn't cosplay skinny characters in skimpy clothing, when body is the focus your never going to match up.
If you are completely set on doing this my best suggestion would be making a muscles suit but I still think as a girl doing a hyper masculine character is a mistake.

Well as I said he is a hyper masculine character and if you are really aiming to cosplay as him I still think you will look odd. You have to think of your face as well, makeup contouring alone wont give you that extreme level of features. I understand you like the character and the prop is cool but with your body there are so many equally cool female characters you could pull off far more successfully.
Just my advice, if you are heart set on him go for it but it seems like a waste when there are muscular female characters that you could nail perfectly.
