Shamelessly selfposting because this is my first cosplay in years and I made it in like 2 days. I wore it at Wondercon. Can't wait til the Valyrian Steel sheath comes out, because mine was balls and made things heavy, unbalanced, and pull at everything. Also because it's been so long since I've cosplayed, I'm not even sure I've selfposted any cosplay on here.

I was really proud of it because it's real leather and the cape is wool and I pulled it off for less than $200 by haggling and repurposing leather. I learned a lot though, especially about where I need to fix things (get the collar to stand up, find a wool rug to tear apart for cape, curling iron is a must, don't wear it when it's not winter, etc).

But yeah, I loved wearing it so I'm mega stoked for cosplaying again at Fanime... just not gonna wear this, I would probably die.

Eh, I've been in the same fandoms as her for a while. She was a huge ass bitch in the Doctor Who fandom, talking down to girls who cosplayed the same person as her (and usually better) while talking about how she was the best. Constantly shoving her screen accurate items in your face, even if you're wearing them, too.

She's better with the Game of Thrones fandom, I noticed. I messaged her about something with her Blackwater progress photos not realizing it was her and she was surprisingly nice about it.

And now I laugh because karma caught up with her and she gained a shit ton of weight. So much for being ~~perfect~~

tl;dr, she's been really snotty in her other fandoms making her not well liked.

She's grown up. People do that. I used to think she was a huge snob too when I was in the DW fandom, but I think it was more that she didn't know how to relate to other people, and we have become friendly acquaintances. But I don't think she's a terrible person or anything like that, and she is a really talented seamstress. She sews incredibly fast, too. I don't blame people for holding their first impressions of her against her, but you know, she really never has claimed she looks anything like Sansa, she just really loves her character. And she's currently losing weight, so it's not like she's happy with her size either.

Person you've quoted here. She's been really rude to my friends, so she's left a bad taste in my mouth. Though if she has grown up, feel a bit bad for her. I know the DW fandom still hates her. Heard she was pretty rude at Dragon*Con last year as well, though. Made some snarky remarks to my friend who was cosplaying Margaery.

That being said, I don't find her that talented, either. She's alright. Sure, she may sew fast but I think she lost a bit of the details.

Like I said, I don't hold anything against anyone who still doesn't like her, she was rude. Just because a person has changed doesn't mean you have to forgive them. >> No.7570177

I've ran into her at a couple cons and never heard her insult a cosplayer once. Friended her on Facebook and yeah, she is really oddly obsessed with the exact brand, color and style of what characters are wearing (which I'm sure no one notices but her) but that's a level of dedication I've only ever seen her require from herself. I agree that she should have worn makeup in the wedding dress, but Sansa obviously wasn't wearing any with her pink dress. And yeah, her face/body is kinda soft but barely what I'd call "large". Her body as a definition of "fat" is absolutely ridiculous.

Well that's kind of what makes someone a professional... Especially when costumes are going to be on tour in a museum and I am hoping they are making close to six figures if not over that? I guess it's just not something I would expect from a master craftsman. Though I am guessing that the embroiderer was a different person than the actual costumer. Considering the amount of detail in the embroidery (which is all hand sewn) I wouldn't expect that they would cut corners on matching patterns across a seam after putting that many hours into the embroidery. And yeah, even such a small difference is really noticeable when its a straight line pattern across the three panels. Obviously the work is fantastic but that's just something my eye kind of fastened on. I don't think that it's a good excuse to say that they had a lot of projects, that's kind of their professional career, not a hobby where they are hot gluing gems onto a bodice three hours before a con, lol.

You're not alone in that. Honestly, it made me wonder if maybe it was even intentional, since Sansa isn't considered "worthy" of a Lannister except for her inheritance, even a defective Lannister, and they wouldn't want to spend money on the *best* clothes for her, just almost the best.

Well, they do at least put some kind of thought into the garments. Like with the Purple Wedding- Joffery's crown was symbolic of Margaery slowly wrapping her fingers around him, for example.

I don't mind that she's fat- most of /cgl/ is- I mind that she's fucking hideous and doesn't look anything like Sansa. Sansa Stark is, for all intents and purposes, vain, shallow, and conceited. If she chooses a character who cares about the vainer things in life (at least for a while) then she herself needs to take pride in her appearance when cosplaying that character and work with some makeup.

Sansa Stark is supposed to be a natural beauty with thick red locks and Tully blue eyes. Pic related looks like she rolled out of bed and threw on her wig and dress- she could do a lot better with makeup, but in all reality she's never going to be a great fit for Sansa because her face isn't sharp enough and she's fat. But those are just nitpicks.

I probably won't get much of an answer, but does anyone have any examples of really, really good and complicated outfits?
Most of the stuff I see is halfassed, like pic related. I don't expect much, given that kind of stuff requires skill and money, but maybe there's at least one diamond in the rough?

Indeed. And Margaery's gown was intended to be a symbolic "don't touch me". The bodice was covered in sharp "thorn" beads between the roses, as if to keep Joffrey's hands off of her entirely.

Same for all of the other gowns though, too. You don't see it in the show because of lighting and movement, but almost every garment has embroidery pertaining to the wearer's house and moods. So Cersei's always covered in lions (because she hated Robert so much, she won't wear his any more), while Catelyn's dresses had fish AND direwolves.

I wish there was more information about the full garments, because this site belongs to the embroiderer and mostly talks about that.

I feel like it's intentional (for instance, it doesn't line up on either side, rather than just one) but more in symbolism than something like the Lannisters wouldn't have given as much consideration into a piece of crap like Sansa. For me, it seems more likely that the detachment represents how she'll never be a perfect Lannister, just like how the red represents the Lannister's creeping influence on her. The use of symbolism more than realism seems more common in the garments (from what I've read on the designer's blog) so I feel this would be the case - that the costume design is meta design. I think it also looks good from an aesthetic perspective because it emphasises a layering effect.

Met her at a con. Thought she was cool. Got her tumblr name. She still seems cool. I'm also the type to care more about costume construction than what someone looks like.

Pictures make her look short though. She's so tall in person.

So tell me CGL, how do you feel about GoT cosplay of of recognized characters but from the book? .

>> No.7572992

well the only ones that would really work well would be like, young Robert in his armor with hammer, any of the original King's Guard or Rhaegar (to go along with young Robert, this would work well)

Oh and a Daario would be really recognizable as the book character, OR STRONG BELWAS, YEAAAAAAAAH

But other characters would be really hard to pull off without having to say 'oh I'm so and so'

I'd like to see an Arthur Dayne.

There is a Tywin Lannister (the one in OPs picture actually) who I always see photos of that wears a costume and Hand pin similar to Charles Dance's in the show, but has the bald head and golden sideburns Tywin has in the book, and I think that's brilliant.
I do think it's hard to pull off though.

She just doesn't suit a character who's like 15 years old. She's tall and his a potato chin. (Not necessarily bad things, just not suited to tis character or that hairdo.)

I know she's trying to stay as true to the character as possible, but with a little make up and a bit of altering to the wig to fit her face shape (and actually arching all the way across the back, not just the top) it would make her look better.

Also, she needs some sort of breast boost fast. That would make her look younger

Just a quick shoop of what I mean. I also pulled her shoulders a bit up and back because he posture seems kinda slumped.

I mean, she doesn't look exactly like the character, so she can sacrifice a little accuracy to make herself look good.

you look a little chunky so i think melisandre would work well with your skin tone, age, and face shape, and if you are chunky you can pull off a curvy figure with shapeware in her outfits easily

>>7581745
I am actually fairly skinny but on the taller side with a slightly wider frame and hourglass figure. I guess the roundness of my face makes me look a tad bit chunky on pictures like these, though.
Definitely considering either Melisandre Or Shae now but I'm not sure am I petite enough for Shae

>> No.7581767

>>7581758
no it was how thick your neck looks and the softness of your shoulder leading to your bicep. I think Melisandre is a good choice. You have a really pretty mature face for her. Shae has like, an exotic, alien like face and yes, she's tiny.
