I think a lot of stuff Bandai makes in general is overpriced.

I'm a big fan of Pretty cure and even their batons/wands go for well over $40 for a newly released one (lets not even talk about the older ones). Its a piece of plastic that lights up and make sounds. Don't think it justifies the price. But I guess that's how they make money.

I don't know, I feel like the Sailor Senshi are one of the very few cosplays where shiny fabric can be good. Granted, it depends on the quality of the fabric, and the white bodice part should not be satin- it's very unforgiving.

Here's the wig on the wig head. I fucked up during stubbing so the ponytail isn't going to sit as high as I'd like it to be, but at least its high enough that the hair bobbles are going to show. It really is, and almost always has been. Some of the original Sailor Moon dolls were so pitiful, especially compared to the Takara dolls of the same era. Bandai's girly lines survive entirely off licensing.

I picked up all of these in Japan for about $10AUD all together, after I spent $8 winning Sailor Moon from a UFO machine I found a shop selling all the prizes inside. I know it's a long shot but I'm making CereCere and I'd love to be in a group. I'm west coast, 5'7" (too tall for most SM groups, I know) smallish boobs and ~125-130lbs. I forever feel left out of SM groups because I'm so tall compared to the characters height and I usually cosplay Usagi, who's supposed to be the shortest of the bunch...
I also dream of getting an Animamates groups together, I think they're a little more forgiving body type wise. Iron Mouse has to be the shortest by far and that's about it.

Is it just me or is sailor moon's arm bending unnaturally? I was very impressed with the sculpt for mercury but damn this just looks bad. Secretly hoping they come out with a gorgeous princess serenity to make up for it.

People used to use that skating pattern a lot. I would just pay close attention to the fit when you're making it because I've seen some come out saggy, too tight or the waist V not sharp enough. My cheatmode is just buying a dance leotard and attaching the sailor fuku features to it. It's actually comparable if not cheaper than sewing the damn thing yourself.

I use the Green Pepper pattern for mine and commissions, and it's almost perfect. You only need to make a few modifications (and use your own skirt pattern if you want a pleated skirt) and I've never had problems with the fit. SparklePipsi's tutorial is actually pretty useful, too.

I've always been bothered by the fact that Nehellenia only ever had one dress, even as a kid really, considering the level of vanity she exhibits in the anime. Would it be recognisable to do a fancier/'inspired by' version of her dress with hand embroidery and beading? Or just wanky and dumb? I like this design, but I think it defies physics even more than her real dress. It's practically glued to her boobs.

What I had in mind for the basic shape is pic related, plus a modified version of her cape. Embroidery on the edging of the overdress, sleeves, and bust (gold on ivory for overdress, black and gold on the black portions). I'm not sure how to make long hair work with a ruff, though. So that will probably need to change.

I'm so jealous of this girl's cosplay. Only thing I can find wrong with it is that I can see her hair under the wig; otherwise, it's perfect.

I'm hoping to eventually do them all, because she is one of my absolute favorite Sailor Moon characters; however, I'd probably do her anime version of that outfit, as I'd like my hips covered a little. My top is a little more accurate though, I just need to remake the little half sun things, fix the pants, and the wig. It would be one thing if she would accept criticism and admit that she makes a lot of mistakes because she's learning, or because she misunderstood something, but she acts like she's a professional translator. If you've ever watched one of the SM event livestreams and followed her twitter, it's a little more obvious that she's not nearly qualified enough to be translating entire programs/shows with accuracy.

I used the same pattern for the leotard, but extended the back seam to make it larger. I lined it with polar fleece to give it body, but I think neoprene would also work really well, depending on the kind of lycra blend used for the main body.

I like how they always say they're going to translate a livestream, but every single time they either have technical issues' or they translate really simple things like "she's talking about the new manga right now" and then blame the lack of detailed translation on not being able to type fast enough or, again, technical issues.

Pretty much. If she was as talented as she boasts, she could give tweets that aren't something anyone with a vague ear for Japanese ('oh, she said manga!' 'oh, she said shoujo!') could throw out.

I wish someone with good standing in the fandom would call her ass out once and for all--hell, even if they didn't want to drag up all her other drama, just comparing her translations with translations by people who have actual experience and the original Japanese language would be ace.

Miss Dream a shit. She knew there was no way she could back up those kinds of translation errors, they're simple sentences that she fucked up entirely, so of course she defaults to insulting instead. My one and only interaction with her came after I followed the Miss Dream Twitter and she followed me back on her personal, then proceeded to make commentary on how I should break up with my boyfriend because I was venting about an issue we were having. What do you guys think about tan/brown skinned sailor moon? I think my skin is more suited for mars (second favorite scout) but Sailor Moon was my favorite as a kid. I guess I just don't want to look dumb in a blonde wig/blue eyes.

I wish people cosplayed the sailor moon monsters more. There is so many but so few cosplays of them.

It's possible to still look ok. It'll help if you even out your skin as much as possible with makeup, and possibly lighten your eyebrows (and definitely shape them). Mars isn't tan skinned at all -- did you mean that her color scheme was the most likely to compliment your skin?

I have the set! I duct tapped pin backs to them so they're wearable without damaging the compacts. The tape is pretty sturdy.

Pic is bf wearing the chibimoon compact. I wore the matching crisis compact, but it didn't sit as well as his does on the bowtie, so I just cropped myself out.

Nostalgia is probably the highest factor. I think the Heart/S compact looks best/least child toy like (aside from it actually being one) because it's all solid colors and the "crown" at the top covers the hinge. Star comes in second, but the hinge and closure ruin that. Crisis probably looks the most kiddie because of the sparkle stuff. Classic has solid colored faceted details that just look bad in general and the fact that it says "Sailor Moon" on the outer rim is just silly.
