I had a pretty nice time, I only wish I could've met or talked to more people, especially because most people I've met I didn't really get to see or talk to, and some of my friends were busy. I did end up making a new friend and also met a friend in person for the first time so that was really cool. I also ended up going to panels and discussing things with people, and I went to the Sheraton a few times for gaming which was fun. Overall a pretty great weekend, but I am really exhausted now. Definitely glad I went though, it was worth it.

Had such a great time! Mostly spent the weekend with friends and checked out the masquerade, artist alley, and some gaming.
I cosplayed as Jonathan from SMTIV (first cosplay, made it myself!), and went to the Atlus photoshoot. Can't believe how nice everyone is compared to the people at FanExpo. Loved it!

Does anyone have pictures of my mini moon cosplay?
Sorry for the self-post.

I had a great time. Saturday started out badly because one of the bows on my shoes fell off and I got really upset (and I was going to wear those shoes for the lolita fashion show Sunday). Found it on the floor 10 hours later, was an incredible stroke of luck.
Did my first professional photoshoot. Was an interesting experience.

Sunday was nice too, went to the fashion show, felt k-y as fuck.
Then went to tea party and made some friends, was really happy about it (when I first walked into the tea party i was incredibly nervous because I thought I would be there the whole time by myself)

Whoever predicted Attack on Titan was gonna overtake Homestuck was right. The SNK photoshoot was huge and I saw only a handful of Homestucks wandering around. However, they did have some get together on Saturday.

Also attended some Evangelion discussion panel that was full of super Eva nerds including a hot Asuka who even outnerded them. Was interesting and amusing.

Yep, I called it.

Saturday's HS shoot was big, but definitely MUCH less than last year.. I haven't actually seen any of the AoT shoots but pretty much everywhere I looked there was at least one person wearing the jacket and tons and tons of cosplayers, and I saw some Titan cosplays too.

I had a room at the IP and I can confirm that they were taking reservations, they had a sign and special teller and everything.

Otherwise, the room was small, had no refrigerator, and security was VERY tight, but it was convenient, and the lack of AC didn't bother me at all, barely even noticed and even woke up in the night cold.

Yep pretty there was 2 this year. One was a super awkward proposal before the masquerade started; where one of the staff members proposed to his GF.

The second was during one of the
Borderlands skits (w/ a Shredder skulking around in the background). The shredder ended up proposing to one of the Borderlands cosplayers.

Thanks man, I was in a group photoshoot for a long time so didn't have a chance to walk around too much, although when I did, my photo was taken a lot.

The photoshoot was huge. Half the people left mid way through cause it was over. I was lucky enough to get enough people for what I wanted though, but AoT this year was bigger than SAO last year, and god damn you couldn't go 5 minutes without seeing a Kirito last year.

Whenever one of the local cons end, I come right here for the threads to get more reactions and images.

My girlfriend just got back from going to Anime North with her sister (iffy family stuff prevented me from going sadly), but we both hit up Toracon and Roc-Con, in the Rochester NY area. From what she's said about Anime North though, it blows all that shit out of the water. I'm definitely going next year, even if I have to save up months in advance.

Yes it's pretty standard for cons. I wish this more for meets, since I feel like cons are more low pressure and for goofing off and wearing stupid shit. But nothing makes me facepalm harder than seeing some newbie come to a meet in 3/4 offbrand and one sad handmade skirt to "fit in." I'd rather they just wear nice normal stuff.

I haven't experienced many con crossing guards or having to line up (is this a Canadian thing?), but I found his whistle blowing really unclear. I think the lining up is the general experience of him organizing lines as they come in multiple con settings. One I recall quite well was a hugely open room before the dealer's room at CN Anime 2005. He was pre-maturely lining up all the people in tight coils pretty much in preparation for the fact that the room would probably get full pretty fast, though it was admittedly a hugely empty room.

That's my only experience with the dude. He was sweating profusely and yelling all the while.

Anyone know anything about their instrument/music policy?

When I attended for a few years in a row back in 2006-2008 I brought along an electric guitar and a battery powered amp and played video game music. The staff didn't seem too thrilled about it but let me play because people were taking pictures + I was playing video game/anime theme songs for amusement, even got interviewed by Space television (RIP)

Just wondering that, once I set things into motion to start attending again next year, that I'll be able to do my John Lennon/Mongolian Chop Squad cosplay and music without any hassle from the staff.

I don't cosplay anymore because of the stress involved, I don't try to schedule for panels because of the stress involved, I've done literally everything I can to make the weekend a care-free experience and it's still awful.

I guess figuring out that a large chunk of con goers are faggots and thus it's harder to meet anyone who isn't a fag, and your definition of faggets becomes more encompassing as your age increases. I also find that actually having those "stressful" plans will make a con more fun than just trying to relax and enjoy it, but that's my personal experience.

Anyways, here's my experience

Pros:
>Got lots of video footage to edit later
>Sold in the Nominoichi, made a good profit
>Found some last Yu-Gi-Oh cards to complete my deck
>Dueled a couple of people, and 2/3 of them just gave me Yu-Gi-Oh cards, totalling about $10 worth, which was pretty dope. Didn't know people were so nice
>Free wifi now at the IP, aw yiss
>Didn't get a sunburn
>Finished my bf's cosplay in time, and saw it completely put on for the first time at the con. Turned out better than I expected and a lot of grills ask him for photos

Cons:

>Group cosplay on Saturday fell through, couldn't meet with the other three members

Does anybody have a picture from the KlK photoshoot of the groupshot where everyone did the Mako pose? I was only in two photoshoot pictures because I felt awkward being the lonely kamui and I told the nice Satsuki running the shoot that I didn't want to go in alone. I found the one taken near the end with me and the harem of Ryuuko's (which was mostly dudes by that point) but I'm looking for that one.

I found a good professional picture of my Big Boss costume too. Dressing up is fun.

Sorry you couldn't come in to take photos. We tend to stick to the rules we make pretty closely, or else things just turn into a mess. There's three of us who are in charge, and we don't always have the chance to communicate to each other if we make an exception, so we just avoid it altogether.

Though, I do think we can be clearer in saying that media people need to get permission ahead of time. We basically just need to know if media is coming so that we can warn our attendees at the start, so that we don't get any complaints about it or anything.

I was at the Eva panel too, the only thing I didn't like about the panel is lack of discussion on Biblical stories relating to the series. I'm convinced at least one person who worked on the series and had serious input in it must have either been raised by one of the 0.5% Catholics in Japan or at least studied the Bible serious enough to actually know all the stories and not just some superficial understanding like most of Japan. Yeah, the sign definitely could've been better. I made it in about 10 minutes back when Rebellion was in theatres here, and last-minute decided to bring it this weekend. If I had thought about it earlier I definitely would have remade it.

How was my con? It was pretty great this year aside from a few things:

High points:
>I met a lot of cool people
>For the most part everyone I talked to was pretty cool.
>Walking around and running into other Kill La Kill cosplayers and snowballing into one group.
>Saw some friends for the first time in person this year
>Never caught the con plague
>Got a shit load of pictures taken and a lot of complements on cosplay
>More social than any other con I've been to

Low points:

>Had cosplay issues practically right out of the gate.
>The lights in my legs broke within 2 hours of the con starting and I didn't have the proper means to fit it at the con.

>I didn't know what poses to strike for pictures so I don't think many of them turned out well
>I spilled my spaghetti once, which I talked about in the old thread, still kicking myself over it.

Not right away, when you're lined up for a panel 30minutes before it starts, a conversation that may have started off about anime sometimes drifts into other things. The first 15 minutes were fine, but then it went into school and student life which somehow quickly turned into politics. Being very conservative at an anime con can quite challenging not to reveal some of my opinions. Got to keep it light-hearted at least until you know each other, that's something I need to work on. I personally don't care if I have same politically views as a women I'm interested in and even enjoy healthy debate...but I don't think most people like having their beliefs confronted.

If it's anime related then you'll probably get it passed. From what I understand there are quotas to fill, but they mostly limit things like off-topic (non-anime) panels or series that get a lot of different panels like Gundam.

I always feel like I'm not social enough at AN or I just have really bad luck. I get horribly jealous of people who come home with a shitload of new friends; I try to talk to a lot of people but it either doesn't go past small talk, they aren't interested in conversation, or they already have a group of friends that aren't interested in strangers. If I'm lucky and exchange social media, they forget who I am by the time next year comes around.

It's only AN too. I've made plenty of close friends through other cons and it just makes me feel bored of it.

I don't bond with screaming teenagers and autistic 40-year-olds. Even the usual crowd of friends I go with agreed and I'm not sure if we'll go for the whole weekend again like we've been doing for the past few years.
I've been feeling pretty bummed about it, feels like a chapter is ending in my life or something.

Any one in the Anime North Facebook group should appreciate this, though I use the term loosely... I shared an elevator ride with Brandon, yes THAT Brandon, from the Facebook group the one that posts retarded irrelevant shit non stop. I recognized him immediately. Seeing him in person was a whole new experience, he was a lot shorter and smaller than I thought he would be and he had the voice of a nine year old, he reminded me of this kid:

I think the reason Anime North lacks some of the legitimacy/grandeur of other big name conventions is due to being a non-profit event, where they donate the proceeds to sick kids. In order to move on and grow as a whole, they'll have to start charging higher ticket prices and start getting big name guests.
