I really enjoy the moon and star shaped things so I wanted to draw these cookies/donuts with frosting. As well as those cake pop things.. maybe put in some pastry bags or something in there.

ideally, when mocking something up you want a minimum of 300 ppi (pixels per inch) because you will lose a lot of that detail once it goes to print. typically it's halved when it goes to print, if i remember correctly. as for repeat, i'm not sure... i think 24" is the usual size?

Seconding this so hard. It doesn't have to be orange all over (that'd be so hard to match) but pumpkins are so cute.

I'm not crazy about JetJ-esque painting vomit dresses, but I think with the right design aesthetic someone could put together a badass gothic dress with El Greco's Black Paintings. I think it'd make a nice border piece with maybe a black overlay. I dunno though. Painting dresses aren't really in favor anymore.

The one thing I hate about indie brands is that they make their prints so very plain. Brands are usually under a color limit for most prints, but they know how to shade/detail their drawings so that it looks better.

I've been working on a Paganish moon print for a while now, I might have to collab with a fellow lolita(who is better at art) who can help me finish it. My line art skills are subpar at best and my best ended up still looking off. I wanted to make it in silver, Navy, Purple, and then maybe an emerald. When I save up some money I'll ask to commision her on it and if everything turns out alright I'll see about if I make it into a series that we can work together(depends on what my funds are and if I can make patterns for the different styles and a good place to print the fabric)? All of my ideas are for a more classic aesthetic.

I think a tiger print inspired by the William Blake poem and its image would be neat. Black with kind of watercolor details or saturated to where the orange is burning and almost red. Too bad the tiger in the image is derpy.

I like the idea of a renaissance unicorn print instead of the sweet look.

From the thumbnail I thought this was going to be Madoka and Homura, and now I'm thinking about making Madoka's dress into a proper lolita one. It isn't too far off, really.

The skirt would need to be longer and maybe brought up to the natural waist. I've seen drop waisted lolita dresses, but I honestly prefer them at-waist.
Perhaps swapping out the red for a dark pink and the yellow for white would be less anime. Maybe even making the base pink a little more pastel. I'd want to bring up the neckline for my own comfort level with modesty, but it isn't that bad for an OP.
The petals are really cute. I kind of want to make a Madoka dress just for going around.

yes, how shocking. imagine someone being an anime fan on a *anime cosplay* image board. gosh. that doesn't seem reasonable at all. it ~must~ be the summer cancer.

P.S. it's not just a flower motif, it's a crest. the stylization is the entire point. your argument is basically at this point "any dress with a rose on it is a utena collab" whereas the rose crest refers to a very specific & probably copyrighted design which appears frequently on officially licensed products.
clearly you've never even seen the show, so why are you so adamantly defending your shit opinions? n01curr if you think it's crap, just don't associate it with something it's not.

>some skills

I like how this is the most important part but it comes practically last.

here's what you need:
start with a huge reference folder and a copy of adobe illustrator & photoshop.
develop a good grasp of design principles. color theory cannot be stressed enough. you'll want a few simple tileable patterns/frames or the know-how to make your own. on that note, if you're not already a master-level illustrator, you'll want to start practicing--you can use AI's live-trace trick to grab some images off the internet, but be prepared for backlash if you try this. the only thing that's sort of tricky is lining up edges if you have a continuous border print going on.

>> No.7608360

>>7608331
I love you anon! Fabric on Demand's process already looks better than spoonflower's large inkjet printer method.
"» What is the process for printing on fabric?
Our printing process varies by fabric. Polyester fabrics require a design to be imaged on a special paper and then transferred into the fabric using a very hot press. It's kind of like an iron... but H-U-G-E and really hot. This is a process known as dye sublimation. Other fabrics are printed using reactive dyes inks that are printed directly onto a pre-treated fabric and then steamed after the printing process."

Don't hear shit about spoonflower heat setting anything.

Slightly more pricey than spoonflower but I though spoonflower was pricey to begin with so I'm going to bite the bullet with these things.

Dig around on websites (deviant art, pixiv etc) . Take a look at people who do lolita art, if they draw a lot of original designs on their drawings chances are they could do some higher quality prints for you.

Another thing to look for are people who can use illustrator or work in higher resolution in general. They are already comfortable with the program and working with the program so they can adapt it for print making. the lolita aesthetic is pretty easy to adapt to, but learning the skills to make a good high resolution image isn't.

Check if they are already taking/doing commissions because they are probably looking to be hired to do work.

And most importantly, give THEM proof that you are a serious investor. If you sew or have previously contracted people for work, show them that. I've had a couple times where people contacted me for a similar situation (indie brands) but then had it fall through because they couldn't get their shit together. Granted I probably should have asked for half or something up front, but all in all it was a lot of time wasted.

>> No.7611635

You'd also need to ensure they understand how to set up the file for printing as well. It's not as simple as just drawing a pretty picture, you and the artist need to understand the printing process. It could be extremely expensive unless you go through spoonflower, but you'll forgo quality ink and fabric.

What dimensions do you do your prints with?

Also, does anyone know how to make sure the patterns line up? Like, I'm trying to think of it. If I have a 29 in waist, and I go about the general rule of making the poof 2x as large as my waist, I'm going to be making a rectangle of 48 in.

So here's where I'm lost.. Do I print it so that it will be divisible by my waist measurements? or adjust the poof for my print?
ei: make the print 12 in long, or if my waist is 30 in and I need a 60 in square, a print that's 10 in?

Or do I just make a print at whatever the fuck I want.. say 15 in? And make the rectangle 45 in instead of 48, or 60, even?

I'm so lost. I really want to make my own border print skirt.
